Actually, you can according to this Apple support article.

Debbie,
Interact then start selecting with the first item by pressing
command- control-option-return. Use VO and up or down arrow as needed to select
other items and press the same key combination.

Re: VMware Fusion 10.1.1 and BootCamp

2018-01-10 Thread Georgina Joyce
Hello Janina,

Well I’m tired of this and I’m going to get some sleep.

My MacBook Air 2013 uses a driver Cirrus Audio CS4208 X64 driver. I have found
several Apple resources then I found this Microsoft resource.

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-hardware/windows-10-and-macbook-air-external-speaker/332a9694-3636-456e-bb55-4894bd066dd8

Where as Apple tell us to get the latest driver this article suggests a roll
back may solve the issue. I’ve tried downloading from a site but meet a
graphical challenge.

Let us know if you crack it.

Yes the first thing that needs to be done is to install the bootcamp
drivers. You needed to go to the system tray and bootcamp hangs out there.
There must be a way of triggering the install from the run dialog. If that
is the sate of the machine like installs with Narrator support a USB
headset would provide audio. Did you use a USB headset that has it’s own
 sound card for the installation?

Looking on the web I think you should be able to run the setup.exe from
 the run dialog.

Re: Finding current page url

2018-01-10 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Well, command-L will set focus on the navigation bar with the address
selected. The only problem with this is that it is a bit difficult then to
jump back into the web page.

You could use vo-shift-[5 to save your spot and then use vo-5 to jump back.
For that matter if you set a hotspot on the address bar, you might be able
to use vo-command-hotspot to read the hotspot without jumping to it.
VoiceOver Hotspots though are not predictable in terms of when they will
get obsoleted. And in fact the number one way I can get Safari to go into
busy mode is set a hotspot in the middle of a web page and then move to a
different page and try to get to the hotspot.

Best Wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Hello Janina,

Well good but bad news. I’ve been using my MacBook Air’s bootcamp partition for
about an hour. I’ve lost audio. Just plugged in my USB headset that I used to
install Windows. It made the new hardware sound through the headset and NVDA
announced installing software for the new device. So I have lost sound via it’s
own speakers and have sound through an independent sound card. So you were
right it’s a driver issue.

Now why should Windows mess about with a driver while it is in use?

Hello,

I know when on a link vo+shift+u will read the url of that link.

When on a page already, is there a key command to announce the url of the

Thanks.

I do have a thought ...

You might want to consider a newer Mac, just not a new one. Price should
be much less. You could look at the Macs that support running Win 10 and
look for refurbished, or owner sold models on that list.

If possible, I'd try to stay above the models that support installing
directly from an iso image on the Mac drive, as opposed to requiring you
to create a bootable USB stick. That's got to be much much faster. My
Airbook is too old for that.

There might be two benefits to a used Mac that you would lose with a new
Mac:

1.) Physical function keys, instead of the touchbar. Your choice on
whether that matters to you.

2.) The audible chime on boot has apparently disappeared on newer
Macs. If you're dual booting, working without the chime could be really
frustrating, imo.

For my money the above two considerations make a slightly used Airbook a
smarter buy, assuming it's in good condition and its former owner wasn't
a smoker.

Go figure.

Relevant to your situation I can attest that BootCamp is fussy about
using the tail end of your OS X container. I actually tried to get fancy
and put in a Win partition mid disk, then assign the remainder for ExFAT
so that it could contain files to share with both OS. Well, BootCamp
refused to cooperate with that.

The only situation that successfully created the BootCamp partitionand
launched the Windows install was having the entire disk, all the way to
the edge, assigned to OS X. Even free space, uunpartitioned and
unformatted wasn't acceptable.

diskutil from the command line is your friend on this task, imo. Note in
the page I pointed you to that a size of 0 means "fill the whole disk."
You want to see the entire container assigned to the Mac before running
BootCamp.

Good luck!

Re: VMware Fusion 10.1.1 and BootCamp

2018-01-10 Thread Georgina Joyce
Hello Janina,

I think the blind keystrokes might be:

Open the run dialog box:
cmd r, i.e. Windows r.

If you have a cd/DVD version the USB will be assigned E:\ if not it is likely
to be d:\. I don’t know the path structure of the unzipped package so you’ll
need to know it by exploring it on the Mac side of things. Going by the article
your run command should be:
e:\windowsSupport\setup.ext

Windows will want you to allow changes so you need:
opt Y i.e. alt y.

