[lace] Sweet Briar College to Stay Open
Our Arachne members, Elizabeth Kurella and Clay Blackwell will be celebrating! We've had recent Arachne correspondence about this College in Virginia, because an important private lace collection was donated to it for the academic use of students. Elizabeth had arranged this transfer of lace several years ago. Clay has organized Lace at Sweet Briar programs for several years. Members of Arachne had written how much they enjoyed these lace classes, the teachers, and the college facilities. Buried deep in today's Maine Sunday Telegram is an Associated Press news story: *Settlement sustains women's college in rural Virginia*. This reports that the Virginia attorney general announced a mediated settlement Saturday to keep Sweet Briar College open, using $12-million raised by determined alumnae to keep the college afloat in the upcoming academic year and sweeping out leadership of the 114-year-old school. It will be presented to a judge on Monday, June 22, for his approval and final settlement. For current information, you can plug the College's name into your Search site (such as G**gle) for the next few days/weeks. Lace-related background information is in our Arachne archives. Re: [lace] Weather and Holidays
Hello to One and All! Correct me if 'm wrong. Wasn't the discussion about International Lace Day, today (which also is Father's Day in the US) and the effects of the weather. Granted I would have several things to go to, one would be making lace at an outdoor event, but when it will be 110*F/43C*, I'm not leaving the house. And then there are folks on this list, wonder why not many post to the list when they are reprimanded for doing so both on and off the list. (I had been reamed a new one by a "member" off the list. So I don't post much.)  That's why you get the same people posting.  Fortunately there are other lists out there that are not so strict.  Hugs, Susie Rose  My stores: https://www.zibbet.com/SusieRoseDesigns https://www.zibbet.com/MountainRoseFoods https://SusieRose.Blujay.com Group: ufo12fo...@yahoogroups.com Blog: http://fiberismybag.wordpress.com On 20 Jun 2015 3:07 pm, Web wrote: > > Ladies and Gents, > I would like to suggest that discussions of the weather and holidays (such as when Father's Day happens) are more appropriate for the lace chat email group than for the lace group. > Thank you, > Liz R. > Raleigh USA > > - > To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: > unsubscribe lace y...@address.here.
