Re: [JAWS-Users] Stopping audio playback on web pages

2017-04-28 Thread Leonard Morris
I heard you can do this with windows 10 using audio ducking. However this is
not available in windows seven. Since I'm still using Windows 7 what I do is
copy the whole page and pasted in notepad and then read the page from there.

This Iphone message was sent using the dictation feature. I apologize for any
grammar or spelling errors found in the text.

Hi Adrian and all. I apologize for the repeated post. I'm not sure what
happened the first time but I received a delivery status email and also a copy
of my own post, so I wasn't sure if it got through the first time.

I agree that, normally, a dictionary would be sufficient for looking up
prefixes and a google search would suffice for suffixes. However, when one is
trying to correct Braille or scanning errors, and cannot remember what the
original text was, I wasn't sure if these tools would be enough. Sometimes the
suffixes I'm trying out are less like "tion" or "ology" and more like "ns" or
"ts". These two suffixes possibly have been what was originally meant when I
typed "bear contraction", followed by an so. As an Braille user will know, the
"bear contraction" has similar fingering positions to a t or an n, except that
both latter letters require an extra dot. So this project requires a bit of
lateral thinking, and is quite exhausting.

By the way, I am telling myself that prevention is better than cure, that
typing a little slower and proof-reading my typing before exiting might save me
trouble later on - all the usual stuff, but when typing to dictation, even if
it's for one's own use and not for professional purposes, does require quite
fast typing and I often forget to check it straight afterward. (groan, groan).

Anyway, thanks very much for your suggestions and I'll keep them in mind for
the future.

Cheers!

Michele,

I didn't mean to sound as though I was complaining about your two posts. I was
just acknowledging that no one had replied to the first, so I thought I'd take
a stab at your second.

I get what you say about the "ar" contraction in the braille for "bear"
resembling a braille "t" and an "n." Unfortunately, beyond that, I have to say
I don't understand what you're getting at. I'd think that grouping either "ns"
or "ts" endings would be a daunting task, considering that the pair of
two-letter combination occurs all over the place. Clearly, I don't have enough
context, and you probably feel constrained in how much to explain on-list. Or
maybe there's a hint here that, as a thesis advisor would say, you might need
to think through your inquiry again.

I'm wondering if I'm hearing the footsteps of the JAWS relevance police.

[JAWS-Users] repair jaws

2017-04-28 Thread Kevin
I got these steps to repair jaws from VFO themselves.
Try running a repair on the JAWS® screen reading software and see if this makes
a difference. If not, I need you to email me back providing me with log files
of the crash. These steps follow the repair instructions below:

Download the JAWS® screen reading software version 18.0 February 2017 update to
the root of the hard drive from one of the links below:

• JAWS 18.0.2738 64-bit English - April 2017

http://jaws18.vfo.digital/2738MJ100T/J18.0.2738enu-x64.exe

• JAWS 18.0.2738 32-bit English - April 2017

http://jaws18.vfo.digital/2738MJ100T/J18.0.2738enu-x86.exe

Once the file is on the root of your hard drive, take the steps below to run a
repair and see if the issue persist.

1.Activate the run dialog “windows key+r”

2.Type in:

c:\J18.0.2738enu-x64.exe /type repair

or

c:\J18.0.2738enu-x86.exe /type repair

And hit enter

Once the repair is complete, see if the issue persist.

my question is what’s the root of the harddrive?

2017-04-28 Thread Adrian Spratt
Kevin,

I have an answer for you, but let me first suggest that when posting a long
query in the future, maybe put the question at the beginning. Normally I would
have stopped reading this post because (1) I know how to repair JAWS and (2) I
recently received other repair instructions from FS that are simpler.
In any event, the root of your hard drive in most cases is the C drive. It's
the trunk from which all the other folders branch out. Your system may be
configured differently. I suggest you open "Computer" on your desktop and see
how the hard drive is identified. If it isn't C, then it will be another letter.
Good luck.

Jeff,

Does this happen in all edit fields, only in those associated with a specific
application, or what? A basic suggestion would be to ensure the window is
maximized. The universal way to maximize a window is to press alt and the

JAWS will not be able to read or focus in this list for the moment. This was

Microsoft Planning to End Support for Standalone Versions of Office by 2020

| April 26, 2017 in
How-To

The future of Microsoft Office is
subscriptions.
That sums up what the company confirmed recently in a blog post notifying
users about its plans to wind down support for standalone versions of
Office aka perpetual licenses; which want to connect to its Office 365 cloud
services. That means versions such as Office 2010, 2013 and 2016 will no
longer be able to access O365 cloud services such as Exchange Online,
Sharepoint Online, OneDrive for Business or Skype for Business by October
2020.

