[ilugd] HowTo: access SFTP only ( exclude ssh shell )

2008-10-09 Thread tuxdna
Hi,

I had been wondering if anyone has experience with setting up a user account
for only sftp/scp access. The user is not allowed to obtain shell access
through ssh.

Infact the user should be allowed file transfer facilities only.

I found two solutions:

1. configure a user for login inside a chroot jail ( allowing ssh access )
-- the user can have shell access but inside chroot jail only

2. use rsssh ( http://www.pizzashack.org/rssh/ ) for scp/sftp only access
-- there might be some security issues as noted on the website

Can somebody through some words of wisdom for the purpose and which of the
above options should I choose?

Maybe there is some other way I can go.

Thanks in advance.

It appears that you have exhausted the response pool of the list. If so,
while you are typing out all the points raised by you, would it also be
possible for you to visit
http://www.redhat.com/legal/legal_statement.html (unless you have
already done so) along with
http://www.redhat.com/about/companyprofile/trademark/ and
http://www.redhat.com/legal/legal_statement.html#claim

http://www.redhat.com/about/contact/ would provide you more information.

It is always a good idea to attempt to contact the vendor, as opposed to
a general list about questions on a vendor's product.

[ilugd] List of FOSS for 2020 AD

2008-10-09 Thread Abhishek Choudhary
I have tried to put together a list of areas in which FOSS products
should be available "widely" by 2020AD. The idea is to host the list at
a public site, with links on each area, leading to a sublist. There can
be two activities that this list can be used for:
1. Identifying exiting FOSS that fulfill the needs
2. Start new FOSS projects ( :) Ab India bolega)

I wonder if this so-called M S Yatnatti is actually a sophisticated perl script
that gathers together randoms strings that are tenously linked to each other
and mashes them together to form an incoherent, dribbling, gibbering whole.

I tried to follow the logic of MSY's last mail. But after raising
several warnings my brain blew a fuse and refused to continue to
parse it.

PS: Respect is what you get if you listen and respond logically. You simply
aren't doing that.

[ilugd] Reminder: G.I.S.S. multimedia workshop at Sarai, Sat., 11 Oct., 11am

2008-10-09 Thread Gora Mohanty
Hi,
Just to remind people, there will be a multimedia
workshop at Sarai, CSDS, this Sat., the 11 of Oct.,
starting from 11am. This event will be more in the
nature of an informal discussion group, rather than
a formal workshop. I have updated the page at
,
and directions to the venue
are also available there.

Some interesting technology will also be on display,
such as computer vision. The examples that Yves showed
me looked pretty neat. Please see the Wiki page for
details.

Regards,
Gora

I think the S5 will meet your needs.
Make slides in HTML & host slides
on your webbrowser.

I have used it a few times. My preferance still lies with using soffice
or LaTeX (to get pdf slides)
