You can change this behavior by either a) setting the 'expires' header in the theme jsp b) setting the 'expires' property for the response objhect in the portlet I'm not sure if b will work well, so try adding this as the first line after <% at the top of portal-core.sar\portal-core.war\nodesk\index.jsp response.setHeader( "expires", "0" ); This will cause the browser to make a call to the server every time a page is requested. [JBoss-dev] [Design of JBoss Portal] - Re: Maximize behavior: Nukes vs Rest of the World
JSR already has a window state, MAXIMIZE, to handle this. We need a special window state, SEMI_MAXIMIZE to handle the current behavior. A basic problem at the moment is that you cannot define a page that does not have a default window (null pointer exceptions). Once you have a default window it becomes the main fragment even if it is not maximized. Try using Pluto, Jetspeed, Liferay, WebSphere, Oracle, BEA. I'm pretty sure they all behave the same way. When you maximize a portlet, it gets the entire portlet region to itself, when you switch it back to normal, you get the other portlets back again. I'll send you some screen shots of my styles and the behavior. [JBoss-dev] [Design of JBoss Portal] - Re: Maximize behavior: Nukes vs Rest of the World
Caching is still redundant work in this scenario... This does not seem to work well at the theme level. I have to create a fake portlet with a special name, make it the default, and have special handling in the index.jsp to hide the fake portlet and render the page different ways based on the state of the fake portlet. JBoss Portal's handling of the main fragment fundamentally affects the behavior and appearance of the page, such that this behavior cannot effectively be handled by a theme alone. If you want to keep the old Nuke's behavior I think you need to at least support a full maximize without requiring a hack. Also this approach seems inefficient since all of my portlets are being called to render content every time, but the theme is hiding their windows. I'm not sure how to do this since I cannot seem to create a page that does not have a default window. I have tried it and the page is not accessible. If I have a default window, the portal sets it to be maximized, and if my theme give it the whole page I never see my other portlets because I cannot view the default window in its normal state. I am trying to build 'jboss-portal' (I assume this is the latest 'jboss-portal-2.0' seems to have older code it in). 'jboss-portal' does not include the thirdparty files as 'jboss-portal-2.0' does. When I get jboss-portal-thirdparty from CVS the directory structure does not match the structure that is expected by the ant build tasks. e.g. I get jboss/hibernate/lib/jboss-hibernate.jar instead of jboss-hibernate/lib/jboss-hibernate.jar This causes me to go thru (an error prone) manual exercise. Is there an ant task to convert the directory structure or is this a problem with my CVS client (Eclipse)? thanks View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3866738#3866738 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3866738 --- SF email is sponsored by - The IT Product Guide Read honest & candid reviews on hundreds of IT Products from real users. [JBoss-dev] [Design of JBoss Portal] - Re: JSR-168 question
I don't think all the deployment files are covered by the spec (just portlet.xml). The *-pages.xml document in JBoss roughly maps in content to Pluto's pageregistry.xml document and JBoss's portlet-instances.xml roughly maps to portletentityregistry.xml. Whilst the contents of the documents are roughly equivalent, the format of the files is different. I have successfully deployed by having these files (with appropriate content) in my WEB-INF directory portlet.xml (defines your portlets) | portlet-instances.xml (defines instances of your portlets) | context-pages.xml (defines your pages) | | | Chapter 2 of the reference guide describes the deployment files for JBoss Portal. | | For good measure I also have copies of jboss-portlet.xml, jboss-service.xml, jboss-web.xml in my WEB-INF. Jetspeed and Pluto have tabsets that let users easily navigate to different portals / portal pages. Is there a plan to have any portal level navigation? Or is that supposed to be supplied by a portlet (in which case we get into portal specific issues)? [JBoss-dev] [Design of JBoss Portal] - Re: themes and TABLEs vs DIVs
