The transition from Openoffice to Libreoffice for me was dramatic, since the
introduction of the new mode of management of empty cells, no longer recognized
the value 0, has meant that all the spreadsheets that I have created in recent
years (so many sheets) may be corrupted.

This document is a Corel Draw x6 document, where the new way of keeping
character properties started: in a string that looks a bit xml-ish. We are not
yet supporting that way of keeping them :(
So, more of a feature request then a bug, a workaround could be to save in some
version like x3 file-format and there the sizes should be read right.

When writer inserts a blank page, it come out completely blank, leaving the

I am attaching a writer document with two 'right' pages and a PDF of it with

It would be nice if the automatically insert page uses the same page style as
the previous page and with a configurable water mark (global for the document).

This appears to be a regression. My colleague exported without crashing using
LibreOffice 3.5.5.3 build 7122e39-92ed229-498d286-15e43b4-d70da21 on, I think,
Windows 7.

The document in question is a specification so anonymizing it is not an
applicable course. Unfortunately the organization which publishes it does not
wish to release the source publicly. I will send it privately to one of the
suggested people once I have confirmation from the organization that it is OK
to do so.

It crashes for me every time so I don't think you'll have any trouble
reproducing the problem, once I send you the document.

By the way, I'm using 3.6.1.2 on Mac OS X 10.7.5.

On Oct. 3 I saved the Libre Office Calc spreadsheet called "Water Diary". I
then tried to close the program by clicking on the red X in the upper right

the page said, "not responding". Then there was a Windows Update.
Today, Oct. 3, I used a previous version of the file from Oct. 2 that is stored

It restored the file Water Diary to Oct. 2 version, but I get your "Recovery

The more simple:
remove any confidential data and send it but since you consider you can't...

If in your company you have a workstation with Linux or use a Linux Livecd, you
may retrieve an useful backtrace by following this link:
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport#How_to_get_backtrace_.28on_Linux.29

If you can't/don't want, I'm not a dev, just a simple contributor but I can
retrieve a backtrace with symbols if you send the file to me.

Rainer: if you have other ideas in cases like this, don't hesitate :)

This is due to an unfortunate chain of things:

1 For LO 3.5, ec4f69493b50c15861b0cdcc290ecedd00efb51d "removed Simple Handles
option" and 6ea8ea456cf5df267284278ecda42aa9b089a682 "Remove Large Handles
option" remove use of some SimpleControlPoints and LargeControlPoints
configuration properties. However, the way those changes are made in
sw/source/ui/config/usrpref.cxx, SwLayoutViewConfig::Commit when called will
write nil values for those properties into user/registrymodifications.xcu.
(Only bbd638350fb83af2cadd85cdac2900de80bf7401 "remove gaps in options and
reduce by two" later fixed that for LO 3.6.)

2 For LO 3.6, e8bb827571f540ac4af2247cb11239bb96876669 "Fixed cppheader.xsl
nillable treatment" changes the nil-ability of many configuration properties
that should never be nil in practice (i.e., their schemas already supply a
non-nil default value) from the poorly chosen default "nil-able" to "not
nil-able," as that makes using the newly introduced autogenerated C++
configuration access code less error-prone.

3 When configmgr reads an xcu file and reads a nil value for a property that
cannot be nil, it abandons reading that file, effectively ignoring the rest of
the file's data.

4 Whether a user/ directory has already been populated with default files is
controlled by configuration property
/org.openoffice.Setup/Office/ooSetupInstCompleted. If that property is not
true, LO will copy files from presets/ to user/, even overwriting already
existing files (and then set the property to true in
user/registrymodifications.xcu; as items are listed lexicographically in
user/registrymodifications.xcu, /org.openoffice.Setup/... comes near the end,
after all the /org.openoffice.Office/... stuff).

5 Now, if (1) has ever caused a LO 3.5 user/registrymodifications.xcu to
contain nil values for those Simple/LargeControlPoints, migration to LO 3.6
will cause LO to stop reading user/registrymodifications.xcu once it sees such
a nil value. This means that LO does not read the value "true" for
ooSetupInstCompleted, thinks the user/ directory has not yet been populated,
and overwrites various existing files in user/ with defaults from presets/.

The quickest fix is to make those Simple/LargeControlPoints properties (which
are no longer used anyway) nil-able again.

