Re: [MlMt] installing on 2nd computer

2016-05-14 Thread Steven M. Bellovin

Let me add one caveat:

The two installations should not butt up against each other or have
conflicts. You can install any number of different IMAP clients on any
number of computers with no problem, since the canonical home for your
email is in the cloud. That's how IMAP works and why it was developed.

I've found that it's a bad idea to have multiple machines running
simultaneously with rules that sort and categorize incoming messages.
What I do is have all of the rules on one machine; ditto SpamSieve. For
me, what works best is SpamSieve on my always-on desktop, but sorting
rules on my laptop. Why the split? Spam I never want to see, so I
always want to get rid of it quickly. But important mail I want to see
immediately on my phone, so when I'm not using my laptop I'll be alerted
to inbound mail. (I also use server-side rules for less-important
mailboxes that I'd never want to look at on the phone, but that's a
separate story.)

Could we please have a means to tie a signature based on the from

Such a feature already exists:

Re: [MlMt] installing on 2nd computer

2016-05-14 Thread Gary Hull
I think you can just install it and set it up with all the same settings
and the same accounts. Your mail is not on your first computer (other
than as copies). It's on the IMAP servers at your mail ISPs. If you
install another copy of MailMate, it will download all the mail from the
IMAP ISPs. It will not have any custom smart mailboxes that you made,
unless you recreate them.

A simple copy should work, but I think it's best if you only copy the
settings and not the message cache. To do this you simply need the
`.plist` files in this folder:

~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/

In this case you might also want to copy the preferences file
(essentially the settings in the Preferences pane and any hidden
preferences you might have enabled):

~/Library/Application Support/Preferences/com.freron.MailMate.plist

Ok, I still think it's related to the mailbox issue (failed mailboxes
after moving a hierarchy). I've written you off list about that.

You have to enable an HTML alternative for a signature and then insert
an `img` tag (in the Signatures preferences pane). It must reference a
server located image though.

• is there an iOS mail app which can synchronize mailmate tags ?

It's based on IMAP keywords. In other words you need an app with support
for that. I don't really know if any of the clients can do that. (I only
have an iOS 6 device myself...)

• is there a setting where external references are not blocked (so
the email can auttautomaticaly be fully downloaded) ?

Image blocking is controlled in the Security preferences pane. Note that
allowing images to be fetched then you also allow others to track if and
when you open an email.

thanks a lot for your help, (Mailmate is amazing, congrat).

Thanks!