Then the article suggests you might need to click continue, so you might need
to:
opt c i.e. alt c.

You might need to do a:
opt f i.e alt f.

To finish.

Then a opt y i.e. alt y.

Answering yes to a reboot. Then hold on to something that gives you security to
see what happens.

Hello Janina,

Good to hear from you too.

Yes the first thing that needs to be done is to install the bootcamp drivers.
You needed to go to the system tray and bootcamp hangs out there. There must be
a way of triggering the install from the run dialog. If that is the sate of the
machine like installs with Narrator support a USB headset would provide audio.
Did you use a USB headset that has it’s own sound card for the installation?

Looking on the web I think you should be able to run the setup.exe from the run

I've encountered the situation where my headphone jack is refusing to
work for my existing BootCamp install of Windows 10. It worked for a
brief while, then stopped. Nothing I've tried has brought it back.

What I need to do is to apply Apple's BootCamp drivers. These should
have been installed via the BootCamp process, of course, but I've been
unable to verify that. Certainly, at the moment there's no sound from
Windows, though I've verified there is a working installation there.
I've actually poked around in it with NVDA. It literally died on me as I
was trying to login with my BootCamp drivers at hand on a USB stick.

So, my question. Can I apply these drivers if I load up my BootCamp
install within the latest VMware? I'm presuming it reads apfs. But I
wonder whether it would go silent the same way, or perhaps that it might
be using different drivers at that level. Anyone know?

 All help much appreciated.

Yeah, that's what I need to check and confirm. And, if not already
installed, get them installed.

All I know is that that box was checked when I started the process.
Whether it succeeded, or was somehow interrupted or aborted, I have no
way to know.

Re: VMware Fusion 10.1.1 and BootCamp

2018-01-10 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
Hi, Gena:

Good to hear from you.

I'm pretty confident my problem is driver related for several reasons.

One is that I ended up using sighted assistance to finish the Windows
installation. It started out as the simple question: "Is anything on my
screen?" Well, what was there was th continuing Windows installation,
and Narrator wasn't responding.

We went ahead and finished, then looked at volume settings. It's
definitely not muted, and Narrator volume was at 50%. Also, running the
speech test showed graphic activity on screen, i.e. Windows annimates
the speech so that one can see that it's trying to talk, should you not
be hearing the speech.

I'm still not clear why it started talking. It talked through a couple
boots, but then died quite suddenly while reading the login screen.

OI went ahead an upgraded my VMware to 10.1.1, but I declined to pay
until I can be assured this is actually going to work. I'm not seeing
where I can access my BootCamp Windows from the 30-day trial VMware.

So, I guess I'm waiting for another shot at sighted assistance. I
definitely don't want to try reinstalling. That's been farr more miss
than hit, and it's taken far, far too much of my time in the past month.

Thanks for your good suggestions. They're certainly the things one
should try, and I especially appreciate that command.

Janina

Did you install the bootcamp drivers? I am not sure exactly how do this, but I
understand that sound will not work correctly until the bootcamp drivers are
installed once the OS has been installed.

command option control return turns on non-contiguous selection mode. And then

Crucible.com is the standard goto to determine wRAM
upgrades for Mac computers. I believe they have an application to download that
checks your memory and knows what slots are available on what computer.

Selecting Non-contiguous Items in Mack OS High Sierra

2018-01-10 Thread Debbie April Yuille
Hi All

How does one go about selecting files non contiguously with Voice Over in
Mac OS High Sierra. I've googled the steps but they say to hold down the
command key and when I do that and press the down arrow the file executes
rather an selects.

Any help is much appreciated.

Debbie

Re: VMware Fusion 10.1.1 and BootCamp

2018-01-10 Thread Georgina Joyce
Hello Janina,

Interestingly, I lost sound on my bootcamp install of Windows 10 and blamed it
on activation of jaws. The volume was muted twice. I have removed and
reinstalled Windows and installed NVDA but not really played with it. So I hope
I don’t experience the muting of sound again. I’m sure someone on the BCAB list
also had problems too.

OK, so have you tried Narrator?

I did find a command line to change the mute status but I only tried it once
and it did not return sound, reasoning that I mistyped or wasn’t in the right
place to enter such a command.

The command was:

nircmd.exe mutesysvolume 0

From:

Good luck and let us know how you get on.