I think I know what your problem is - very common are documents that are really
DOC+DOCX in ONE file. LibreOffice thinks they are "corrupt". The quick fix is
to rename the file into just .DOCX.

I can also reproduce it on 3.6.1.2.

Furthermore, when you click "No" on this corruption dialog libreoffice asks you
again and again something about 10 times, and finally it opens the file :)

It looks like so that there is a loop over all the formats somewhere in the
code :)

Hello All,

thanks for getting on the topic here.

Sorry about the "BASIC" I don't know why I choosed that, it was misleading.
There is no scripting involved.

I removed the old LibreOffice with AppZapper (deleted user configs) and
installed 3.6.2 (LibO_3.6.2_MacOS_x86_install_en-US.dmg), and opened the
problematic .docx file and I was able to save as.

I quit, started LO again, opened the .doc file, tried to save as, got the
windows if I want to save as .doc or .odf, clicked on Use MS Word crashed.
Repeated, crashed again.

As the files are larger then allowed, please find all of them in a .zip here:

Let me know if you need any other information

Text with a frame anchored to a character

If you insert a frame anchored to a character in a paragraph, the frame is
eventually moved to the beginning of the paragraph if the paragraph also
contains text deleted with "track/record changes" enabled.

Steps to reproduce:

Open an ODT document.
Insert a frame anchored with a character in the middle of a paragraph. (The
frame is to be displayed horizontally aligned with the character, for example
in the margin.)
Turn on track changes, "show changes" enabled.
Delete some text in the paragraph containing the frame.
Save the file or disable "show tracked changes" and re-enable it.
The frame will move to the beginning if the paragraph.

again. This switch causes the described defect.
- Switching the change tracking show mode off and on again causes the same
defect.
- Occurs since OOo 1.0

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 52229] EDITING: FORMATTING destroyed after Copy/Paste Text from Adobe Reader

2012-10-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=52229

Thank you very much for your detailed report!

I tried to reproduce this LibreOffice 3.5.7.1 and 3.6.2.2 (no difference!) and
Adobe Reader 10.1.4 on Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Intel). Results:

at 1) I can reproduce something similar to issue (1), but with a little
difference: for me, all non-ASCII characters are replaced by simple dots (.). I
can confirm that pasting the text as as unformatted text avoids this: all
special characters are treated correctly.

It is an interesting question if this is a bug in Adobe Reader or in LibO. When
I paste the text copied from Adobe Reader into TextEdit (as formatted text), I
see the same dots instead of non-ASCII characters; if I paste the text into a
document of an application which does not support any formatting (BBEdit), all
special characters are treated correctly.

So I think this is a bug in Adobe Reader, which copies the text two times to
the clipboard, once formatted and once as raw text, and damages all special
characters in the formatted copy.

ad 2) I agree, this cannot be a bug in Reader. But: I cannot reproduce this
issue at all; for me, the text is inserted exactly at the right position, i.e.,
where the caret is.

So this issue is either specific to LibO for Windows, or it has been fixed in
LibreOffice 3.5.7.1 and 3.6.2.2.

ad 3) I can reproduce this; I wonder why LibO uses Liberation Serif when I
can’t find the font “BA+TimesNewRomanPSMT”.

@ stfhell:
Can you please check if you can still reproduce issue (2) in LibreOffice
3.5.7.1 and 3.6.2.2?
And, do you have checked the special option “Activate experimental (instable)
functions” in Options > LibreOffice > General? This may very well cause such
behaviour ...

2012-10-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Bug ID: 55633
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: Crash loading specific calc file (slooow in LibO
3.6.1, crash in LibO 3.6.2, okay in OOo)
  Severity: critical

  Reporter: ku...@excentos.com

Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 3.6.2 release
 Component: Spreadsheet
   Product: LibreOffice

Wer're trying to migrate our company from OpenOffice to LibreOffice for quite a
while (i.e. since LibO exists) now because LibO has more pace and more
desperately needed new features, but unfortunately every new version brings up
a new blocker bug.

Now it has bitten our main (huge) Business Planning sheet.

In LibO 3.6.1 changing the value of any input cell takes ages (i.a. Minutes) to
update the sheet (performance in OOo 3.4.1 is perfect in comparison) and since
LibO 3.6.2 the document outright crashes LibO directly on load.

