Ah disregard. Sorry for the double-ping, but the difference I was seeing was
just the result of the panel heights being different. It definitely still gets
weirdly huge in Auto size mode.

I can reproduce this on base Fedora in a VM, just installation and full
upgrades, no other changes.

It doesn't happen on Tuxedo OS with the same version. It might be something
Fedora specific, or a kde bug that only appears with newer system packages than
what Tuxedo provides. You may want to report a bug on Fedora's bug tacker just
in case.

2024-07-31 Thread Nick
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=491041

Okay, I think I can confirm this is probably a bug stemming elsewhere and not
necessarily from DPI switching or even the settings specifically on the Digital
Clock widget. I just added a new default panel, and we get different behavior
with the clock widget:

https://i.imgur.com/omlKofR.png

Above is the new panel, below is the old panel. Not sure what's different about
the current panel config that's causing the clock widget to act funky, but
there's something!

I tested this on 6.1.3 and git-master

- Caused a notification to appear with an email, it was above the notification
icon as expected (lower right on my systems)
- Connected an external monitor, disconnected it and reconnected it
- Caused another notification

git-master: Notifications appear in the same spot after reconnecting the
monitor. No crash.
6.1.3: Notifications appear in wrong spot - in the lower left corner rather
than the lower right above the icon. No crash.

It appears this might be resolved in git-master, but I'll leave this open so
more knowledgeable folks can add information if necessary

Because you're using X11, a total system freeze can't be caused by KWin, but
rather the X server. Only on Wayland can KWin be the culprit.

I strongly suspect this is caused a GPU driver issue. Maybe the KWin developers
can help you pinpoint which one it is anyway, so you can report it to the
driver devs (see https://docs.mesa3d.org/bugs.html).

Seems like the countdown for the tooltip is only triggered if the cursor is

If you move from an Icon directly to the desktop or another app the tooltip

Switching to Single row is done by disabling the "Show date" checkbox, right? I
just tried that, it appears to have the opposite effect and made the text size
even larger:

[plasmashell] [Bug 491041] Clock Widget Does not Respect DPI Scaling

2024-07-31 Thread Nate Graham
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=491041

The "Auto" size is actually correct since you have the clock in its (default)
two-row mode. It's large to ensure that the text remains readable. If you force
the text to display in single-row mode, you'll see that the text becomes much
smaller, and should be approximately the height of the System Tray icons.

Before we proceed, can you confirm that?

And if you can confirm it, can you try manipulating the scale between 100% and
150% to see if the text remains the same height, or if it exhibits the original
issue you're reporting?

Given the proposed UX, I think showing a big blank "Yay, you have this random
video codec, click Next now!" would be a bit silly. I think the request makes
sense in general.

For the moment, could you integrate the OpenH264 content into another existing

No, when I connect a new screen, the files on the desktop of my laptop do *not*
move or get copied onto that new screen. That's definitely not expected
behavior.

Do you have:
1. Files on the desktop
2. A secondary screen you sometimes use, or use at home
3. Some of your desktop files are on the desktop that screen

If so, then I might understand what's going on. If not, we need to keep
digging.

Still only in the filechooser portal.

Tried on the same folder, a camera folder containing mostly JPG files.

In Dolphin, it is not really fast but works fine, when using Firefox (with "use
portal" in "about:config" enabled) the same folder, pictures appear waaay
slower like 5 times slower, sometimes disappear again.

This may be a memory saving issue? Or a process priority issue?

Unloading "old" preview thumbnails would make sense if memory is low.

[kdepim] [Bug 491076] New: Feature Request: do display one's own sender/recipient email address and name

2024-07-31 Thread Georg Schwarz
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=491076

Bug ID: 491076
Summary: Feature Request: do display one's own sender/recipient
email address and name
Classification: Applications
   Product: kdepim
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Manjaro
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: messagecore
  Assignee: kdepim-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: georg.schw...@freenet.de
  Target Milestone: ---

KDE PIM does not display one's own email address and name, but instead replaces
it with "me".
This is certainly a feature appreciated by many users, however in a language
like German this looks very awkward (for details see
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=469713). So it would be very desirable to
be able to switch off that feature.