The company is not ending development of perpetual versions of the suite,
but users will need to move to the latest versions in order to access all of
Microsoft's O365 Cloud services. For example, Office 2016 which was launched
in September 2015 will have its mainstream support end in 2020. So, if you
don't cut over to a Microsoft Office subscription by then, it will no longer
be supported to connect to Microsoft's cloud services.

Microsoft Winding Down Support for Perpetual Versions of Office

One of the key benefits of Office 365 versus Office 2016 is the ongoing
delivery of new features and functionality. Office 2016 Professional Plus
has pretty much stood still since its 2015 release, receiving only security
updates. Office 365, on the other hand, has received numerous improvements
and features such as improved collaboration, business intelligence
enhancements in Excel and Motion Path in PowerPoint. For many users, the
standalone suite remains attractive, especially for organizations that need
control over access to features in the suite. Here is what Microsoft's Ron
Markezich had to say about the changes ahead.

block quote
When customers connect to Office 365 with a legacy version of Office,
they're not enjoying all that the service has to offer. The IT
benefits-particularly security-are cut short. And the end user experience in
the apps is limited to the features shipped at a point in time. To ensure
that customers are getting the most out of their Office 365 subscription, we
are updating our system requirements.

list of 3 items
* Office 365 ProPlus or Office perpetual in mainstream support required to
connect to Office 365 services. Starting October 13, 2020, Office 365
ProPlus or Office perpetual in mainstream support will be required to
connect to Office 365 services. Office 365 ProPlus will deliver the best
experience, but for customers who aren't ready to move to the cloud by 2020,
we will also support connections from Office perpetual in mainstream
support.
* Applies to Office 365 commercial services only. This update does not
change our system requirements or support policies for the Office perpetual
clients, Office perpetual clients connecting to on-premises servers, or any
consumer services.
* More than three years' notice. We're providing more than three years'
notice to give IT time to plan and budget for this change. Until this new
requirement goes into effect in 2020, Office 2010, Office 2013 and Office
2016 perpetual clients will still be able to connect to Office 365 services.

Microsoft is slowly nudging users to move to Office 365, which actually
offers greater value in the long run by being cheaper up front, plus it's
continually updated with new features and flexible deployment options. Three
years is ample notice, especially for versions such as Office 2010, which
would have been expected to stop receiving support by 2020.

The dream of Office as a service goes back as far as Office 2003 when

I would like to thank Freedomscientific for taking care of the weather
problem on research . As far as I am concerned it is now great. I think

This is a heart breaker for sure. If I enforce the rules then I would have
to get all hard case, but in this situation I do not wish to do that as she
is dealing with such a trajaty in her life.

Yet if I don't then those folks who depend on us following the guidelines
will feel like I let them down.

This is one of those many times that I do not like sitting in the big chair
so to speak. I think that possibly she might be so kind as to post her
personal email address on here so people can contact her with their
respective messages of support.

I have one that I will share with her alone and not on the list as it is not
for public viewing. I have her email address, but then again I have
everybody's' email address as whenever anybody comes or goes it crosses my
desk alerting me of such things.

What do you say Zoe, do you want to post your personal address so folks can
contact you privately? Trust me in the past couple of years this house has
had its share of problems and major operations. So I know what difficulties
arise in a persons' life.

Hi my fellow elf's and Mrs. Clause. Hope you are all doing ok. Unfortunately
I have no choice, I have to unsubscribe from all the email groups I belong
to. I haven't been able to check email and be online for a long time and it
seems I will be out of things for much longer. When I turned on my laptop
this morning I had over fifteen thousand emails waiting for me. Given my
situation I just can't keep up anymore. I pray that one day I recover and
are able to join my favourite groups again. My family is against me telling
people what's wrong but I feel in writing this email I'm also helping myself
to come to grips with my illness. I will remain subscribed a few more days
so that I may read your thoughts in hopes that your words might help me to
continue to fight this awful illness.
Again I'm sorry for the off topic post and I hope the moderators can find it
in their hearts to forgive me, and if one day I recover I hope they will
remember me and let me back in to my favourite mailing groups.
Before I tell you all my story, I would like to thank each and every one of
you for either your help on various topics, or your individual private help
through the phone or private email, or your messages of getting to know me,
or your words of encouragement when it came to the mac, jaws, NVDA, windows
10, household tips, cooking instructions, prayers, and harmless chit chat.
If I offended anyone in anyway, or gave anyone a hard time please forgive
me.
Here's my unbelievable story.
Last August I was doing a lot of gardening mostly weeding to be honest. I
was on my hands and knees from morning to night pulling weeds and keeping my
property clean. I am grateful to the good Lord for blessing me to have such
a lovely property but it's old and no one ever took care of the garden. The
result is weeds on top of my weeds. Chemicals are forbidden here in Canada,
and I haven't been able to find an affordable solution, so I'm left with
fighting weeds on a daily bases. I am a sun lover and adore summer, last
summer was the first time in my life that I couldn't wait for summer to be
over. I was exhausted and I have nothing to remember for my