Practical problem: Although I've "nulled" out all data in a copy in the sheet
for debugging I don't feel like it's a good idea to publicly post our master
business planning formulas here.
Nevertheless I could send it via email to someone who's willing to debug the
case (anonymous doesn't count as "someone" here ;)

Anyone?

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 52229] EDITING: FORMATTING destroyed after Copy/Paste Text from Adobe Reader

2012-10-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=52229

stfhell changed:

   What|Removed |Added

 CC||stfh...@googlemail.com

I attached some sample document in a ZIP file.

I used Adobe Reader 9.4.2 on 64-bit-Linux (Ubuntu 12.04).

There are 2 issues here with inserting text from Adobe Reader. It may not
convern other PDF-viewers like "evince", but this doesn't necessarily have to
do with a bug in Adobe Reader. I think a statement like "It's generally
difficult to copy/paste from AR, often formatting can't be read. That's not
specific to LibO, but to PDF" is no longer true. (There are some problems with
hard line-breaks or hyphens, but generally copy-and-paste from PDF has become
fairly easy.)

Adobe Reader copies text _with_ formatting information into the clipboard
(which can be quite useful). If you paste it into LO via Ctrl-V there are 3
issues, really:

(1) Special characters (éÉÄÖÜß) are misread and converted into 2-character
sequences (probably a conversion from the wrong code set?). This is a very old
bug.

(2) The text from the clipboard is inserted at the wrong place (in the sample
documents: at the end of the document), and the document's page settings are
changed. This is a new bug, introduced with LO 3.5. LO 3.4 didn't have this.

(3) The formatting information from the PDF file is used; however LO uses a
font name for which it will not find a font file. In the sample: "Times New
Roman" text is formatted with "BA+TimesNewRomanPSMT" as font name. I
suppose this is the font name mangled by the Adobe Reader, not a bug in LO.

You can avoid all these issues if you copy the text as unformatted text into LO
via Ctrl-Shift-V (which is not always available, however): Special characters
are treated correctly and the page attributes are not changed.

I assume that LO's interpretation of what Reader puts in the clipboard differs
from Reader's, and there is of course the possibility that Reader's clipboard
format is bad. But issue (2) cannot be a bug in Reader.

I had a similar experience. Running Win 7 64-bit Home Pre.

Difference: Powerdesk8 works fine for me. Even Powerdesk5 did not show anything
but did not crash either.

In Windows Explorer: Even only hovering the mouse over a .odb file crashes
Explorer. Also with older files ( my oldest is from 2006). Running Explorer as
Adminstrator had no positive effect.

I used Base before I discovered this behavior, so 1. thought something left
over from BASE, but same crashing after restarting PC.

Let me be brave (or rude, just as you want to see it ;-) and change the
severity of this issue from “major” to “critical”. I know that this does not
help anything to fix a bug; and I am not a fan of setting every bug to highest
priority, either. But this bug

a) may cause important data loss for users who do not backup their user
profile;
   this is IMHO critical;

b) gives us bad press, cf. e.g.

http://blogs.pcworld.co.nz/pcworld/tux-love/2012/09/be_wary_of_libreoffice_36.html

I know this is “only” a blog, but nevertheless I think headlines like “Be wary
of LibreOffice 3.6!” are not good for the FLOSS world. By such own goals we
help both AOO and MS Office.

If I can do anything to help with fixing this issue, please let me know; but I
am just a simple-minded bug wrangler, and bound to Mac OS X (and Win XP), so I
fear my possibilites are limited ...

Attached the same file with cubic splines instead of b-splines.

I can delete a sheet in it with the memory consumption never going above 200 MB

So after having a look at this file and playing a bit with it I have a very
strong feeling that the whole problem here is the smoothing and the smoothing
algorithm.

ODF 1.2 switched to b-spline as default smoothing algorithm which is set to an
insane value of degree 50 polynomial in this file. Together with the large
range this creates millions of points that are totally useless in the end.

Furthermore, I think that our B-spline algorithm has a bug and there is another
bug report for that. I once spend some time investigating this issue but the
code is not that nice and extremely complex to bring under test control.

I'll try to attach a saner version of this test document that shows that the
same document can be changed to a way that will not crash with bad_alloc while
still being usable.

