Re: [Koha] KUDOS 2012
We have just been shot down. Due to lack of budgeting for KohaCon 2012 in our current fiscal year, our requests here at Rolling Hills Library to attend have been disapproved. I understand fully that the community is busily preparing to attend the conference in Scotland, and I sincerely wish everyone the best fun ever in the world. However, life goes on, and I am are now working on next year's budget, which for us runs from 1 July - 30 June. I am preparing line items for conferences my team would like to attend, and that would include KUDOS 2012. Is there any further discussion, noting some emails on the subject already, we could have about KUDOS 2012 that would facilitate my budget input? Hold it at all? Where? When? Is there an EG or regional meeting we could collaborate with? I guess I can't ask the questions without volunteering something. 1. OK, look, we could hold it here at Rolling Hill, but St. Joseph isn't the most exciting place in the world; I can't imagine attendance would be that good. 2. August? 3. I could volunteer to be Sergeant at Arms where ever it's held. 4. I could do a presentation/demo of either RaCHeL, our inhouse development of a children's playstation, or LibPAC*, our public access computer system. 5. If I do end up attending, either the library proper, or me personally, will donate $100 USD towards bagels and cool-aid. 6. Riverwalk in San Antonio? Chena Hot Springs**, Alaska? Denver? Douglas County, Co? New Orleans? (are there any Koha libraries in any of these places?) -- Greg Lawson Rolling Hills Consolidated Library 1912 N. Hi Greg, One option you could consider is to put in a bid to host KohaCon13. I too cannot afford to go to KohaCon12 because it is in the same financial year as KohaCon11 for us. Depending on when your financial year runs KohaCon13 might be in the right financial period for you. Cheers Jo. On 10 April 2012 04:14, G. Laws glaw...@rhcl.org wrote: We have just been shot down. Re: [Koha] KUDOS 2012
I am more than happy to host a regional meeting here. I was planning a late summer/early Fall regional New England Koha group. We have 3 Mainline Koha and 5-6 Liblime Libraries and several in the neighboring states. We have no infrastructure like Madison did, but we are close to an airport and have 2 hotels with buses...with a nice restaurant across the street. We are still in the middle of nowhere suburban Connecticut though. Details on the Regional meeting in a few days. Us host KohaCon13? In St. Joseph, Missouri? After New Zealand, India and Scotland? Tell you what, let's all get together in Bangkok, Thailand, from June 1 to June 30 for KohaCon 2013. Nothing in the KohaCon charter says it has to be held near a Koha library, right? I can get there in mid-May and make all the arrangements, and stay till mid-July for cleanup. Hehe Seriously though, it's probably the US turn again, 2009 Plano was the last one, so I would seriously think about a Kohacon13 in the USA. Also there are Koha libraries in Thailand .. I think we'd have to go to Antartica to get away from them :) Also regional ones are a great idea, the NZ Koha users group is going to be having its second ever meeting sometime in the nearish future. New OrleansSan AntonioMiami...San Fransisco Big cities are expensive, how about Lawrence Kansas .. home of NEKLS Chris PS Volunteering unsuspecting people is my thing I disagree heartily with the cities are more expensive thing. Not in the face! I was a rural Library duhrector. I would concur in the case of New York City. Apart from that, some of the most expensive places I've visited have been in the middle of nowhere. By the time you add in the extra money and time that it takes to get to Bumpass, Virginia to stay in its one hotel (read no competition is a BAD thing) you're wishing you had your conference some place a little more on the beaten track. San Antonio is most certainly NOT expensive. Neither is NOLA. Miami gets there depending on season. LBA suggested someplace out in Cali at some point in the past, and I thought Oh wow, that'd be nice... That said, CT could easily work, and someone wants to do it. Bonus :) If people sat on me and held my arms, I might eventually relent and find someplace to give us a home in the Capital District.
