[IRCA] KWFM 1330 Tucson back on
"Star 1330" as before with their quasi-1980's hits programming. I've been listening for an hour and still haven't heard anything I recognized. An awful playlist. It was only a matter of time before they returned, but I was hoping for an upgrade to something better like Techno Rap or All P.J. Proby All Of The Time. Bob Coomler Tucson, AZ Where are the 1330 studios now? About 50 years ago when I was a kid growing up in the Flowing Wells area of Tucson, 1330 was KMOP Country Western. And if I remember right, the studio and the transmitter was located on the south side of Grant, just east of what is now I-10. Not far from that place that has all the cattle painted on the concrete block wall around it, but across the screet. KWFM was Tucsons first "Undergound FM" station. They went on the air early 1970, semi patterned after San Francisco's KMPX, KSAN and later KFAT. I miss KFAT a lot. Steve, the KWFM office (if they have a studio, it is probably a microphone and a box in a closet) is at St. Phillip's Plaza at Campbell Avenue and River Road. The transmitter site is in NE Tucson just southeasterly of the Ventana Canyon resort area. Punch 32.314N, 110.838W into Google Earth. I am 3.3 miles due south. I used to listen to KFAT during my college years and always looked forward to going to Hawaii for Radio Free Hawaii (FM I believe) sometime after that.
