[LU] Offside

2021-06-13 Thread Robert Heath
I was utterly bemused by Lukaku's goal last night being allowed.

Lukaku was clearly offside when the ball was played towards him by his
teammate, and the flag in a normal world should then have shot up rendering
what the gumby defender did irrelevant.

But if this is the rule, then Wes Brown's og in the last minute at Elland
Road (disallowed b/c Alan Smith was behind him in an offside position)
should have stood.

Thanks Jim for confirming I'm not seeing things! I looked over to the
linesman as soon as howson got played in and the flag went straight
up. I didn't celebrate the 'goal' at all!

I saw the flag go up as soon as he touched the ball. I then watched

muttering to everyone around me that it was offside, THEN everyone
said the linesman flagged.

Can only imagine the linesman flagged, lowered his flag, and then
flagged again, or I was just seeing things.

Either way, it looked like a close call, but was the opposite end of
the ground for me.

The only explanation is that he flagged, put it down and then flagged
again.

He DEFINITELY flagged pretty much straight away when howson was put
in. Which is why I didn't celebrate the goal.

Rule’s changed since that goal. Now each phase is looked at individually.

Agree it’s nonsense. If the defender lets it under his leg he’s offside.

I always thought Smith was level with the last defender, anyway. The ref was
never going to allow us to win that.

2010-12-05 Thread DAVID NATTAN
Watching the goals on BBC prog last night I noticed how the Palace defender
looked at lino and then started to chase Howson, then looked at lino again and
stopped. This tends to sugest that flag was down when he first looked and was
therefore a 'late flag'
Not that it matters at all -lino can flag whenever he wants and it was
certainly before Howson put it in the net. Don't get a decent angle of Howson
and defenders when ball kicked but he did look offside
None of it matters now WE WON !!! and deserved it.
Also on TV noticed what a lovely flick it was from Snoddy to McCormack for
second goal to put  McC  through if he had not been pulled back - so congrats
to ref for allowing play to go on and Becchio to score (thought keeper dived
over it and should have done better)
Roll on Burnley - one of the few aways I am going to these days

Yeah it was a pretty tame shot from Becchio , side footed right at the keeper
he did dive over it. Still went in we won and I'm £20 down.
