PS: Dreaming of the day that I can DX from home over the internet connected to the Queen Charlottes! If you have a decent internet connection there that can be assigned a static IP address, I can tell you how. I set my SDR-14 on a computer at a place on the south coast of Massachusetts and was able to run it using PC Anywhere. There are converter boxes that can get audio from Point A to Point B at a low (20ms or so) delay time. If you can deal with a long delay, you can also use freeware Windows Media Encoder. Having a static IP address and decent internet speed is key. If that site will support either DSL or a cable modem connection, it can work. As a bonus, you can also use that connection to monitor the house. Dennis, I have to agree that 1413 is the best TA I probably have heard in signal since about 1980 when the dial was jumping with them. Germany on many frequencies were excellent. I even listened to Algeria 891 on the car radio quite good too. These are rare times on the West Coast. Re: [IRCA] 1413
I have been thinking Moldova since you guys first mentioned this. I had no doubt Walt could help with lang. Here in IL I am sick and tired from travelling, but will take tomorrow off and head to my TA DX paradise in WI by Lake Mich. I get plenty of TA's here in IL, but will wait for tomorrow and light and some rest to dig my BOG's ends out of a foot of frozen snow. In WI...I can't even dare to drive to 4 wheel drive to where I park for TA DX as is a bit low and where the trees stop the lake effect snow..ie likely half a meter there. However, I can walk to the dog house which has power and only costs me 30 feet less on TA BOG's to run right into that shack and had me 1kW 864 Ireland for a wee bit last time I was there. Unfortunately anytime I plug a rx into mains at my WI place there's added noise and sometimes it is bad on certain freqs. How do I cure this (noting power is brought underground for 1000 ft to the house etc). Also, if I ran a Perseus of a power supply plugged in would that be noisy ? 73 KAZ - Original Message - From: Patrick Martin mwd...@webtv.net To: Mailing list for the International Radio Club ofAmerica irca@hard-core-dx.com Sent: Thursday, January 22, 2009 10:13 PM Subject: Re: [IRCA] 1413 Chuck, Walt just IDed it as Radio PMR in Russian, Moldova I guess with a kind of a Domestic type service. 73, Patrick Patrick Martin KGED QSL Manager ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com No virus found in this incoming message. Re: [IRCA] 1413
KAZ, Where is the noise from? Any idea? If it was powerlines, you could contact the local electric company. Pacific Power is good at fixing issues here. Can you run the equipt off batteries? I have a deep cycle battery I use when the power is out here, but my over all noise level is not too bad, except on LW to a certain amount. How is the noise level there without connecting to the mains? I remember Richard Wood telling me that the noise where he lived was terrible on the Big Island, so he ran everything off batteries and his noise level was pretty much nil then. 73, Patrick Patrick Martin KGED QSL Manager ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
