Yes you are...I missed it too at the start...all you need to do is uncheck
the check mark next to their name and then choose the submit button at the
bottom of the page!

No.

That is, you aren't missing anything obvious. The method is not obvious
until after you know it. In the administrator's Membership Management page,
find the address in the list,
uncheck the "subscr" column for the address
(whose heading has likely scrolled off the top), and
submit your changes

If you have access to the command line, as the mailman user, on the server,
you can use
   .../bin/remove_members
to remove many members at once [or just one, for that matter]. Without
that access, you're stuck in the web tool.

Uncheck the "subscribed" checkbox in the user list.

2001-11-12 Thread Jon Carnes

First of all, you should let Mailman remove users who are bouncing
excessively. Check out the admin options for this and modify if necessary.
This is not a task that you should be worrying about - that is why you use
Mailman...

If you really want to catch the traffic for an unsubscribe then turn off
your MTA (Sendmail, or whatever) then do the unsubscribe. Delete the
created message out of your queue. Turn your MTA back on.
There are also various MTA add-ons that will let you catch the traffic
before it leaves your site.

[Mailman-Users] Unsubscribing users without notification

2001-11-12 Thread J. Frederick Ball OEF

Is there a way (running Mailman 2.0.7) to remove a user from a list
*without* allowing a message to go out to that person? I have two
instances where this would be helpful.

One is a case where sendmail reports "Can not check MX records for
recipient host domainname.com" and Mailman has been trying to deliver the
message forever. The other is a case where somehow, probably in a mass
subscription, someone was subscribed with [EMAIL PROTECTED] as the address --
that is, it should have been "net" not "ne" -- and I want to remove that
person from the list. Obviously, it is pointless to mail a notification of
such action to a bad address.

Ideas?

But why should one need to handle so many manually;
isn't this just for the unsubscribe messages that aren't
processed automagically by mailman for some reason?

In Mailman 2.1, you can mass unsubscribe by filling in addresses in a
big text box, or by uploading a file of addresses, one per line.
Note, this also works for mass subscribes.

It may have been discussed in the past, but wouldn't it also be a neat
idea to include this feature on the web interface?

[Mailman-Users] Unsubscribing users

2001-10-18 Thread Clean Air

Hello there,

Is there a way to mass-UNsubscribe users from the
system?  I handle at least 50 unsubscribe requests a week, and it's not fun
to do it one at a time.

[Mailman-Users] unsubscribing users problem?

2001-09-17 Thread Tim Tyler

  Mailman experts,
I have an owner of a list that cut and paste a lot of user addresses
along with their full name at the end of their address into the
subscription field. For some reason it allowed the
subscriptions. However, it won't allow the owner to remove any names
individually or collectively since they all appear to be invalid
addresses. The only way I could remove it was to go into the shell
account and use the remove_members command. Questions?
1. Shouldn't the subscription method have stopped these addresses if
they were invalid in the first place?
2. Shouldn't it be possible for the owner to remove any addresses even
if they are invalid (with spaces, etc)? Any thoughts on this?
3. Any hope for a feature to allow owners one or two clicks to
unsubscribe all users from their list in the future? Having to click next
to each name for very large subscriptions can be a pain and I don't really
want to allow shell access to the remove_members command if I can help it.
  Tim

Note: I am currently using mailman 2.03 on an AIX 4.3 system.
