I think another problem is are we mapping the buildings that are there or using a generated approximation, which is more useful? I sometimes wonder when I see buildings that aren't quite square practically speaking does it really matter? We have the rough size and position. Square ones do look prettier though oh if only we could just nudge the new mappers into the JOSM building_tool plugin. Hi Dan, Thanks for pointing out the issues about the built up areas in Nepal. We did have troubles while trying to digitize with the newer OSM users. Consistency is one of the harder things to achieve with newer volunteers, specifically if we can't enforce any methods or rules by limiting how the buildings should be digitized. I was wondering about the ArcGIS built-up area tool (delineate built up area tool). We do need the input building (in_building) data. We can remind the volunteers to be consistent next time we have a mapathon or remind them with these emails, but we do need that initial input data even though the quality might be compromised. Anyone with a suggestion to a standard methodology?? I should be able to help with some of the work on the built up area delineation.
