Title:
Realtek 8153-based ethernet adapter doesn't work

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Similar to Bug #1586195.

Realtek 8153-based ethernet adapter doesn't work. No entry for the
  adapter appears in ifconfig.

Adding "0bda:8152" to tlp blacklist(/etc/default/tlp) or triggering
usb_modeswitch (by ejecting /dev/sr0) does not work either.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1627408] Re: Severe graphics regression with mainline kernel v4.7.5 on Broadwell 5500U

2016-09-24 Thread Nicholas Stommel
I was unable to use apport-collect but I believe the information I have
provided is sufficient. I am running Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS with kernel
v4.7.5-generic on a x64 HP Spectre x360 with Broadwell GT2 5500
integrated graphics.

Title:
Severe graphics regression with mainline kernel v4.7.5 on Broadwell
  5500U

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I would like to report a severe graphics regression, involving
frequent rainbow-glitching and flickering on a x64 computer with Intel
Broadwell 5500U processor w/ integrated graphics. This issue was not
present on kernel v4.7.4, which I will continue to use. Due to
unfortunate issues with Broadwell integrated graphics support,
virtually every kernel build in the 4.8 release chain as well as the
newest v4.7.5 kernel have this issue. Dramatic multicolored patches
and glitched areas appear frequently when using my computer with these
kernels installed. The behavior is very similar to that of the
Broadwell graphics issues present in kernel version 4.6.x. Please fix
this issue, I don't understand why NEWER kernels are actually causing
significant graphical problems with older hardware.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1584042] Re: Hyper-V NIC cannot pass IPv6 UDP packets by default until protocol offload is disabled

2016-09-24 Thread Max Chen
Just now, I was writing memo of the Ubuntu VM in Hyper-V, and read again
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server-docs/compute/hyper-v
/supported-ubuntu-virtual-machines-on-hyper-v , this time. I found that
"TCP Segmentation and Checksum Offloads" are available on Windows Server
operating system version " 2016, 2012 R2, 2012, 2008 R2". They do not
mention UDP's.

Title:
Hyper-V NIC cannot pass IPv6 UDP packets by default until protocol
  offload is disabled

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:

  Hi,

On a client server, I can't get a response from a name server in ipv6+udp. On
the same server, it works fine in tcp.
If I log on my name server, I can get a response from himself but, as a
client, it can't get a response from another name server.

here are the steps to reproduce :
  - Create a new server using Ubuntu server 16.04. Set it to use ipv4 and use
your preferred name server. Select absolutely nothing as functionality.
  - check some nslookup and apt-get stuff to verify network is OK
  - add ipv6 to the interface and refer to an IPV6 nameserver. I have 3 and
thats why I noticed the problem >> All 3 ipv6 nameservers are filling the 3
places in resolv.conf.
  - if you don't have 3 ipv6 nameservers, just add one and comment the line
with the ipv4 name server.
  - verify your resolv.conf. Should only content ipv6 reference.
  - Now, you can't nslookup anymore...
  - add some tests : "dig @ipv4server google.com" works but "dig @ipv6server
google.com" don't

  Here a more tests :

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1424088] Re: No resume on ThinkPad Helix -- system keeps sleeping

Title:
No resume on ThinkPad Helix -- system keeps sleeping

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
Lenovo ThinkPad Helix is a "Convertable Ultrabook" with an Intel
Core-M ("Broadwell") processor. The tablet can come off the dock-with-
keyboard and latch to it as a cover.

Attempting a suspend is apparently successful. The LED (on the back of
  the tablet pulsates).

But neither attaching the tablet in its open position nor pressing the
power button will wake the system to resume. The LED continues to
pulsate and the system continues to be unreachable by Ethernet.

As a "workaround" I can suspend with pm-suspend-hybrid and then when
it does not resume I can force power off and turn it back on. This
  causes it to thaw.

None of the pm-action "quirk" options helped.

  Description: Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS
  Release: 14.04
I have also tried Ubuntu 14.10.1 and it also has this issue.

The kernel message insists that I attach /sys/class/drm/card0/error
  but that file is empty.

Fan on full speed without noapic or nolapic on HP 6715s

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Without adding noapic or nolapic to boot parameters the fan will run
on full speed, the system is sluggish (can almost see windows
redrawing on screen). On some kernel versions tested, rebooting also
  fails.

The parameter(s) were not required in Trusty. I also tested some
Mainline kernels and discovered 3.19.8 and 4.0.9 works without the
parameters. At least 4.1.29 and onward requires noapic or nolapic for
this machine to work properly but I have yet to investigate the
  versions between 4.0.9 and 4.1.29.

Title:
Sound output starts several seconds late using DisplayPort with
[AMD/ATI] Tahiti XT HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 7970 Series] [1002:aaa0]

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  I am using simultaneously :
  - an audio headset connected to the analog audio output,
  - a DisplayPort cable to connect my display to my 'AMD Tahiti XT [Radeon HD
7970 ...]' graphics + sound card.

