I think the issue with Ctrl+; is with languages that need the Shift key
for the semicolon, I have the same problem with Spanish. I don't know
how many can be affected, and maybe other key combination have a similar
issue.

This is a very useful table.
One key that I always have to change in any LibreOffice installation is F4
to toggle absolute/relative addresses (maybe this could be changed from
Shift+F4 as default unless there are too many Calc users opposing?)

Hi Miguel Ángel

Thank you for the link. That is exactly the problem since the Portuguese
keyboard also requires Shift to be pressed.
But the key combination (with Shift) works in Excel, so LibreOffice must
have some problem with hotkeys that probably affects other key combinations
and possibly all users that don't have a en_US keyboard (or any keyboard
layout that requires different key presses).

I will comment in the Bug report and change the version number (this never
worked in Calc).

Regarding F4, I just noticed that it is now (since branch 5.1) the default
hotkey for absolute/relative cell addresses so thank you to whoever changed
it :)

Best regards,
Pedro

But bug hunting sessions are dedicated to new features and testing them
thoroughly before the releases, so what you propose is something
different, but could be implemented under another name like "code
squeezing sessions" that are organized in between to major version (like
we are now, next bug hunting session should be somewhere around week 18
so this is about still 10 weeks without BHS)

I understand and I'm all for it, but for me it's something different
than the sessions we organized that solely focus on the next major version.

For the proper context, I would like to add the following:
over time some 'classic' OpenOffice short cut keys have been changed to
meet people's expectation when coming from Excel.
Now Kohei has been so good to add .. Option > Calc > Compatibility.
There all keys can be switched at once.

I'm not sure if it will be a success if _all_ the short cuts that are to
be identified as from Excel, will be changed with one single switch ;)
But that point is certainly at table for discussion..

Ciao,
Cor

Sure. It's no one else but us, though, that determine the purpose of BHS.
So if we learn that a certain approach is not appealing any more (or not
at the moment), why not change? As BHS' currently do not work for new
release testing, it would be a pity not to use them for another hard
needed subject.

Another event could possibly put extra pressure on people's agenda. Not
sure if that will be met with applause :)

But.. it's my feeling and my opinion. If there is strong evidence of
support for something else: fine for me :)

Cheers,
Cor

Because we need those versions with new features to be more tested. That
doesn't prevent to do other testing, and that's why we need to
reorganize the BHS in a more attracting way and make them successful.

That could be also addressed by different populations, those who wants
their version with less bugs and don't care about new features could be
the best participants while others would be new feature lovers.

No problem, you know that we sometime have different opinions but it's
important to discuss them :) Thanks a lot for your feedback.

With LO 5.1, F4 was made to toggle absolute/relative addresses.

Works for me, so i guess its the portuguese keyboard. Some keyboard
shortcuts have different shortcuts based on the language UI of LO that
the user is using, so do file a bug for this and suggest an alternative
shortcut that can work on your keyboard and CC me. Would also be good to
get feedback from other users using the portuguese keyboard for their
suggestion for an alternative shortcut.

It seems that you missed a previous answer

http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/Libreoffice-qa-Excel-key-bindings-for-Calc-tp4176931p4176961.html

In any case I think it's not a question of selecting an alternative shortcut
but that LO accepts Ctrl+; even if some users have to press the Shift key.
This works in Excel regardless of the keyboard so there is a solution. Maybe
the trick is to force Ctrl+; and Ctrl+Shift+; to execute the same command
(therefore Ctrl+Shift+; is not usable for other commands)

[Libreoffice-qa] Excel key bindings for Calc

2016-02-29 Thread Yousuf 'Jay' Philips

Hi All,

I'm currently working on an option for having Calc use Excel's keyboard
shortcuts. So i'm gathering a list of shortcuts to see which ones can be
integrated in Calc's default mode and which would be exclusive to an
Excel keybinding mode.