Ok, I'll try and get a theme or two going for JBoss Portal. If you look at the source for the CSSZenGarden HTML and CSS files, they rely on DIVs a lot to get the level of control that you need for creating extensive themes for these kinds of pages. [JBoss-dev] [Design of JBoss Portal] - Re: themes and TABLEs vs DIVs
You can still apply styles to individual tables within a DIV. However a DIV allows you to manipulate a section of the page, including its location, something you cannot do with a table alone. See http://www.csszengarden.com for examples of how well you can theme pages if they are DIV'ed intelligently. You cannot do this kind of styling using tables. Consider these two web pages. The only difference between these pages is the CSS, the HTML is identical. http://www.csszengarden.com/?cssfile=/142/142.css&page=0 http://www.csszengarden.com/?cssfile=/144/144.css&page=0 Not only are the fonts/colors etc different but the entire layout of the page (location of the menu, intoduction, paragraphs etc) is different. IMO the differences between the handling of DIVs in IE and the mozilla-based browsers is no worse than the differences in the handling of tables and margins (in many cases is the same old issue, e.g. whether outer margins are counted as being within the overall width of the object etc) View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3863425#3863425 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3863425 --- This SF.Net email is sponsored by: IntelliVIEW -- Interactive Reporting Tool for open source databases. The current UI pages are built with HTML tables instead of DIVs. Using DIVs would enable much more flexibility when it comes to UI themes. All of the jsps in 2.0 Alpha extend from org.jboss.portal.core.servlet.jsp.PortalJsp except portal-core.sar\portal-core.war\WEB-INF\jsp\cms\admin\confirmcreatecollection.jsp and confirmcopy.jsp. These descend from org.jboss.portal.core.servlet.jsp.PortalJSP (note different case of last two letters). This different case is causing the compilation of those JSPs to fail. [JBoss-dev] [JBoss Portal Development] - Re: cannot deploy DR or latest source
I am trying to deploy nukes-2-DR to jboss 3.2.6. There is no deploy target in the DR build.xml and jboss-3.2.6RC2-nukes-2.0-DR does not come with the standard server configured to run successfully. I have tried nukes-2 and JBoss-4.0.0. I can build it but get even more errors when I try to deploy. At the moment I am trying to get the DR source to work with jboss-3.2.6RC2-nukes-2.0-DR. I am a little amused beacuse you guys keep telling me to follow the directions on the wiki. And they keep not working in my configuration. You should try following the directions for Windows, they don't work. e.g. On Windows: 1. cd to your JBoss Portal source directory. C:\files\dev\code\eclipse\workspace2>cd nukes-2 Run build/build main (This will compile and create your nukes-core.sar) C:\files\dev\code\eclipse\workspace2\nukes-2>build/build main | 'build' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. hmm. maybe that '/' should be a '\' (odd) C:\files\dev\code\eclipse\workspace2\nukes-2>build\build main | Executing C:\files\dev\code\eclipse\workspace2\nukes-2\build\..\tools\bin\ant.bat -logger org.apache.tools.ant.NoBannerLogger main | Buildfile: build.xml does not exist! | Build failed | Press any key to continue . . . hmm. Maybe I need to be in the build directory (did anyone even try this?). C:\files\dev\code\eclipse\workspace2\nukes-2>cd build | | C:\files\dev\code\eclipse\workspace2\nukes-2\build>build main | Executing C:\files\dev\code\eclipse\workspace2\nukes-2\build\..\tools\bin\ant.bat -logger org.apache.tools.ant.NoBannerLogger main | Buildfile: build.xml | | _buildmagic:init: | etc Ahh, there we go. So much for the directions on the Wiki... I have edited the wiki to fix this. However shouldn't there by something up there about downloading nukes-2-thirdparty? I think there is an issue with the directory structure of nukes-2-thirdparty (at least as eclipse retrieves it). Anyway. I'm just trying to get the DR to deploy to JBoss 3.2.6. Still no luck. All suggestions welcomed. See the log below... Without the .portlet-table-* styles are you expecting us to define those styles inline? If I do that isn't it likely to cause style differences with other portlet-s tables? i.e. if OracleAS defines .portet-table-* and calls my portlet either locally or remotely and I define the styles inline my portlet tables are going to either look different, or affect tables in other portlets. [JBoss-dev] [JBoss Portal Development] - Re: Build Fails....
