No, I don’t think there are new Australian voices. No, that capital letter
oddity is still present, at least in Ava.

Re: New Voices in Mavericks (was, Re: os 10.9, is it worth it?)

2013-10-27 Thread Traci Duncan
Hello, I don’t believe there are any new Australian voices. Just Lee & Karen.

AS far as the capitol goes, Oliver (the new UK voice), reads capitol T, the
same as Compact Samantha.

Oddly enough, Alex didn’t indicate capitol or lower-case. I wonder if that is
a setting I have created?

Re: New Voices in Mavericks (was, Re: os 10.9, is it worth it?)

2013-10-27 Thread Nicholas Parsons
HI Traci,
By default, Alex should just change pitch when reading a capital letter but
should not say the word "capital". This makes reading all caps much easier as
you don't get all the unnecessary extra words. The other voices, however, will
say "capital" and change pitch as well, which is unnecessarily verbose given
that the pitch change is sufficient.
Cheers,
Nic

2013-10-27 Thread BBS
Nick, what I’ve done for all the voices, including Alex and the Vocalizer
Expressive voices, instead of having it change pitch for capital letters, I
have it beep for capital letters. I prefer this behavior because the pitch
changes are freaky.

2013-10-28 Thread Nicholas Parsons
With the exception of Alex, doesn't it still say the word "capital" before each
letter even with beeps turned on? Whether pitch change or beeps I don't mind, I
just don't like it saying "capital" each time as that three syllable word
before each one syllable letter is horribly verbose and slow.

Hi Nick. It’s true that the Nuance voices still say capital before the capital

tts bug with some voices Re: New Voices in Mavericks (was, Re: os 10.9, is it worth it?)

2013-10-29 Thread Peter Durieux
Hi listers,

Do you all remember the tts bug from some previous versions of osx and ios.
The one that misspronaunced emailaddresses and url's.
Well those are fixed in ml for the english or french voices.
Badly to see that this bug is still around with the dutch voices, are there
others that have the very annoying bug in an other language.

I'm trying to make a list and see how we can motivate apple to fix this one.
Sadly, this is reported more then a couple times, but yeah.
