It's comparing apples to apples. Intercepting the spool file gives you the
exact thing that would be printed. There is no need to waste paper.

maybe you are right ... on the one hand i'd have sworn i've seen the notes

on the other hand a retest yesterday with below ver. on another machine sucked

pasting (machine started swapping? it had no swap partition defined), sudden
freeze of mouse, keyboard and desktop, usb port unusable after reboot,

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 133594] New: 'Background color' setting from 'Formatting' toolbar does not set Table cells background

2020-06-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=133594

Bug ID: 133594
Summary: 'Background color' setting from 'Formatting' toolbar
does not set Table cells background
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.4.3.2 release
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: hae...@cosifan.de

Description:
If one tries to set the background color for a table's cells via the
'Background color' icon from the 'Formatting toolbar', there is "something"
filled of the selected cells but not the whole background

Steps to Reproduce:
- create a new table
- set outer borders and inner lines (with some padding)
- mark some cells
- use the 'Background color' icon (little bucket) from 'Formatting toolbar' to
fill the selected cells' background

Actual Results:
- the background will be filled partial, the padding is visible as a white
border. Also, if one cell has more lines of content than the others, only the
lines containing something are colored.

- the 'Table' => 'Properties' ... => 'Background' Tab shows "none", whereas for
LO 6.2.5.2 ther Color Tab shows what one has chosen using 'Background color'
icon

Expected Results:
- the background should be completely filled without any padding,
- the 'Table' => 'Properties' ... => 'Background' Tab should reflect the
setting

Reproducible: Always

hello @Regina:

sorry for the mail bombing the other day, i didn't realize that it's possible
to discuss on git and the mails from gerrit automatically expanded a reply to
multiple persons,

as you are the expert for the standards - ? - you may be able to help with this
problem by explaining if 'sort' or 'filter' should have the leadership over
'table:orientation', or if there is a possibility to use multiple tags
'orientation' ... or how to avoid mutual interference,

as long as the current situation contains a conflict, and i don't know how it
*should* be, i'm blocked from improving anything,

also a hint to someone else who knows about it and might be able or willing to
help, or to the corresponding documentation would be helpful,

imho saving in .xlsm format is free of such conflicts as it simply doesn't
store any sort info?

a sort info 'horizontal' (orientation="column") stored in *.ods is still washed
away in ver, 7.1 once you additional apply a filter to that range,

many thanks in advance,

b.

Confirmed. The "Background Color" button now sets paragraph background even
when cells are selected. But is this really an issue, given that there is a
dedicated "Table Cell Background Color" button on the table toolbar?

Pedro, as LO help says (but not very clear to me): "If you want to change the
actual page number and not the displayed number, do not use the Offset value.
To change page numbers, read the Page Numbers guide." [1]

So I guess your document 42 pages and that's the reason why page numbering
stops at 43.

You can define page number with Insert => More Breaks => Manual Break, but not
on the first page of you document. So I think it would be an enhancement
request to start document with a customized page number. Do you agree and would
this solve your problem?

It's only about version 7.0.0.0 beta1. I haven't tried with any alpha version.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 133276] Wrong characters formatting (kerning) after odt file opened in LO 6.4.3.2 Writer

2020-06-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=133276

Here is another hint, and the bug, actually:

this "new" rendering, since 5.3 is somehow badly calibrated.
Proof:

take the example .odt file here, mark all the line "Prices..." > Character >
Position > set Kerning to -0.1 pt (the lowest possible).

The whole line shrinks around 17%. From a DTP point of view this is absolutely
a disaster, if 0.1 pt kerning affects the line that much. Never seen something
like this, and I worked on Ventura, PageMaker, Word Perfect and mostly, on OO
and LO Writer.

My guess is, these are the programmers who are working on LO, glory to them,
but the software is used by people like me, from DTP. And the programmers
naturally cannot know how DTP should work.

So this is the whole thing with rendering too much or whatever, I am not a
programmer. :)

With the attached database and Calc-file I could reproduce the behavior.
Tested with OpenSUSE 15.1 64bit rpm Linux and different LO-Versions (LO
6.4.4.2, also LO 6.1.5.2 ...)

I don't know why it worked here before.

2020-06-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=133591

--- Comment #2 from sebastien.kr...@wanadoo.fr ---
I tried to reproduce:
1. open Writer
2. enter "abc" without (the "), no line feed
3. Save As -> Text (.txt)
4. open with an hex editor. The file holds 7 bytes:
EF BB BF 61 62 63 0A

These 3 first bytes are a UTF8 BOM (see
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byte_order_mark ).

@fg: could you check your file if it is the same ? Maybe your text editor just
misunderstands this.

The question is: should these be there or not. I think this is a design
decision, some editors offer the choice to save txt file with or without BOM
(Notepad++ on Windows has this).
Should LO have this ? I don't know.