I'm just trying to provide you guys with constructive feedback. I understand this is suposed to be simple, but I'm not the only one having problems with it. I suggest a) an upfront validation of JBOSS_HOME (including version) that checks for the existance of jboss-cache.jar etc and b) some classpath-related feedback in the compile targets so that we know where stuff should be if is it not or c) you can hand hold everyone else that will hit the same problems ;-) View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3857400#3857400 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3857400 --- SF email is sponsored by - The IT Product Guide Read honest & candid reviews on hundreds of IT Products from real users. [JBoss-dev] [JBoss Portal Development] - WSRP Standard Styles
Is V2 going to provide stylesheets that support the WSRP 'standard' styles? If not what is the recommended way to generate portlet content that will look styled correctly in both local and remote scenarios? Here is a sample WSRP stylesheet that I have been using .portlet-font{ | Color : #00 ; | Font-Family : Arial ; | Font-Size : 8pt ; | border-bottom: inherited; | padding-bottom:0; | } | | A.portlet-font:link { | font-weight: inherited; | text-decoration : none ; | border-bottom: 1px dotted #00; | color: #00; | } | | A.portlet-font:hover { | font-weight: inherited; | text-decoration : none ; | border-bottom: 0px dotted #00; | color: #00; | background-color: #FADC95; | } | | .portlet-font-dim{ | Color : #00 ; | Text-Decoration : none ; | Font-Family : Arial ; | Font-Size : 8pt ; | } | | .portlet-msg-status{ | Color : #00 ; | Text-Decoration : none ; | Font-Family : Arial ; | Font-Size : 8pt ; | } | | .portlet-msg-info{ | Color : #00 ; | Text-Decoration : none ; | Font-Family : Arial ; | Font-Size : 8pt ; | } | | .portlet-msg-error{ | Color : #00 ; | Text-Decoration : none ; | Font-Family : Arial ; | Font-Size : 8pt ; | } | | .portlet-msg-alert{ | Color : #00 ; | Text-Decoration : none ; | Font-Family : Arial ; | Font-Size : 8pt ; | } | | .portlet-msg-success{ | Color : #00 ; | Text-Decoration : none ; | Font-Family : Arial ; | Font-Size : 8pt ; | } | | .portlet-section-header{ | Color : #00 ; | Font-Family : Arial, Helvetica ; | Font-Size : 9pt ; | Font-Weight : Bold ; | } | | .portlet-section-body{ | Color : #00 ; | Text-Decoration : none ; | Font-Family : Arial ; | Font-Size : 8pt ; | } | | .portlet-section-alternate{ | Color : #00 ; | Text-Decoration : none ; | Font-Family : Arial ; | Font-Size : 8pt ; | } | | .portlet-section-selected{ | Color : #00 ; | Text-Decoration : none ; | Font-Family : Arial ; | Font-Size : 8pt ; | } | | .portlet-section-subheader{ | Color : #00 ; | Font-Family : Arial, Helvetica ; | Font-Size : 9pt ; | Font-Weight : Bold ; | } | | .portlet-section-footer{ | Color : #00 ; | Text-Decoration : none ; | Font-Family : Arial ; | Font-Size : 8pt ; | } | | .portlet-section-text{ | Color : #00 ; | Text-Decoration : none ; | Font-Family : Arial ; | Font-Size : 8pt ; | } | | .portlet-table-header{ | Color : #00 ; | Font-Family : Arial, Helvetica ; | Font-Size : 9pt ; | Font-Weight : Bold ; | vertical-align: bottom; | Background-Color : white ; | border-bottom: 2px solid #00; | } | | A.portlet-table-header{ | Color : #00 ; | Font-Family : Arial, Helvetica ; | Font-Size : 9pt ; | Font-Weight : Bold ; | vertical-align: bottom; | Background-Color : white ; | border-bottom: 0px solid white; | padding-left:5px; | text-decoration: none; | } | | .portlet-table-body{ | Color : #00 ; | Text-Decoration : none ; | Font-Family : Arial ; | Font-Size : 8pt ; | border-left: 1px solid #e0e0e0; | border-right: 1px solid #e0e0e0; | } | | .portlet-table-alternate{ | Color : #00 ; | Text-Decoration : none ; | Font-Family : Arial ; | Font-Size : 8pt ; | border-bottom: 1px solid #e0e0e0; | } | | .portlet-table-selected{ | Color : #00 ; | Text-Decoration : none ; | Font-Family : Arial ; | Font-Size : 8pt ; | background-color: #F4B94E; | border-bottom: 1px solid #e0e0e0; | } | | .portlet-table-subheader{ | Color : #00 ; | Font-Family : Arial, Helvetica ; | Font-Size : 9pt ; | Font-Weight : Bold ; | } | | .portlet-table-footer{ | Color : #00 ; | Text-Decoration : none ; | Font-Family : Arial ; | Font-Size : 8pt ; | } | | .portlet-table-text{ | Color : #00 ; | Text-Decoration : none ; | Font-Family : Arial ; | Font-Size : 8pt ; | border-bottom: 1px solid #e0e0e0; | } | | .portlet-form-label{ | Color : #00 ; | Text-Decoration : none ; | Font-Family : Arial ; | Font-Size : 8pt ; | } | | .portlet-form-input-field{ | Color : #00 ; | Text-Decoration : none ; | Font-Family : Arial ; | Font-Size : 8pt ; | } | | .portlet-form-button{ | Color : #00 ; | Text-Decoration : none ; | Font-Family : Arial ; | Font-Size : 8pt ; | } | | .portlet-icon-label{ | Color : #00 ; | Text-Decoration : none ; | Font-Family : Arial ; | Font-Size : 8pt ; | } | | .portlet-d
[JBoss-dev] [JBoss Portal Development] - Re: Build Fails....
