Re: [lace] Shawl finished
What a lovely gift, she is going to Love it. Thank you for the pictures:-) Sue T Dorset, UK, cold but sunny Last night I finished a Torchon shawl for my daughter for Christmas. When I started it 2 moths ago, I was not sure whether it would be for Christmas 2011 or 2012, but I did it, and am quite pleased with the result. The material was a mixture of alpaca wool, silk and rayon in lace weight. Not the easiest to work with at it is very slippy and I used standard English bobbins with spangles. I have uploaded some photos on Webshots in the Arachne album. Go to : webshots; log in as Arachne 2003 and password is honiton. Back to my Chantilly practice pieces now. Ok...Agnes, where do you find pillows large enough to do a piece so big? I would love to try to convert a "yardage" pricking to a large version made with lace weight wool...(or maybe #10 crochet thread?) I could think of a number of patterns that would make gorgeous shawls LOL Cearbhael -Original Message- From: owner-l...@arachne.com [mailto:owner-l...@arachne.com] On Behalf Of Janis Savage Sent: Friday, December 16, 2011 6:07 AM To: Arachne Subject: Re: [lace] Shawl finished What a beautiful shawl Agnes. Re: [lace] Shawl finished
I made myself a very large roller pillow to work large scale patterns on. I used a roll of the insulating stuff for putting underneath wallpaper, it's like a thin sheet of styrofoam. I think it was called Warmaline or something like that. It came from a DIY store. That was the roller and for the rest of the pillow I used three slabs of polystyrene glued together and hacked about with a carving knife. A job best done outside as the bits get everywhere! After that it was just a case of manipulating the cover fabric to fit. I have made several scarves, a sweater in strips and currently have a table runner on it and the roller is holding up well.