Just to prove that it is apples to apples when looking at the spool file, I did

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 117231] There is no way to suppress Writer inserting blank pages to make page No. 1 a right-hand page when editing a document

2020-06-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=117231

Tried working with one of the relevant documents in 7.0
In Book mode, the first page is correctly positioned on the right-hand side of
the screen (see screenshot No.1)
However, Writer still inserted a blank page whenever the page numbering is
reset to 1 on what is supposed to be a left-hand page (see schreenshot No. 2).

With "book mode" un-checked, writer firmly dumps the furst page on the
left-hand side of the screen, even if the page is formatted as a right-hand
page (see screenshot No. 3)

Close, but no banana :/

For older versions the document can be saved in "ODF 1.2 extended". I think,
that users of LO 6.3 or older 6.4 versions cannot expect, that those versions
can read "ODF 1.3 extended", a new feature of LO 7.0, although that will work
in many cases. And we are already after "End of Lifetime" date for LO 6.3. and
when LO 7.0 will be released, the version 6.4.5 is already available.

Example file from Excel

Attached user made and neutralized file contains a lot of data with many
character level formatting, and nothing else (no formula, images, shapes etc.).
Saving this file to XLSX is somewhat slow, compared to Excel it takes about
twice as much time on the same machine (about 12 sec vs 5).
It would be nice to run Flamegraph on this to see if there is anything that
stands out.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open attached file and save as XLSX

Actual results:
Slower file save than Excel.

Expected results:
Slightly better performance.

In Word, some of the figure captions are ABOVE the picture, but they still show

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 133605] New: Incorrect rendering numbering in Word defined multi-level list

2020-06-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Bug ID: 133605
Summary: Incorrect rendering numbering in Word defined

   Product: LibreOffice

  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal

Created attachment 161528
  --> https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=161528=edit
bug_example_doc

Hi there,

I have .docx document that uses a particular numbering, that is attached to
predefined styles. I've attached this document.

As you can see, I use headings at four different levels (1 to 4). They make use
of a multi-level list. In this case, the first level omits a number (a
deliberate choice by us, and designed like that in Word), but it is used to
'reset' the numbering for level 2. In Word, this completely works as expected.
The result is this [screenshot](https://imgur.com/a/Ryu1EDW).

However, when opening in LibreOffice (tried versions between 6.2.8 and newest
beta (7.0.0.0beta1), it force the first level to use numbering as well. So the
first heading is "1Heading level 1" and the other heading levels use this
number in their numbering as well, so level 2 is showing "1.1" instead of "1".

Is there something that can be done to fix this?

Looking forward to your reply!

Best regards,

Maro Caspers

Simple steps :

1. I Open LibreOfficeDev
2. I click New Writer document in left panel
3. Without doing anything, I close immediately LO by clicking on the red cross
top right

That's all.

I open the Task Manager.
I see 2 lines "LibreOfficeDev (32 bits)". See screenshot 1.
It happens every time.

And, after a long working session, it can be worse. See screenshot 2.
(I proofread books, and I run a lot of personnal macros)

It happens also on

Build ID: 94f789cbb5b4a511c319542c7bdc31ff3b3c
Threads CPU : 8; OS : Windows 10.0 Build 18363; UI Render : Skia/Raster; VCL:

It never happens on my regular version :

I updated my local repo and removed LO profile, I confirm I've got same pb with
soffice.exe:
- first time: error message ("abort has been called...")
- second time: ok

The specific case is our OpenSymbol glyph chart, see bug 103740 but the request
in general is issue of bug 101174

You can currently make a Tool -> Options -> Fonts 'Replacement Table'
assignment to replace OpenSymbol with a more appealing font with Unicode
coverage of the misc mathematical and greek symbols--YMMV

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 133608] New: Russian dictionaries UTF-8 conversion

2020-06-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=133608

Bug ID: 133608
   Summary: Russian dictionaries UTF-8 conversion
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Linguistic
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: sheshukov.i...@gmail.com
CC: so...@libreoffice.org

Description:
This patch converts ru_RU/hyph_ru_RU.dic, ru_RU/ru_RU.aff, ru_RU/ru_RU.dic from
KOI8-R to UTF-8.

Steps to Reproduce:
In WebkitGTK-based program (e.g. Foliate) open a Russian document.

Actual Results:
No hyphenation.

Expected Results:
Program uses hyphenation rules from hyph_ru_RU.dic

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
Basically, this is needed because some programs (e.g. flatpaked WebkitGTK which
uses this dictionary and everything depending on it) can't use dictionaries and
hyphenation rules in KOI8-R.
Converting those to UTF-8 solves this issue and doesn't seem to break anything
else.

Not an LO issue specifically, but it causes issues in a lot of other software.
