https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=433731 Bug ID: 433731 Summary: Double clicking Icons on New or Custom Activity Desktop does nothing if using a custom Location instead of the default Desktop Folder Product: kactivitymanagerd Version: 5.21.0 Platform: openSUSE RPMs OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: ivan.cu...@kde.org Reporter: enlightenme...@cock.li CC: plasma-b...@kde.org Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY: Double clicking Icons on New or Custom Activity Desktop does nothing if using a custom Location instead of the default Desktop Folder STEPS TO REPRODUCE: 1. Create a New Activity Right Click on the desktop Select 'Show Activity Switcher' At the very bottom, click on '+ Create Activity...' Give the new Activity an Icon, a Name & Description Press OK Change the "Location:" from the default settings of 'Desktop' to a custom made folder Configure Desktop and Wallpaper > Location: Change this to custom location Apply 2. Add an app icon to the desktop via right-clicking on an app from the Application Launcher menu and choosing Add to Desktop 3. Double click on the app icon on the desktop OBSERVED RESULT: The .desktop file is treated as a normal file with an attempt to open it up with another app EXPECTED RESULT: To run the actual app the icon represents, just like on the normal default activitys desktop SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS: Linux/KDE Plasma: Operating System: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20210223 KDE Plasma Version: 5.21.0 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.79.0 Qt Version: 5.15.2 Kernel Version: 5.11.1-2.g992837b-default OS Type: 64-bit Graphics Platform: X11 Processors: 4 × Intel® Core™ i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz Memory: 15.5 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: AMD PITCAIRN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Double clicking Icons on New or Custom Activity Desktop does nothing if using a custom Location instead of the default Desktop Folder: CONCLUSION: Double clicking on .desktop files, either in the original Desktop folder or ones that have been copied into another folder will not result in the application launching Properties in any normal icon on the desktop, under TAB: Application, in field 'Command:' will show just an application name to run, but no PATH from which to run it from The only explanation i can think of for the application(s) being able to run in the normal default activity, is because the applications executables are already in the PATH (possibly the PATH Environment variable) File Managers will just treat all .desktop files as a 'file to be run with an application' It does not matter if the folder its either the normal Desktop folder or the path /usr/share/applications/ where there are also .desktop files Custom Activitys also assume this same behavior as file managers, and treat all .desktop files as files to be 'opened' with an application There is no recognition that the .desktop files are themselves pointers/links to actual executable apps. Presumably the PATH to these apps is not seen in custom Activitys -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

On my system, non-spacing diacritics don't show up after fixing that. Unicode recommends applying them to NBSP to exhibit them in isolation. However, doing that, I get the diacritic applied to what appears to be the replacement character (the enclosed interrogation thingie). [plasmashell] [Bug 433724] New: Kickoff and KRunner should not share the enabled plugin list
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=433724 Bug ID: 433724 Summary: Kickoff and KRunner should not share the enabled plugin list Product: plasmashell Version: 5.21.1 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: Application Launcher (Kickoff) Assignee: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk Reporter: pub...@redaril.me CC: mikel5...@gmail.com, plasma-b...@kde.org Target Milestone: 1.0 SUMMARY The new Kickoff menu shares the plugin settings with KRunner. In KRunner, I'd like to search and instantly access to files, applications, browser tabs and, in general, interact with my computer by reducing clicks. In Kickoff, I expect it to be an application launcher/finder, or a collector of favorite locations at most. For this reason, I don't need all the capabilities KRunner has, and in fact I feel the current result list of Kickoff as cluttered. Ideally, the list of enabled plugins in these two components should be separated. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Search "thunder" in Kickoff 2. Browse through the list of results to find the Thunderbird application 3. Click on the Thunderbird launcher OBSERVED RESULT Kickoff returns a list of results. The same list is returned from KRunner. EXPECTED RESULT Kickoff should return a different list of results because I should've enabled a different set of plugins. [valgrind] [Bug 432870] gdbserver_tests:nlcontrolc hangs with newest glibc2.33 x86-64
