How to manage multiple LPARs without RSCS
Does anyone have a method they use to manage multiple z/VM LPARs from a single point without the benefit of RSCS for NJE connections? We have always had RSCS and used PROP or VM:Operator with a single logical operator being able to interact with groups or all of the LPARs. There is some question whether will want to keep licensing RSCS. Rick

If you have VM:Operator, version 3.0 added the RVS feature that supports this using TCPIP. Re: CICS and z/VM
Thanks all for the information. I've been installing CICS and writing Assembler code for CICS transactions since the '70's on DOS OS's and other MVS releases, but I had never heard of a CICS to run on VM. Hearst Corp. had a number of 360 machines of various sizes and started to use CICS/DOS in the '70's and I loved it. To bad I missed that boat, I would have loved to have a crack at CICS/VM. Live and learn, I would like to be around 20,15, 50 years from now to see where z/VM and CICS is at. BTW, loved macro level CICS programming. --- On Wed, 6/23/10, Marcy Cortes marcy.d.cor...@wellsfargo.com wrote: From: Marcy Cortes marcy.d.cor...@wellsfargo.com Subject: Re: CICS and z/VM To: IBMVM@LISTSERV.UARK.EDU Date: Wednesday, June 23, 2010, 10:50 PM Too cool for real life apparently. Rick, If you're moving files with SENDFILE, have you implemented UFTD? You can then issue SENDFILE MY FILE A TO user...@vm1.myco.com (UFTSYNC NETDATA I can't say this will help with VM:Operator, but it looks like JR pointed out a possible solution in another reply. RSCS in the base VM
We are running z/VM Version 4.3. What functionality of RSCS was included in the base at that point? Where can I go to find this? That would have been RSCS 3.2. You can find more details of what is available as part of the 'base', i.e. does not require a license, at url: www.vm.ibm.com/related/rscs Best Regards, Les Geer IBM z/VM and Linux Development

You can google cics/vm and learn a little bit more. http://www-01.ibm.com/software/htp/cics/35/80s/ IBM killed it before it could gain acceptance.
