RE: [LegacyUG] Legacy 8.0 Questions

2013-12-14 Thread Dale Carmack
Thanks all,

I had not expanded it to 100% nor tried to print it. The original is very old
and also a small picture. I'm not sure scanning again would help. I'll have
to investigate photo shopping.

The System option on the Ribbon is there only in some of the available styles
for the Ribbon. Geoff uses one of those styles.
Click the Design in the upper right and select styles. Select one of the Office
2010 styles or the Windows 7 Scenic style to get the System to show.

The Office 2007 styles and System do not have the System, instead the options
from the System ribbon item are on the big blue L icon.

You could attach it as a "File" rather than a "Picture" so that it opens in
your Windows default jpg program.

Opening your original in Irfanview at 69% of full size I see the same
lines in the image as in the legacy quicklook screen shot. When I
enlarge your original to 100 % the lines disappear but the graininess of
the original image is more apparent.

That said, your original is not very good quality, which exacerbates the
problem -- it looks like a scan of a half tone print and could stand
some photoshopping to remove the noise and blur the dot a bit.

Legacy Quick Look uses a very rudimentary image viewer (and always has).
Large images will generally show okay as the flaws in rendering are
hidden by the compressed size. The closer the original is to the on
screen rendered size, the worse the degradation. I have hundreds of tack
sharp images that look, in Quick Look, like second generation xerox
copies of old newspaper prints. There is nothing at all that can be
done; its all just on your screen -- the image will print correctly in
reports and show fine on web pages. Just don't bother with them in program.

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy 8.0 Questions

2013-12-12 Thread Cathy Pinner
Hi Dale,

Brian has answered your first query.

Re your picture problem.

I've never seen this.

Can you send me the pic privately?

and I'll take a look.

Cathy

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy 8.0 Questions

2013-12-12 Thread Brian/Support
The System option on the Ribbon is there only in some of the available
styles for the Ribbon. Geoff uses one of those styles.
Click the Design in the upper right and select styles. Select one of the
Office 2010 styles or the Windows 7 Scenic style to get the System to show.

The Office 2007 styles and System do not have the System, instead the
options from the System ribbon item are on the big blue L icon.

[LegacyUG] Legacy 8.0 Questions

2013-12-12 Thread Dale Carmack
I have several questions regarding Legacy 8.0 so far. I've noticed on
several of the videos that Geoff has a different menu selection above the
Ribbon (to the left of File, Edit, etc) called System. This is not on my
screen and I cannot figure how to display it. Any ideas?

A problem I have is that several pictures I try to add to the media appear
blurred, or have streaks through them. When the same picture is opened in
all other picture viewers it appears normal, including other genealogy
programs. It's only in Legacy that it looks this way. I suspect it's due
to the original file scan as this was a small B&W photo. However, the scan
opens and looks fine (no streaks) in other program and displays normally.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks
