I like the cello girl graphic, although it might not be detailed enough
to use on a shirt. I'm not certain who created it, nor do I know what
the copyright license is.

I'm interested in including it with printed music (as in "Score Created
with [logo] LilyPond"), when I finally get to that stage.

Request: logo for shirt

2003-11-14 Thread Pedro Kroger
Hi,

Would anyone with talent for graphics be interested in making a
lilypond logo for shirts?

I'd love to wear a lilypond shirt in conferences, install fests, etc.

Cheers,

lilypond feature request (was: Some doubts)

2003-11-14 Thread Jim
Lilyponders,

The brackets that Daniel Berjón Díez has asked about are very handy in
organ music when indicating a change in registration or when changing
from one manual (keyboard) to another. I have scores where you can
see these used up to ten times per page.

In truth, not all publishers use the same symbols for this task, but
the thin-line brackets are reasonably common and quite clear as to
their meaning, and something I'd like to add to my scores.

I did have a look at the molecule-hacking code. Ouch!

Thanks,

Re: Very long hyphens in lyrics

2003-11-14 Thread Russ Ross
While searching the archive I came across this message from a month
ago. I'm having the same issue but it is even worse when the hyphen
extends (or should extend) over an entire line. Currently, lilypond
doesn't print anything for that line and compresses the vertical
spacing as though there were no lyrics at all, which is a bit
confusing since it's the middle of a word.

How does one file a feature request for something like this? As you
proposed, a property on LyricHyphen would be perfect--set it once
and have it behave that way through the whole score.

When I tried using a lyric extender instead of a hyphen, it still
drops out for the line when there are no other new lyrics on that
line, then reappears on the next line to lead up to the next new
word.  For example:

\score {
<<
  \new Staff \notes \relative c' {
c4 c c c | c c c c | c c c c | c c c c | c c c c |
c c c c | c c c c | c c c c | c c c c | c c c c
c c c c | c c c c | c c c c | c c c c | c c c c
c c c c | c c c c | c c c c | c c c c | c c c c
  }
  \new Lyrics \lyrics {
Fu4*79 __ bar!4
  }
  \new Lyrics \lyrics {
Fu4*79 -- bar!4
  }
>>
  \paper {}
}

I'm guessing that even if we had a LyricHyphen property that used
repeated dashes it would still skip the middle line, seeing as both
the hyphen and the lyric extender skip it now. Is there any way to
prevent this? Is this a bug or is it intentional?

Thanks,

Russ

Re: staff spacing

2003-11-14 Thread Russ Ross
Thank your for your suggestions! The font trick worked like a
charm. I'm still struggling with the staff spacing for pages with
no lyrics.

Do you mean that the music staff will normally disappear, or just
the space below it where the lyrics normally go? I'm not seeing the
staff disappear, just the space below. For the lyrics in those
sections I use something like \skip1.*15 and the music staff has
something like R1.*15.

I tried removing the Hara_kiri_engraver per your instructions below,
but I got a rather strange result. All the lyrics from all the 9
vocal lines collected at the top of the page (overwriting each
other). Perhaps I've done something strange? Here's how I'm
structuring things:

\score {
  \simultaneous {
\new StaffGroup \simultaneous {
  \property Score.BarNumber \override #'padding = #2
  \iSopranoRipienoStaff
  \new GrandStaff \simultaneous {
\iFlautoTraversoIStaff
\iFlautoTraversoIIStaff
  }
  \new GrandStaff \simultaneous {
\iOboeIStaff
\iOboeIIStaff
  }
  \new GrandStaff \simultaneous {
\iViolinoIStaff
\iViolinoIIStaff
  }
  \iViolaStaff
  \new InnerChoirStaff \simultaneous {
\iSopranoStaff
\iAltoStaff
\iTenorStaff
\iBassStaff
  }
  \new GrandStaff \simultaneous {
\property GrandStaff.instrument = "Organo e Continuo."
\iOrganoEContinuoTrebleStaff
\iOrganoEContinuoBassStaff
  }
}
... similar for the second orchestra and choir

In different files I define the various staffs. iSopranoStaff is
like this:

SopranoStaff = \simultaneous {
  \context Staff = iSopranoNotes \notes {
\vocalStaffSetup
\property Staff.instrument = "Soprano."
\time 12/8
\clef soprano
\relative c' {
  \key e \minor
... a bunch of notes
}
  }

  \context Lyrics = iSopranoLyrics \lyrics {
\lyricsSetup
... a bunch of lyrics
  }
}

where vocalStaffSetup is just a set of directives that are common to
all my vocal parts (turning off autobeaming, setting staff size,
etc.).

Thanks again for your help,

Russ

Re: staff spacing

2003-11-14 Thread Mats Bengtsson
At the moment, it seems that LilyPond thinks of the _ or "" as a
graphical object with a rhythmic position, and that's exactly the
kind of objects that prevents the stave from being removed.
We send it as a feature request to bug-lilypond to make LilyPond
smarter in this respect.

Alas, this seems (to me) not to work when the lyrics aren't "empty" as
much as they are _s or ""s (using \addlyrics) in a voice that just
follows the common lyrics for a while. (This is common in 2-staff
choir music, where the lyrics only differ partially between voices.)
Any idea of how to get the rid of the space allocated for
not-empty-enough lyrics?

When you have a score line with empty lyrics, it is removed completely
meaning that it doesn't occupy any space.
If you want empty lyrics lines to still occupy some space, try
\score{

  \paper{
...
\translator{
  \LyricsVoiceContext
  \remove "Hara_kiri_engraver"
}
  }
}

Matthew Passion which has about 27 staves per page. I can squeeze

moving a few dynamic marks, and increasing the textsize parameter.
When the vocal parts are resting, the system crunches down to a much
smaller size (no lyrics) which I'd like to avoid. What I'd really
like is to fix the spacing of the staves on all pages to be the same,
ideally computed based on the largest spacing needed on any page.
Is it possible to do something like this? I think it makes the
music much easier to follow from page to page.
I've tried setting the spacing of an individual manually using:

  \property Staff.minimumVerticalExtent = #'(-3 . 5)

or something similar, but this seems to expand the staff too much on
the pages with lyrics (where space is tight) and not enough on the
pages without lyrics. Is there another setting that controls the
inter-staff spacing when lyrics are involved? If I can just set the
spacing myself it should work with some trial and error. If I could
get lilypond to compute the spacing and keep it the same for all
pages that would be even better.
Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Russ

The problem is that we don't have any smaller version of the Feta fonts,
but the easiest solution is to add two lines to the file

I think the result looks reasonable.

An alternative solution, which doesn't involve any hacking in the

\property FiguredBass.BassFigure \set #'font-relative-size = #0
\property FiguredBass.BassFigure \set #'font-magnification = #0.55

Re: smaller size in lilypond than paper13.ly

2003-11-14 Thread Mats Bengtsson
First of all, have you tried to decrease the interscoreline variable
(http://lilypond.org/doc/v2.0/Documentation/user/out-www/lilypond/Page-layout.html)
and increase the textheight variable
(http://lilypond.org/doc/v2.0/Documentation/user/out-www/lilypond/Invoking-lilypond.html)?
If you decrease the size of the music even more, I suspect that it
will be more or less impossible to see what's written. The best solution
is probably to use a larger paper size. If you absolutely want to
squeeze it in to an A4 paper, you could always typeset it for a larger
paper size and then scale it down to A4 (Acrobat has an option to
schrink each page to fit the paper size).
