The plugini is initialized but he never got an answer from his provider, mostly this is a configuration error. Common Pitfalls are : Software : A) eth0 in interfaces config as auto and dhcp ( should be commented out if this it the interface that is used by ppp0 B) shorewall interfaces net ppp0 and not net eth0 ( as is default) C) shorewall masq ppp0 eth1 ( allthough this has no influence on the connection from the firewall to the net) D)shorewall configuration CLAMPMSS=yes ( this cause failures in established connections on loading "larger files /pages " ) E) Password and or user settings F) Comment all pty "pppoe ------- " lines out in pppoe options file. Hardware wrong type of module Wrong Cable . some modems use a crossover cable. other use a "normal patch cable". Problems at the other (provider) side of the connection. Sometimes the "endpoint" are in error state and need to be resetted. Other ( i didn't think of ;) ) If Sending PADI is the last message you have got than the hardware or the eth0 versus ppp0 setting is the most probable. So check the configuration again. Try it with a known working cable. I had a problem with a 3c509b card on bering too , if a remind correctly it is a isapnp card. so you might have to set the interupts Regards Eric member of the bering crew Normally the provider sends a PADO packet as soon as the PADI is received > Nov 15 23:17:45 firewall pppd[7330]: invalid packet Ether addr: > 14:22:f0:bf:6c:8f PPPoE hdr: ver=0xf type=0x9 code=0x11 sid=0x002b > length=0x5422 (Unknown) PPPoE tag: type=f0bf length=6c8f (Unknown) > unrecognized data > Nov 15 23:17:45 firewall pppd[7330]: Failed to negotiate PPPoE connection: 4 > Interrupted system call > Nov 15 23:17:45 firewall pppd[7330]: Exit. > > The config file are ok, he has the same as me.