The fog is starting to clear. I have JBOSS_HOME pointing to jboss-3.2.6RC2-nukes-2.0-DR. I think I originally had a typo in the path which caused most of my pain. I was assuming that there was supposed to be an easier way to get it built but I had all kinds of problems. Some stuff would compile in Eclipse but not in Ant, other stuff in Ant and not Eclipse. Part of my issues were not knowing the JBoss projects in CVS (like what is the difference between common, jboss-common, and common-jboss) or being real familiar with Ant. Once I started pulling on threads they just got longer. Not knowing where the problem might be I just kept grabbing stuff and building it. The main issues I had were: 1) It is confusing because ant.bat builds up a big classpath (which I assumed was going to be used to find the jars), but each compile target builds its own classpath. I spent hours tweaking the classpath that Ant was being passed, not knowing that it was making no difference to the build. 1) I had real problems with the directory structures that I got from CVS. The paths expected by the build files did not match what I ended up with. Once I worked out how to convert a path to a property in Ant and echo it so I could see where Ant was looking for each JAR it helped a lot. It would be really useful to put that in each of the 'configure-libraries' targets. | 2) I never did find an official version.mf for build/etc. Is there one? 3) When I got to the deploy target it copies the sar to server/standard/deploy, whilst the three different versions of jboss I tried were all running the 'default' server. ;-) The directions on the Wiki pointed me in the right direction but it took me 2 days to build a .sar that still doesn't deploy :-( I think some classpath related feedback during the build would help a lot of people figure out their issues. I'm not saying you're wrong but if I only include the jars in nukes-2-thirdparty I get 769 errors during compilation... Where is log4j supposed to come from? Also jboss-cache.jar is needed all over the place. If you want to build from the source, once you pull down _jboss_cache you need to 10 other sets of source. If kazuo's post does not fix it make sure you have the xdoclet jar files in thirdparty\xdoclet-xdoclet\lib\xdoclet*.jar instead of thirdparty\xdoclet\xdoclet\lib\xdoclet*.jar View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3857375#3857375 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3857375 --- SF email is sponsored by - The IT Product Guide Read honest & candid reviews on hundreds of IT Products from real users. try this... there is a line in run.bat that reads: set JAVA_OPTS=-Xdebug -Xnoagent -Djava.compiler=NONE -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_shmem,address=jboss,server=y,suspend=n %JAVA_OPTS%.. comment it out, e.g rem set JAVA_OPTS=-Xdebug -Xnoagent -Djava.compiler=NONE -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_shmem,address=jboss,server=y,suspend=n %JAVA_OPTS%.. and add this line after it: set JAVA_OPTS=-Xms128m -Xmx512m View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3857371#3857371 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3857371 --- SF email is sponsored by - The IT Product Guide Read honest & candid reviews on hundreds of IT Products from real users. [JBoss-dev] [JBoss Portal Development] - Re: Build Fails....
I don't know if I missed an easy way to do all this but these were the steps I used to get the code to build on Windows XP... get the following projects from CVS 1. build common (_jboss_common) jmx (_jboss_jmx) j2ee (_jboss_j2ee) system (_jboss_system) naming (_jboss_naming) transaction (_jboss_transaction) aop (_jboss_aop) server (_jboss_server) jaxrpc (_jboss_jaxrpc) remoting (_jboss_remoting) cache (_jboss_cache) hibernate (_jboss_hibernate) nukes-2 nukes-2-thirdparty thirdparty tools 2. under your nukes-2 directory make sure you thirdparty\dom4j-dom4j\lib\dom4j.jar thirdparty\jakarta-cactus\lib\cactus.jar etc thirdparty\jboss-hibernate\lib\hibernate2jar etc thirdparty\jboss-javassist\lib\javassist.jar thirdparty\jflex-jflex\lib\jflex.jar thirdparty\jregex-jregex\lib\jregex.jar thirdparty\junit-junit\lib\junit.jar thirdparty\sun-servlet\lib\servlet-api.jar etc thirdparty\xdoclet-xdoclet\lib\xdoclet.jar etc If you do not (my nukes-2-thirdparty stuff did not end up in this structure) make directories and copy files from nukes-2-thirdparty 3. Make sure you have an environment variable called SUN_JAVACC_LIB that points to a directory containing JavaCC.zip (https://javacc.dev.java.net/) 4. In the 'build' directory create a new directory called 'etc'. Copy version.mf from 'build/jbossmq/etc/ to 'build/etc'. (I could not find any project that had a 'build/etc/version.mf' in it and doing this seemed to cure my build problem) 5. Run each of the project build scripts in the order I listed the projects above starting in 'common' and ending in 'nukes-2' I ended up with the SARs and WARs that it talks about on this page http://www.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=JBossPortal. However: I have jboss-3.2.6RC2-nukes-2.0-DR setup and running ok, but when I try deploying my new nukes-core.sar to server/default/deploy I get all kinds of errors. I think they are JAR related but I'm not sure. I'll post another reply if I get it to deploy View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3857361#3857361 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3857361 --- SF email is sponsored by - The IT Product Guide Read honest & candid reviews on hundreds of IT Products from real users.