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=432870 Mark Wielaard changed: What|Removed |Added CC||philippe.waroquiers@skynet. ||be --- Comment #6 from Mark Wielaard --- Currently nlcontrol works because gdbserver_tests/nlcontrolc.stdinB.gdb does: # Here, all tasks should be blocked in a lg select, all in WaitSys info threads # We will unblock them by changing their timeout argument # To avoid going into the frame where the timeval arg is, # it has been defined as global variables, as the nr # of calls on the stack differs between 32bits and 64bits, # and/or between OS. # ensure select finishes in a few milliseconds max: p t[0].tv_sec = 0 p t[1].tv_sec = 0 p t[2].tv_sec = 0 p t[3].tv_sec = 0 First, I am surprised this works. Once the thread is stuck in the select system call it seems changing the user space tv_sec shouldn't have effect on the select call in progress. Also each new select call will reset the tv_sec: t[s->t].tv_sec = sleepms / 1000; t[s->t].tv_usec = (sleepms % 1000) * 1000; And sleepms won't change. So it seems it only worked by accident. It doesn't seem to work on other kernels as stated in nlcontrol.vgtest: # This test is disabled on Solaris because modifying select/poll/ppoll timeout # has no effect if a thread is already blocked in that syscall. Now that glibc always seems to call pselect6 for which it has to copy and translate the given timeval to a timespec, the GNU/Linux implementation also won't work anymore with this testcase. This also explains why it never worked on arm64, because that doesn't have a plain select syscall. So glibc was always translating the given timeval already. Ideally we fix this by interrupting the select syscalls some other way. But I don't know how to do that. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[bugs.kde.org] [Bug 417941] Migrate to Discourse
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=417941 Philippe Cloutier changed: What|Removed |Added CC||chea...@gmail.com --- Comment #6 from Philippe Cloutier --- I must confirm that Discourse is in no way designed to power bug trackers, and would be quite a downgrade even from bugs.kde.org's current engine. The only engines which I believe would be worth investigating as Bugzilla replacements are Atlassian Jira and Redmine. Please take care to formulate issue reports as reports of *issues*, rather than requests. For example, this ticket should be titled something like "Uses aging engine", not "Migrate to [some engine]". It is fine to suggest specific solutions in your ticket, but that should not be done in its title. Another approach is to instead report specific issues of the current engine. Which is already started; the editing limitation you mention is already tracked in ticket #334299, and I personally already reported a significant number of other bugs.kde.org issues which likely come from its engine. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kdenlive] [Bug 433654] kdenlive crashes on opening project file
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=433654 --- Comment #3 from gerd.mun...@bigpond.com --- The first time the crash in launching a project happened after I had saved and closed kdenlive. All that went without any problems. But I just can't recall what I specifically changed before I saved the project. There is, however, a strange thing happening now. The crash occurs consistently when I start kdenlive and then try to open the project file. I manage to open it when I start kdenlive from a command line with the project file as a parameter. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[digikam] [Bug 433716] New: Feature Request: Search/Detect upside down images through Deep Learning
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=433716 Bug ID: 433716 Summary: Feature Request: Search/Detect upside down images through Deep Learning Product: digikam Version: unspecified Platform: unspecified OS: All Status: REPORTED Severity: wishlist Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: digikam-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: tahar...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY It is amazing what can be achieved with Deep Learning these days. The improvement in face detection with YOLO has been incredible, and it has brought this idea back to me again. Apply Deep Learning to search / detect images that are upside down (or rotated), and thus be able to later select all of them (or those that one needs / prefers) to correct them. I have been seeing that there are many projects in this regard, and quite well documented. Perhaps some owned "sanitized" albums (with correctly oriented images) could be used as training data for the neural network, and later applied to the rest of the library. In my tests, this would also improve facial recognition (not detection). Those images that are already tagged and that are still rotated, greatly reduce the precision when used as training data for recognition. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
