[LegacyUG] Suggestion for Too Many Emails

2017-09-10 Thread Jill A Baty
Create an email using gmail or yahoo that is only dedicated for Legacy User
Group.

Don't look at it until you need to. Then either ask a question, or search
through the previous emails to find your answer.

I use this approach with my "advertisement email". It's dedicated to ads. I
never look at it until I'm going to a store or shopping for something in
particular. Then I search and see if there are any coupons availble.

Best Regards,
Jill

Re: [LegacyUG] Unsubscribe, please!!

2017-09-10 Thread Wendy Howard
If you don't know how to set a filter in Gmail to do this, or in any
other email program/service you're using, there will be instructions in
the Help files for that program/service to show you how. Microsoft call
them rules, instead of filters, but they're the same thing -
instructions on what to do with your incoming mail.

I also wrote some instructions for another mailing list and put them on
my web site years ago. You can adapt it to any mailing list.
http://freepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~wendyh65/How-to.htm#RuleFilter

Using a filter this way takes the mailing list mail out of your Inbox,
so it's not mixed up with your personal mail, and keeps it out of the
way until you are ready to read it.

Hope this helps.  :-)

Digests are a nuisance. People respond to a message and don't dont
trim post. Therefore, the entire digest gets sent to the entire list.
After several replies you've got multiple copies of the digest getting
sent every time and one hot mess. And even if someone does properly
trim, it breaks the message threading for everyone.

I noticed you have a Gmail accountl. The easiest solution is to create
a filter that puts all the list's messages under the same label
(folder). You can tell it to bypass the inbox so it keeps the inbox
uncluttered.

Glória,

GedSite (www.gedsite.com) does not create trees that
look exactly like MyHeritage, but they are not lists, either. GedSite creates
"person pages" for each person in the GEDCOM file, but it also allows you to
add custom pages. Those pages can contain charts (with several variations
available), stories, etc. It also includes a search feature where a visitor can
match people based on name, spouse's name, or parent's names. There are too
many other features to list here, but you can check it out via the website
indicated above.

Donna,

When GedSite is unregistered, it is limited to making a site for the first 10
people in the GEDCOM file. That's the only "demo" capability using your own
data.

No, there isn't.

There really aren't that many messages to the LUG like there used to
be. It really slowed down after they started the Facebook User Group,
but kept the LUG list going since so many people don't use Facebook.
