Re: [JAWS-Users] Some questions and concerns about updating to Windows 10.
Hi LeDon, Windows 10 works great with Jaws 17. You can make it look like W-7, you still have the convenience of the start button, very easy to learn what the All Apps region looks like. The live tile region is easy to learn and to customize to your personal preferences. The settings area is strait forward and easy to learn. You can upgrade to the latest windows operating system for free. The system works and preforms much faster than W-7. This is the operating system of the present and of the future. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of LeDon Becker Sent: Tuesday, May 31, 2016 3:19 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Some questions and concerns about updating to Windows 10. Re: [JAWS-Users] Some questions and concerns about updating to Windows 10.
That's when MS will cease to support Win10. However, my experience of XP was that its ability to handle the Web deteriorated long before MS abandoned official support. Also, more and more applications will be written for Win10 and not Win7. I wish all this weren't so, partly because I myself haven't made the switch yet and partly because I don't like having MS pull me by the nose over yet another learning curves and into more expense. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Janie Degenshein Sent: Tuesday, May 31, 2016 4:37 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Some questions and concerns about updatingto Windows 10. The most compelling reason to upgrade to Windows 10 is that it will eventually be the only operating system available, whenever support for Windows 7 end, which may not be right away, but it will happen. Thanks to all of you who've offered comments and suggestions. A while back, someone from this list posted a step-by-step tutorial for up-grading to Win 10. I saved it and am I glad I did!!! Re: [JAWS-Users] Some questions and concerns about updating to Windows 10.
Another issue-I was told that I could no longer use my MS Office programs with Windows 10 and that I would have to buy a new Office suite. Would all of my Outlook archived folders be preserved and all of my rather large C Drive folders as well? Hi All, Last week I contacted MS accessibility to ask if they could assist me with up-dating to Windows10. I was told that many users, particularly screen reader users are having problems with Win 10. He said that he would help, but he didn't recommend it. He explained that most of the individuals having problems are those up-dating from Windows7 to Windows10. I asked him if I should first up-date to Windows8.1 and then go to Windows10. He recommended that I do so. I know that many of you on this list have up-dated to Win10, but have those of you who went from Win7 to Win10 had a particularly hard time? I'm looking on Amazon for the cd and I'd rather not buy it if I really don't need to. I'd appreciate all pros and cons so I can make a final decision about what I should do. Thanks in advance. Re: [JAWS-Users] Some questions and concerns about updating to Windows 10.
I went to a clinic on Windows 10 and they talked about The Edge replacing IE and the elimination of Windows Media Player and there was a list of other changes. Even if Windows is an easy transition (I have heard other thoughts) is it a better platform than Windows 7? By the way, the sighted instructor from Micro Center told us that he is still using Windows 7. Many of you are more advanced users-does that make a difference? I didn't have to reinstall Jaws 17 after updating, I think that is only for Jaws 16 and earlier, perhaps also the early version of Jaws 17, but not the current one. Joe, one small point. You don't need to buy Win10. You can install it for free.