I dug through the code to find out that it is a feature implemented in
messagecore's stringutil.
It is quite easy to add a switch, e.g. like this to
messagelib/messagecore/src/utils/stringutil.cpp

Change line 443 from

const bool foundMe = onlyOneIdentity &&
(im->identityForAddress(prettyAddressStr) !=
KIdentityManagementCore::Identity::null());

to

const bool foundMe =
!(MessageCore::MessageCoreSettings::self()->displayOwnIdentity()) &&
onlyOneIdentity && (im->identityForAddress(prettyAddressStr) !=
KIdentityManagementCore::Identity::null());

and in messagelib/messagecore/src/settings/messagecore.kcfg add an item like
this:

  false

I added it to the General group, but I'm unsure whether this is the correct
approach. Moreover I'm not sure whether the messagecore settings is the right
spot for such a switch.
To test it, I set the default to true and opened an email sent by me (or sent
to me) in kmail2. Worked as expected.
There should also be an easy way to change the setting via the CLI, isn't
there?
In addition, it would be nice to have a UI to toggle this setting. There seems
to be a convenient way in messageviewer/src/ui/settings.ui, but I could not
come up with an equivalent for messagecore.
Or is having that setting in
messagelib/messageviewer/src/settings/messageviewer.kcfg.in a better idea?
(after all it's about displaying a message's header)

[okular] [Bug 370382] Using non-default size for custom stamp pixelates the stamp

2024-07-31 Thread Keyu Tao

Keyu Tao changed:

This looks like a bug related to QPixmap scaling and DPI stuffs. In
setPopplerStampAnnotationCustomImage() it calls
Okular::AnnotationUtils::loadStamp() with a rect size calculated from page size
and annotation size. However it looks like this code assumes that 1 pts = 1
pixel on screen (72 DPI?), then in Okular::AnnotationUtils::loadStamp() the
stamp is scaled too small, and results in a blurry result.
setStampCustomImage() stores the scaled image in PDF, so stamps saved by Okular
would also be blurry in other PDF readers.

A very dirty workaround is to enforce it to be at least 288 (=72*4) DPI in
setPopplerStampAnnotationCustomImage():

I don't think it's a nice fix that should be included in upstream, but at least
my signature image looks clear with this workaround.

I'm not sure this is worth doing, or even feasible. We could only do it for
Kickoff because that's the only place there's space, and even then, not all
runners have this character minimum, so the results list would start to
populate with items from some runners, consuming the space we would put a
message in.

I don't think we can do that, sorry.

Thanks, that helps a lot.

I still can't reproduce it myself; if I disable "Lock after waking from sleep"
on git master (which will become Plasma 6.2 in a few months) and put my laptop
to sleep without closing the lid, I can still wake it up with a single press of
the power button, not two.

However knowing which exact setting triggers the issue is helpful. Hopefully a
developer can figure out from that data point what might be going wrong.

Just reproduced again in Kate 24.05.2. Have you tried the steps to reproduce in
the bug description, taking into account clarifications in the Comment 3 above?

Note: after the step 4 the Find/Replace panel, which spans the width of both
left and right split views, becomes hidden; at the step 5 click close to the
right view's bottom, where the panel is going to reappear.

Using scaling would only migate the advantages of a large screen. I tried it
once some years ago and found it to be pretty awful. But thanls for the
suggestion.

And now that I found out how to increase icon size, I am happy again. I am
even finding that wayland is up to snuff. At least for my use case.

Or to be more specific, it's *intended* but I'm starting to question if this is
even wanted in the first place. Clearly it's not expected for you, which is a
point against the feature :-)

Sure I can try to come up with something. Can you point me into the right
direction? I think it should happen before the ksmserver-logout-greeter binary
is invoked. Or maybe it should be fixed by systemd? If KDE does not handle the
DISPLAY and XAUTHORITY variables at all then maybe it should not start doing
so?

Having the the same issue on Arch with the native package (so no flatpak). Some
upgrade to firewall stuff seems to have caused it. Flushing nftables rules
makes kdeconnect work again.

More troubleshooting in this thread:

I do have an Nvidia GPU, unfortunately, I'm not too sure if it was enabled or
not when I encountered this issue.

But just in case, Driver Version: 550.90.07
I'm on wayland

As mentioned, I'm not able to consistently reproduce this issue, it happens
randomly, but I think it mainly happens when I have an external monitor.
Also, just as randomly, sometimes the apps becomes all empty. Can't even click
the button to shutdown my laptop, and I have to press the power key in my
keyboard to be able to shutdown or restart.

I sometimes just run `plasmashell --replace &` and detach from the shell to fix
it
