If you do care, pay attention to the webinars. This Friday is a webinar
just about cloud services.

You don't say HOW you are sharing. Does each computer use a different
Dropbox account? When you are on the laptop, do you try to retrieve the
file using a web browser? Or did you double-click the Dropbox icon on
the taskbar and look for it in your 'My Dropbox' folder?

The only thing I can think of is that Dropbox was still sync'ing when
you looked.

Or maybe you see it at home because you have LAN sync turned on? But
when you are not at your home you are not on the same LAN?

Re: [LegacyUG] Need help for merging files

2012-07-24 Thread Sherry/Support
Cherie,

First, let's understand what you want to do...

You *import* one file into another - the gedcom or PAF is imported
into your Legacy Family File.

Then you *merge* the duplicates in that file.

Howeverwe recommend that you import the PAF or gedcom file into a
*new* Legacy Family File. Then after doing that, clean up the file -
run File > File Maintenance > Check/Repair, run the Potential Problems
Report, verify the spellings in the Master Surname List and Master
Location List, etc.

After doing this, back up your main Family File (File > Backup Family
File) then import the new one into that file (File > Import from... >
Legacy File), if you want all that data in it. You may only want some
of the individuals, in which case your best bet would be to use the
Split Screen Drag and Drop feature.

You'll find information on importing, merging and using Split Screen
on our website www.LegacyFamilyTree.com > Help Center > Tips, as well
as in the Help file in Legacy.

Sincerely,
Sherry

[LegacyUG] Dropbox problem

2012-07-24 Thread Jenny M Benson

This isn't strictly speaking on topic, so if anyone can help please do so
via a private e-mail, NOT via the mailing list.

I have to be away from my computer for a couple of weeks, but have access
to my sister's laptop, so I backed up my Legacy family file to Dropbox,
along with several other folders of genealogy stuff. When I opened
Dropbox on the laptop my family file (zip) wasn't there! I was able to go
home to-day and try again - and when I opened Dropbox there was my Legacy
family file backup!

Just to be on the safe side, I backed up the family file again, with a
slightly different name. Once again, opening Dropbox on the laptop the
Legacy file is not there, although another file I copied there to-day is
there. I have even logged in to Dropbox on the web and my Legacy file is
not showing up.

I shall have severe withdrawal symptoms if I can't access my file and get
on with my research! Can anyone suggest what is going on?