Using the 'Sound' panel of 'gnome-control-center', I systematically
get following behaviour for sound output :

  - If I choose the 'Line Out - Built-in Audio' device, the sound output comes
immediately :
For example, inside the 'Test Speakers' window, the correct sound
systematically starts as soon as I hit any 'Test' button (under 'Front Left' or
'Front Right').

  - But if I choose the 'HDMI / DisplayPort - Tahiti XT HDMI Audio [Radeon HD
7970 Series]' device, the sound output starts several seconds LATE :
For example, inside the 'Test Speakers' window, the sound starts at the
end of the 2nd time I hit any 'Test' button (under 'Front Left' or 'Front
Right'). Then continuous sound is correct and in sync.
But after approx. 10s of silence (no sound to output), new sound output
starts several seconds LATE again.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1605843] Re: Kernel crashes from time to time when using ftrace

2016-09-24 Thread Nikolay Borisov
This is still not fixed in the latest ubuntu kernel - 4.4.0-38-generic
#57-Ubuntu. Considering the low-impact of the fix is this going to go in
future 4.4 releases?

4.8 regression: SLAB is being used instead of SLUB

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in linux source package in Yakkety:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
We're seeing hundreds of kernel worker threads being spawned with some
actions, for example, after booting the desktop and hutting the
brightness keys causes this. On investigation, this occurs when
  CONFIG_SLAB is being used.

  1. Ubuntu traditionally uses CONFIG_SLUB, so we should use that instead of
CONFIG_SLAB (why was it changed for Yakkety?)
  2. With CONFIG_SLUB I cannot reproduce the issue of the hundreds for worker
threads
3 CONFIG_SLUB seems more performant on the boot too over SLAB.

Please re-enable the CONFIG_SLUB allocator as per the 4.4. Xenial
  configs.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1543179] Re: Audio does not get routed to BT headset/speaker

2016-09-24 Thread danilo
Same on my bq E5 hd (otq 13, as well as the previous 11.12 & 10, only ota9 was
fully working wella) paired with car kenwood kca bt200 hands free + hifi bt
interface.
Audio hici is working but with some glitch.
If a call is coming ( as,well as,generated) the system establish a connection,
as it sould be, but no call audio (neither micro is wotking) Bt volume is
different from zero. Need to switch manually to phone speaker to talk.
If the call is terminated, the bt system restarts to play music.

Audio does not get routed to BT headset/speaker

Status in Canonical System Image:
  In Progress
Status in bluez package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid
Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  STEPS:
  1. Flash the latest daily rc-proposed image to a phone
  2. Connect a bluetooth headset to the phone
  3. Connect a speaker to the phone.

  EXPECTED:
I expect the devices to connect and play audio

  ACTUAL:
Speakers just connect and instantly disconnect

Headsets don't get trusted and disconnect instantly, Once you trust it
and then turn the headset off and back on again it connect can accept
calls but the audio from both the mic and earpiece don't function.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1626564] Re: 4.8 regression: SLAB is being used instead of SLUB

2016-09-24 Thread Doug Smythies
Note: For kernel work, I only use and compile kernels from the main
kernel.org git branch. I steal the Ubuntu kernel configuration.

The issue of a high number of kworker threads does not exist in kernel 4.6, but
does in 4.7-rc1.
When using "SLUB" it is a little difficult to detect on my Yakkety test Laptop,
however it is fairly easy to detect on my 16.04 server. When using "SLAB" it is
trivial to detect on either computer.

A bisection is going to take:

"Bisecting: 5788 revisions left to test after this (roughly 13 steps)"

Which I can only get to on about Tuesday or Wednesday.

Title:

Xenial
  configs.

2016-09-24 Thread Neil
Sorry, I forget to tell that I have disable apparmor through kernel boot
parameter:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="apparmor=0"

you can try with it.
I will try to get kdump for further checking.

Bug description:
When trying to install they yakkety beta-2 candidate iso in a VM it
hangs on trying to mount the cdrom drive. Poking around, I find
there's no device node for the cdrom in /dev, and indeed no modules
for it. For my VM it seems I need at minimum drivers/scsi/sr_mod.ko
  and drivers/cdrom/cdrom.ko.

UBUNTU: [Config] CONFIG_BLK_DEV_SD=y,CONFIG_BLK_DEV_SR=y for all but
s390x

This could perhaps be =m with proper udeb support (which is now added in
the patch), but I'll leave it =y for now. Perhaps in 17.04.

  Binary package hint: dkms

Using the latest version of Oracle Virtual Box from their repositories, every
day I have to run /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup because the ubuntu DKMS package is
not doing it's job.
This bug also exists using the VirutalBox package from the Ubuntu
Repositories so this is not an Oracle Vbox error but a DKMS error.

  Expected behaviour
DKMS compiles the VirutalBox kernel driver automatically and recompiles
automatically at each kernel change then saves this kernel driver as a device
/dev/vboxdrv so that it's usable at each boot.

