This is not a valid bug report. Without information what source text causes th
crash we can do nothing

@reporter:
Thank you for your report – unfortunately important information is missing.
May be hints on will help you to
find out what information will be useful to reproduce your problem? If you
believe that that is really sophisticated please as for Help on a user mailing
list
Please:
- Write a meaningful Summary describing exactly what the problem is
- Attach a sample document (not only screenshot) or a link to a source
- Attach screenshots with comments if you believe that that might explain the
problem better than a text comment. Best way is to insert your screenshots
into a DRAW document and to add comments that explain what you want to show
- Contribute a step by step instruction containing every key press and every
mouse click how to reproduce your problem (due to example in Bug 43431)
– if possible contribute an instruction how to create a sample document
  from the scratch
- add information
-- concerning your PC (video card, ...)
-- concerning your OS (Version, Distribution, Language)
-- concerning your LibO version and localization (UI language, Locale
setting)
–- Libo settings that might be related to your problems
(video hardware acceleration ...)
-- how you launch LibO and how you opened the sample document
-- everything else crossing your mind after you read linked texts

Even if you can not provide all demanded information, every little new
information might bring the breakthrough.

May be you can test for submitting
bug reports?

We had some font related problems (Bug 46923, Bug 45355, ), this might be
something similar.

@Phillip Ross:
Can you please reduce contents that has to be copied to the "real problem" and
check whether CALC also will be affected?

The concept of the Assisstant allows to read Help texts from the Wiki.
Currently that's only used for the Subcomponents Help.
I recommend an additional info line below the Heading ("Thank you for using
LibreOffice, we regret ...) with latest news like "We know the 'no recent
documents' problem, see Bug ...".
Such text can be taken from a (protected) Wiki page, what would allow quick
reaction.

I got some feedback of the developer of the Clipboarder tool, I believe LibO
3.5 vulnerability concerning bad interaction should be checked, because there
was no problem with 3.4

Author's feedback:

Hi,
I'm the author of that program and I'm afraid it's your bug anyway. Clipboarder
retrieves all clipboard data when the clipboard is changed. Since you obviously
use delayed rendering your program recieves a WM_RENDERFORMAT message for every
format as soon as it sets the clipboard and then somehow screws up your
internal data structures while processing that message. It may look like it's
the fault of clipboarder, but in fact any program can read the clipboard at any
time. It's just kind of unusual that clipboarder reads out all clipboard
formats, but I can't fix it on my side without using dirty hacks...
(BTW your clipboard data loses information when restarting the application and
you have some high-dpi scaling bugs.)

Ciao
Helmut

It makes sense to reuse user's knowledge. If user learned something useful in
one program, IMHO it is useful to allow to him/her use it in another program.

Now we have enough knowledge about how this should be. Let we see how it will
be implemented.
Thanks for idea. And thanks in future for implementing.

gzipped strace of the crash

Yes, I can do everything I want in /tmp. The attached file is a gzipped strace
which shows that a temp file is unlinked from /tmp just before the Ioexception
is launched.

I must admit that I do not know Libreoffice Base. I tried to reproduce by
creating some new databases, but they did not crash.

I'm not the original author of the failing database, but the original author is
saying me that even old backup files of this database are crashing in the same
way.

The size of the database is 579K. It contains names, addresses, phone numbers
and other details. Can I send it on your mail rather that attach it on the
public place ?

Thanks.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 47685] New: Editing: When editing the Structure line of the Entries page in the Insert Index/table dialogue, the Right-scroll arrow does not work.

2012-03-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon

 Bug #: 47685
Summary: Editing: When editing the Structure line of the
Entries page in the Insert Index/table dialogue, the
Right-scroll arrow does not work.
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.4.5 release
  Platform: x86 (IA32)
OS/Version: Windows (All)
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: clicks...@yahoo.co.uk

Created attachment 58836
  --> https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=58836
Explanation with screenshots.

To observe this bug, either edit an existing TOC or any other index inserted
into Writer. Alternatively, begin the process of creating one. It doesn't
matter if you start with a blank new document.
I'll describe this option here.
In a new Writer document, select:
Insert > Indexes and Tables > Indexes and Tables from the menu bar.
In the Type selection box, accept the default or select from the list. This
choice is immaterial. Select the Entries tab.
If, from the choice of Type you made, there are insufficient entries on the
Structure line to cause the scroll arrows to be active, simply click in the
white space in the line and then add an element from the available buttons
below the line. Repeat this a few times to bulk out the line.
If you now attempt to scroll with the right arrow, the action is as if the left
scroll arrow was pressed.
Click in white space in the line, and you can now scroll right with the
keyboard arrow. Having scrolled with this, you can now use the left scroll
arrow on the Structure to scroll back again.

See the attached document for an explanation with screen shots.

I have rolled back to v3.4.5 (Build 502) and now all the SVG is exported as

Sorry I spoke about /tmp without telling why.
When I took a look to gdb bt, I saw functions which are linked to temp file (if
I'm not wrong).
Can you check you can create a not empty file on /tmp ?
Just type this :
echo 'test OK' > /tmp/testfile
then this to check :
cat /tmp/file
You should see 'test OK' on screen.

Just to be sure, do you reproduce this just with this database ?
For example, what's the result with another one (with the same type if
possible) ?

I can make this happen with a one-character file. The character is an
upside-down delta from the "symbols" font. It is called a "del" by
mathematicians. I do something funky to it: I highlight the character and
convert it to Times New Roman. The del remains there (even though there is no
such special character listed in Times New Roman), but I can type after it
without my font becoming "symbols". Anyway, I will attach the document if I
can figure out how.

