Caroline, You do a good job outlining the problem. Even with bandwidth, the Browse activity is just not that great (at least on the XOs) for streaming video. I am imagining some combination of teachers providing scaffolding or a preview of some video(s), and then the students watching them from home (or outside of the classroom) and then reflecting/having classroom discussions. Then we can either put his videos on OLPC XS school servers, or we can write Etoys or other versions of what he does. I have an appointment with the Bartholomew County schools people in Indiana on March 4 to discuss replacing textbooks with free electronic learning materials, and this will be part of the discussion. > I'm traveling > to the Bay Area next month. Re: [IAEP] Math on Web
Caroline, Something else that may be worth considering is the development of an activity like Info Slicer, where teachers can provide annotations for the videos, and/or prompts for notes or reflections. Notice the comment by students at around 3:26s - "The teachers are good but ... it lets us learn at our own pace ... pause, rewind ...". I heard this sentiment echoed by many students. I believe this ability to pace one's learning along with the 10min capsule structure may help us solve the scalability problem in education.
