[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1827912] Re: [ASUS Z87I-DELUXE, Realtek ALC1150] Crackling sound
[Expired for linux (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1827912 Title: [ASUS Z87I-DELUXE, Realtek ALC1150] Crackling sound Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: Issue: Audio Crackling Video play back and during games seems to be when the issue is the worst. Scrolling on pages or hovering over UI objects also seems to trigger it too though Testing: There is crackling coming from any speakers (headsets or brand-new speakers with no known issues). Crackling does not seem to be related to audio (it can occur even with sound turned off in the sound-control menu). (it does stop when power to speakers are removed) Video play back and during games seems to be when the issue is the worst. Scrolling on pages or hovering over UI objects also seems to trigger it too though. The screen being on, or connected made no difference though. No change based on keyboard or mouse. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1543919] Re: Remove EISA support from main kernel image and make it M (modular)
Maybe there is a kernel option to avoid scanning for EISA buses ? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1543919 Title: Remove EISA support from main kernel image and make it M (modular) Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: (This is a sort of RfC. ) I have a PC that still has the good old PCI ports, but I am 100% sure that the active use of EISA dates back yet more 10 years. In other words, boards that _only_ support EISA date back 25 years now, while those that provide *one* EISA slot date back roughly 15 years (one of the Elitegroup K7 series comes to mind, from about 2001/02). So the EISA support *should* be provided, as we should even support ancient hardware (Linux principle :)) However, why the EISA support is *compiled in* is beyond me. For instance, it creates lots of totally unnecessary noise in dmesg: [0.08] EISA bus registered [1.598316] platform eisa.0: Probing EISA bus 0 [1.598345] platform eisa.0: Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 1 (repeated 10 times, i=i+1) [1.598368] platform eisa.0: EISA: Detected 0 cards For a 1997 mainboard, this would make perfect sense. But it is very probable that said mainboard would require linux-image-extra nonetheless to support some days-of-yore chipset. So why not leave it as a *module*, while removing its support from main kernel image once and for all? Your turn. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1665447] Re: kernel ppa is building amd64 files inside mainline ppc64el package
I know that these mainline builds are unsupported in any way, but there have been some efforts to quickly patch this problem for cross- compiling. Examples: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-ti- omap4/+bug/666267/comments/16 Also, I wrote up a quick hacky post-install script to workaround this issue, which works for arm64 mainline builds, here: https://gist.github.com/satmandu/b60a804fa2275615c88367bc68e4bad0 As a quick summary of the problem, it appears that these files are needed in the target architecture to build modules, but are in the cross-compile host architecture: scripts/recordmcount scripts/mod/modpost scripts/basic/fixdep "make scripts" does everything except make modpost, so I use "make modules_prepare" which errors out, but does make everything one needs. Oh, and unfortunately the packaging scripts seem to leave out these header files which are needed for the aforementioned compile process: security/selinux/include/classmap.h security/selinux/include/initial_sid_to_string.h tools/include/tools/be_byteshift.h tools/include/tools/le_byteshift.h So I download those first too. If any of that process could be eliminated, it would be appreciated. :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1665447 Title: kernel ppa is building amd64 files inside mainline ppc64el package Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Kernel PPA contains a files that are compiled against amd64 instead of ppc64el. Yep, they are coming from my ALC892. If you want to try to create a script to parse them, be my guest :) The only issue on Windows is that after the dump, the audio stack from Windows wasn’t responding; however that should not be an issue, if it’s simply a state change from the driver at boot up. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1801540 Title: Microphone distorted sound on ALC892/1220 on AMD chipsets Status in Linux: Confirmed Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Not sure if I'll report this upstream but there is definitely an issue with microphone recording on my desktop, this is not happening on my laptop which has a different codec. (In reply to Léo El Amri from comment #99) > ... > And Marco did preliminary work on this. The "jcs way" looks > promising to me, but surely it requires a lot of work. > ... Yea, I'm still trying to find the energy to begin to write a parser for the codec commands, but this will surely take quite a lot of time. Luckily on the ALC892 datasheets are available online, so even if it is a vendor defined command (assuming they exists, but I think that's the case) from Realtek, we should be able to identify it. The problem is that I can't find the strength to read ca 120 pages (between vendor and HDA spec) of commands right now and extrapolate a script to parse them :P Maybe later this year I'll be giving that a shot; but not right now. For now I'm adapting to use an external audio card; at least for voice chat, it's good enough for me. Frédéric Pierret was the first here to identify a possible origin for the problem. And Marco did preliminary work on this. The "jcs way" looks promising to me, but surely it requires a lot of work. I'm joining you on the fact that we might never get help from Realtek on this, but I don't think we should disregard community's effort :) On my side, I also have a Realtek ALC1220 codec Codec: Realtek ALC1220 Vendor Id: 0x10ec1220 Subsystem Id: 0x18492220 Revision Id: 0x100101 equipped on an ASRock B450 Gaming-ITX/ac motherboard ("AMD Promontory B450" chipset).