Thank you very much for your bug report!

I have tried to reproduce this issue with LibreOffice 3.6.2.2 on Mac OS X
10.6.8 (Intel). Interesting enough, I can actually edit the file path in the
edit field.

* If I change it to some nonsense, an error is displayed instead of the image
in the document window; if I restore the file path to the correct value, the
image is back again.

* If I change the file path to the path of another image file, the document
window displays the other image, as appropriate; if I reset the file path, the
first image appears again.

So I would say this issue is RESOLVED/WORKSFORME.

Can you please test yourself with LibreOffice 3.6.2 (available at
  http://www.libreoffice.org/download/
if this issue is fixed for you, too?

Thank you very much again!

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 55629] New: FORMATTING: Numbered bullet points cause text to be misaligned when number is too large

2012-10-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=55629

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 55629
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: FORMATTING: Numbered bullet points cause text to be
misaligned when number is too large
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: All
  Reporter: gabs...@gmail.com
  Hardware: Other
Whiteboard: BSA
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 3.6.1.2 release
 Component: Writer
   Product: LibreOffice

Created attachment 68086
  --> https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=68086&action=edit
Test document

When numbering (with Roman numerals in this instance) Libreoffice Writer will
keep all the numbered lines aligned with each other. But when you get to a
large number (such as viii.) there is insufficient room and the text is tabbed
across to the right and thereby throws it out of alignment with the rest of the
numbered entries. The following line (ix. in this instance) is aligned like the
rest of the numbered entries. (see attached document which shows the problem) I
have not tried too many other numbering types (mainly Roman numerals where the
problem is more evident) but the same behaviour is present in MS Word as well.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a list of numbered dot points using Roman numerals
2. Ensure that the list goes up to (x.)
3. The problem will be present at number (viii.)

Current behavior:

The numbered entry (viii. in this case) throws the alignment of the text out by
tabbing it across to the right (only for that row).

Expected behavior:

The numbered entry (viii.) should keep the same text alignment as the other
numbered rows. This could be done by allowing more space between the numbers
and text by default or for Libreoffice Writer to detect that the alignment will
be thrown out at (viii.) or other numbered entry that causes the problem and
modifies the alignment of all numbered entries to keep all of them in the same
alignment.

There will need to be a decision made on how high the numbered entry is before
the text is tabbed across like the current behaviour. For example, if you reach
bullet point number 1000 should Libreoffice realign all other numbered points?

Test on Libreoffice 3.6.1 on Windows and Libreoffice 3.5.4 in Linux Mint.

Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:15.0) Gecko/20100101

There is a feature in base, which offers the table for import. If there isn't
any content to import, you could click with right mouse-button and the menu
offers only "Copy" and nothing with "Paste".
If I had copied content from, for example, Calc, and then click with right
mouse-button the mu offers "Copy", "Paste" and "Paste special ..." If you
choose "Paste" the wizard appears with the marked table-name and also choosen
"Append data" and "Use first line as column names".
"Paste special" would only change the format of the content you will insert.

Seems, that the feature, you wish, is already there.

Problem description: Line Spacing Behaves Strangely when using formulas

Steps to reproduce:
After it happened the fisrt time, I was unable to reproduce this bhavior again.
Near as I can tell, however, this is what I did:
1. Create a new line with nothing but a formula (Anchored as Character) on it
2. At the end of the line, press Enter to create a new line
I should also probably note that I was able to get the line spacing to go back
to normal by adding some regular text after the formula object. After the line
spacing returned to normal, deleting the text did not cause the problem to
reappear, nor was I able to replicate the problem again.

Current behavior: Unusually large line spacing

Expected behavior: Normal line spacing

Platform: Windows 7 Service Pack 1, 64 Bit

OK, let’s close this report -- the issue is too trivial and maybe just a matter
of taste. But it would be nice if the other bug reports about UI glitches on
Mac OS X would be fixed ... e.g. bug 50506, which should be fairly easy to fix.

Allards has answered all questions (thank you very much!), therefore the
NEEDINFO status is not appropriate. But I can not confirm this issue right now,
therefore I reset it to UNCONFIMED, sorry! This has some advantage: at least
UNCONFIRMED bugs will not be closed after some time, so this status is better
