I think you are talking about the standard job view. Changing component to core as the dashboard view plugin does not control this feature (it is inherited by jenkins' job view).

The arrows that indicate the sorting direction (ascending/descending) in the 
dashboard column headings seem to be inconsistent.
In the 'Name' column, a down-arrow indicates ascending.
In the 'Last Success' column, a down-arrow indicates descending.
In the 'Last Failure' column, a down-arrow indicates descending.
In the 'Last Duration' column, a down-arrow indicates ascending.
