[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 71447] File menu takes long time to open
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=71447 --- Comment #27 from James R Shaw --- I finally was able to put together a REPRODUCIBLE set of steps to create/cure the problem which should help a programmer propose a workable solution to the problem. I was messing around with my virus scanner and the LO memory settings the other day and was able to get fast menu response and thought I was on to something. Then today I observed the 30-40 second open and 30-40 second close/save. Background My thanks to weaselthatbi...@yahoo.co.uk who put me on the right track on where to look. Some of the following commentary may be speculative based upon personal programming experience and a lack of knowledge of what is under the hood in LO. On my libreOffice main screen I have 21 thumbnails of documents I regularly open. ONE of these is a networked document that I open once a week. SOMETIMES the remote machine (a laptop) is OFF. SOMETIMES the remote machine is ON. Symptoms When the machine is OFF LO is unable to reach across the LAN to ping the file and create the thumbnail or otherwise perform behind the scenes preloading of some stuff into cache etc. to speed up anticipated future file operations. LO still appears to attempt to reach out to the file even though the system is offline. I would suspect there is some kind of network timeout that is being tripped that is in the 20-30 second range. So when one attempts to startup LO, It pings all the files and builds the Recent Documents list. When it gets to the networked file that is unavailable (remote system is offline) a network timer is started and the recent file list build is suspended waiting on the network request. When the timeout threshold is reached (~30 seconds), the build resumes and is quickly completed. Test 1 with remote system offline Open let's say a spreadsheet and change one individual cell forcing a save. Close the file and click on the save button. The time to close, save, and get back to the LO main process window is in the ~35 second range. I have been living with this behavior for 7 frustrating months. Test 2 with remote system ONline Turn the remote machine on and wait until you can see the disk where the file is located over the network with Windows Explorer or whatever. Open that spreadsheet again. Time to open ~1 second!!! Change one individual cell forcing a save. Close the file and click on the save button. The time to close, save, and get back to the LO main process is in the amazing ~1 second range. This can get even more fun... Test 3 with remote system taken offline prior to save Open that spreadsheet again and change one individual cell forcing a save. Close the file and BEFORE YOU click on the save button, SHUTDOWN the remote computer. The time to close, save, and get back to the LO main process is back to a dismal 23 seconds im my specific case. I have resorted to using an old copy of MS office when I know that the remote system will be off and the 30 second delays are going to be happening. Proposed solution for the programmer. One may want to add an option or two to steer this behavior--timing parameters and such. Treat all networked files on the most recently used list asynchronously, on the first pass/build--skip them and fill them in on a second pass AFTER the list is built AND displayed. At least two places will have to be treated this way: the File=> Recent Documents pull-down and the main LibreOffice screen with all the thumbnails. I hope this info helps provide a solution... -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 74513] Underlined Words in Calc When Pasted as GDI Metafile into Writer Do Not Appear
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=74513 --- Comment #20 from noibs...@me.com --- Some additional observations regarding this display bug: 1. It's now present in the latest version of OpenOffice. 2. The missing underline is actually present. If you copy the GDI metafile object pasted into a Writer document and paste it back as a bitmap, the underline shows up--albeit at too low a resolution to make it a good fix. 3. If you right click on the GDI metafile object and compress the image, the underline mostly shows up. The fact that it's kind of distorted might be a clue that someone smarter than I can use. 4. Having antialiasing turned on or off in LO's General preferences doesn't affect the bug. 5. The bug is present under Mac OS 10.9.5 on both a retina MacBook Pro and an older Macbook Air without a retina display. Thus, it's not related to retina displays. I'm not a programmer so take this with a grain of salt; however, I believe this bug reflects changes in the underlying Mac antialiasing (font smoothing) and how it interacts with the VERY thin underlining in LibreOffice and OpenOffice. I can't test this because Apple has apparently made it very difficult to turn off font smoothing in later version of the Mac OS. Terminal commands I used to use are no longer effective. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

But at least the odd color issue disappeared (not being able to paste in Gimp shifted to happening when copying the chart object itself - will open a different bug report if required). - I decided to check out the clipboard data, just in case Gimp et al were being silly, using: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/inside_clipboard.html When copying cells with chart, I get output on several seemingly graphics-related clipboard streams: CF_DIB: Mostly FF values, coinciding with the white of the chart. PNG: Saved as binary, shows no chart. Windows Bitmap: Mostly FF values (saved as binary, shows no chart) GDIMetaFile: Unsure - apparently one of the few formats irfanview will not open or recognize. - Some additional info: O/S: Windows 8 - Other charts elements do appear to copy (title, subtitle, axes labels, axes, major/minor grid). - In most chart types, the legend's text does appear. - In the 'net' type of chart, the net title does not appear. - In a pie chart (any subtype), if I change the legend to appear at the top/bottom and make some of the label data longer, the legend's color squares get further apart to make room for the text. However, in the pasted version, they are all spaced closely together (i.e. as if the chart is re-generated for the clipboard specifically, and has the text (and pie slices) missing entirely). Why do these styles have to differ? Let's say I create a new document that should contain a heading and a list. Depending on my mood, I might start with the list first, and then add the heading to the top, or start with the heading and then continue with the list. With the current behavior I'll end up with two differently formatted documents. Who expects and appreciates this? [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 74580] FILEOPEN: Add option to disable import dialog when opening a CSV file
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=74580 --- Comment #3 from Jeff Sadowski --- Why can't we save the settings for a file type? I'd like csv's to always be one way without the dialog all the time. It would be nice if we could save the settings with the dialog for file types or go to the settings somewhere to setup for cvs to use these settings for txt files always ask maybe create a bunch of our own filetypes and set them up with the different import options. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs
[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 74513] Underlined Words in Calc When Pasted as GDI Metafile into Writer Do Not Appear
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=74513 --- Comment #18 from noibs...@me.com --- After reading the comments today, I was hopeful. I deleted my user profile (the entire folder within the user Application Support folder). I'm still seeing the bug. I just created a small PDF file showing how the bug looks. See the Example.pdf file. What's interesting is that the underline appears to be a white underline that you can see crossing over the bottom the "g" character. I'm running Mac OS X 10.9.5 on a 2014 retina MacBook Pro. The PDF I created was from Writer. The first pasted object was a calc8 object. The second was a gdi metafile object. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

OSX backtrace attached The same happens on the Linux 4.4 bibisect repository (which is also a dbgutil build) as far back as the 4.3 branch point, which is the earliest it covers.