  What really happens:
The dkms package does not complie the driver or give access, so every time
the machine (HP tx2 1050ed laptop) reboots, the kernel driver has to be
compiled manually (at 7 minutes of lost productivity)

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1626269] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2016-09-24 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From hbath...@in.ibm.com 2016-09-24 08:25 EDT---
Dump filtering for kernels v4.7+ is failing because of kernel commit
0139aa7b7fa1
which changed _count to _refcount in struct page. The below makedumpfile tool
commit fixes this:

commit 2c21d4656e8d3c2af2b1e14809d076941ae69e96
Author: Vitaly Kuznetsov
Date: Fri Jun 17 18:41:26 2016 +0900

[PATCH v2] Support _count -> _refcount rename in struct page
_count member was renamed to _refcount in linux commit 0139aa7b7fa12
("mm: rename _count, field of the struct page, to _refcount") and this
broke makedumpfile. The reason for making the change was to find all users
accessing it directly and not through the recommended API. I tried
suggesting to revert the change but failed, I see no other choice than to
start supporting both _count and _refcount in makedumpfile.
Signed-off-by: Vitaly Kuznetsov

Hello, I see that the problem is still present on Ubuntu 16.04 x86_64 on
my Thinkpad T420. Can anybody confirm that? Also, what's the easiest
workaround at the moment? Thanks.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1445376] Re: A2DP skips when conneted to handsfree device

2016-09-24 Thread danilo
Hi all,
Me too Ican notice a great improvement by updating OTA13.
Many thanks fo make my phone being able to:
-pair immediantly with in-car hands free kac bt200.
-downloading and sync contacts phonebooks. I can also browse contacts from my
car dissplay controller, and start a call too.
- starting as well as receiving a call by ringing tone and muting car audi
systems.

But phone call audio still does not work. I neinther both direction.
I always need to switch manually from bt audio to phone internal speaker.

Always BQ E5 HD

Title:
A2DP skips when conneted to handsfree device

Status in Canonical System Image:
  Incomplete
Status in bluez package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
When I connect my Aquaris E4.5 to my car's handsfree device (Funkwerk
Ego Flash) via Bluetooth I experience a skipping problem when playing
  sound files through A2DP.

Half a second for each second there is a pause. The rest of that half
second seems to clear a buffer which results in "extra fast" audio.

To illustrate, listening to a podcast I would expect to hear something
like "bla bla bla". However, what I do get to hear sounds more like
  "flapflapflap - pause - flapflapflap - pause - ...".

When I connect my Aquaris to my A2DP speakers at home, the audio is
  perfect.

Also, handsfree telephony in my car works like a charm.

So I guess it's just the combination of A2DP while connected to the
handsfree device which causes the trouble.

In the past I've used several phones with the Funkwerk device (always
with handsfree *and* A2DP functionality) including an N900 running
Maemo. There have never been any problems with those.

  OS build number 21
  KRILIN01A-S15A_BQ_L100EN_2021_150410

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1415880] Re: 14e4:4365 bcmwl-kernel source: fix for null pointer crash

2016-09-24 Thread monochromec
Hi Karen,

The location of the patch directory is as outlined above on 16.04. Please
double-check that you have installed the correct version of the package (this
should
be 6.30.223.248+bdcom). Otherwise, please post the contents of your /usr/src
directory to progress
this further.

  [Impact]

   * bcmwl does not compile on new kernels (or HWE kernels)
   * bcmwl suffers from null reference bug

  [Test Case]

   * public PPA provided to community and feedback
   * based on patch available to other distros
   * comment #42

  [Regression Potential]

   * for changes on kernel support it may not compile (tested with 3.2, 3.13,
3.18 and 4.2)
   * for the null reference change -> proved to fix problem for community based
on feedback

  [Other Info]

  Original bug description:

The bcmwl package as of now misses one patch for a bug that occurs
with BCM43142 and possibly other broadcom chipsets that will look like
random disconnects, poor wifi signal and kernel warnings, See also
  #1379524.

Adding the patch is a fairly simple process:

  * put the patch file in /usr/src/bcmwl-6.30.223.248+bdcom/patches
  * add the following line to /usr/src/bcmwl-6.30.223.248+bdcom/dkms.conf
  PATCH[7]="0014-null-pointer-crash.patch"
  * run: /usr/lib/dkms/common.postinst bcmwl 6.30.223.248+bdcom
/usr/share/bcmwl x86_64 $(uname -r)

This has fixed the issue for me. Edit: I just wanted to add that I did
not write the patch; I merely downloaded it from a paste that was
linked from the respective AUR package.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1619679] Re: bcmwl-kernel-source 6.30.223.248+bdcom-0ubuntu0.1: bcmwl kernel module failed to build [error: ‘STATION_INFO_TX_BITRATE’ undeclared]

2016-09-24 Thread Oliver Bedford
I followed Guy Begin's advice (thanks!) and I can confirm that it does solve
the issue for me.
The issue persisted through at least two kernel updates. Currently running:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1626564] Re: 4.8 regression: SLAB is being used instead of SLUB

2016-09-24 Thread Doug Smythies
>From my experiments, it seems the issue is not 100% solved, but is much much
>much less probable.
On my Yakkety test Laptop, if I go back to kernel 4.4.0-9136-generic I can not
create the high number of kworker threads. If I boot with kernel
4.8.0-16-generic, I can create the high number of kworker threads, however it
is rather difficult.

Title:

Xenial
  configs.