Hardly. Mozilla is currently rewriting the tool. Litmus is pretty much dead, as

(In reply to comment #5)
> Using as a WORKAROUND:
> {} newline {}
> is acceptable in the all the cases mentioned in the Description.

Not always "{} newline {}". You use {} when you need to provide the missing
operand of a binary operator. For example,

a+b_ij newline = c+d # left-hand side is missing at the second line
a+b_ij newline {} = c+d # add {} - OK

a+b_ij = newline c+d # right-hand side is missing at the first line
a+b_ij = {} newline = c+d # add {} - OK

And from my point of view, the requirement - "provide all operands, otherwise
there will be the flipped question mark" - is simply awful, it would be a great
improvement to get rid of it. newline's behavior will be much more intuitive.

I expect "paste in overwrite mode" to behave exactly as if I had typed the text
that I'm pasting, thus it should overwrite the existing text.

Your answer means that the behavior of pasting text should not depend on the
"overwrite" setting, which to my mind is just an arbitrary limitation. Maybe
there's a consensus on this, but I'm not aware of it.

Confirmed. (Windows XP)

Works fine with LibO 3.3.4 and LibO 3.4.5.

Very slow with LibO 3.5.1, especially loading the created DOC-file: seconds
with LibO 3.3.4 and 3.4.5, several minutes with 100% CPU load with LibO 3.5.1.

This is a regression.

ODT for HTML export

When exporting an ODT file with tables (see attached example) to HTML by using
File -> Save as... -> HTML document (OpenOffice.org Writer) the exported HTML
file has its outer table borders set to none or 0px or something like that if
the table has only vertical OR horizontal lines in its grid.

Steps to reproduce:

1) Open attached TableExportExample.odt
2) Click File -> Save as...
3) Select HTML document from the dropdown list
4) Save
5) Open exported HTML file in Mozilla Firefox (MS Internet Explorer is not
interpreting the tables correctly, hence showing the borders incorrectly)
6) Compare HTML view to ODT view

Sorry about the duplicate comment.

After reading the following pages, I see that LO behavior with .PPS files is
intentional:
http://en.libreofficeforum.org/node/390
http://www.presentationhelper.co.uk/Forum/powerpoint-questions-answers/1595-automatically-open-ppt-attachment-slideshow-mode.html

I changed the status to RESOLVED.
A separate bug report is needed for the handling of .PPSX files.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 47526] Impress crashes when a particular PPS presentation is ended

2012-03-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47526

--- Comment #5 from m8r-19j...@binkmail.com 2012-03-21 10:43:27 PDT ---
I tested about 10 different .PPS files containing sound and pictures (some have
effects too), and LO has the same behavior on all of them. Therefore, LO
behavior is related to the .PPS file extension. It also appears that any .PPS
file would produce this behavior, but it would be good for someone to test with
a .PPS file that does not contain sound or pictures.

I also tested with a .PPTX file, which behaves in LO like the .PPT file.
However, when I rename it to have a .PPSX extension, LO treats it like .PPTX
and .PPT.

Since Julien Nabet did not find evidence of a crash, I considered that LO is
designed intentionally to automatically present .PPS files as a slide show and
automatically close LO when the slide show is ended. However, LO does not
treat .PPSX files the same as .PPS.

The problem is either:
a) LO crashes or auto-closes .PPS files when the slide show is ended.
b) With .PPSX files, LO does not automatically start in Slide Show mode, nor
does LO auto-close when the slide show is ended.

It would be helpful if someone who has Microsoft Office installed could report
its behavior with .PPT, .PPS, .PPTX and .PPSX files on opening and when the
slide show is ended.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 45789] automatic row height in reports

2012-03-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45789

--- Comment #7 from Lionel Elie Mamane 2012-03-21 10:39:23

(In reply to comment #5)
> And now I have another question: what wrong if we do this behaviour as
> default.

Well, a row (cell) could take far too much space and fuckup the layout
(depending on how the layout is done).

Whether the "fit to size" thing is desirable depends on the data being shown...
FWIW, in MS Access, one can choose this kind of thing per-control (AutoGrow and
AutoShrink). This allows to do e.g.:

 Name Number Data
 Eleonor 1short data
 Lionel M 2 short data
Ted3 long data, blah, blah word
  wrap, lorem ispsum doloret
  ma Pete non dolet.
Bruce4 long data, blah, blah word
 Willis wrap, lorem ispsum doloret
  ma Pete non dolet.

when the name of number one is really "Eleonora Battista Almeire", number 2
"Lionel Mamane" and number 3 just "Ted". As a short prefix of the name is all
that one needs to disambiguate between rows, one does not want to waste space
(neither horizontal, nor vertical) to show full name, so that the rows take as
many lines as the data needs. Short data -> one line even if name is long, and
long data -> many rows even if name is short. If many rows anyway, *do* use the
extra space for word-wrapping the name.

I don't quite see a way to achieve that with LibO, but at least we can put a
per-row (instead of per-control) choice, which is already better than the
current.

So, really, it should be an option. The *default* state of that option could be
"enabled", that's up for discussion.

 Bug #: 47667
Summary: [EasyHack] create chart test documents
Classification: Unclassified

  Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Chart
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: markus.mohrh...@googlemail.com

Development around chart issues is right now a bit limited because we are
missing a good set of test documents to prevent regressions. We should create a
set of test documents that can be used to test as much chart features as
possible to prevent adding regressions when fixing bugs.

These test documents will be also used in a automatic test concept that checks
that charts are imported correctly.

This task does not require any development knowledge just a bit of time and a
bit motivation to play with different chart features in calc.
