MI SUM : X,Y - Regions

1999-10-05 Thread Jure Ravnik

Dear Listers,

my problem was : My data is

region(attrib), x1,y1,x2,y2,x3,y3,x4,y4

I wanted to create regions by connecting points 1-2,2-3,3-4,4-1.

Solutions :

1) If you have Mapbasic - it should be no problem.
2) If you don't have mapbasic :

- export a sample region in MIF and edit MIF with a text editor.
- Use the cre8quad.mbx written by David M Haycraft
  ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) which works great.

Thanks David.

MI Map Basic

1999-10-05 Thread Cognitor

Dear Friends
I need a help for the following.
a) Suppose I have a map and within it I have a retangle with a physical
dimension of 1 km per 2 km. Let's call two neighbor sides of this retangle as
axis X and axis Y
b) Suppose I have in the inner part ofthe retangle a movable point
which can walk each 100 meters .
c) Suppose that at a certain position of the point its distance to the four
sides of the retangle are X1, X2, Y1and Y2
d) I want to do a routine that makes the internal point to "walk" to all
positions inside the retangle and in each one it calculate the function Z= X1 +
2xX2 + 3xY1 + 4xY2

To do this I believe I have to program a routine in a program like
MapBasic.

My questions are yhe following:
1) Is there another way to do what I am mentioning?
2) Is there another (free) software like mapBasic that we can use to
work with MaPInfo?
3) Where to buy the MapBasic?

I thank you in advance and please include me in the list for regular
discussions

Hi,

I received many emails about this problem and everyone is giving the
same solution. So for those that do not know, in the MapBasic window
you would type the following statement.

the quality and support of the general group is great.

Does this oppertunity which we have to learn and discuss problems with

I am talking about personal email and advertising in particular.

Mapinfo-l is on probation. I enjoy reading and trying to help but I don't

Re: MI reducing spatial coverage

1999-10-05 Thread jchgis

You should save a copy of your table with bounds set. Export to Mid/Mif format, open
the .mif file in text editor, and edit the
coordsys line (see mapinfo help on setting bounds for projection systems).
Hope that helps.
Sincerely,
Sonya

How can define a spatial boundary to reduce the coverage?

I've clipped the area using region but all the data is still there, it seems that
clipping is merely cosmetic.
I've tried selecting using a rectangular marquee however this dosen't work as some
objects overlap the desired boundary edge.
I've tried redistricting but failed, because of too many districts in a table.

 Any advice would be appreciated++.

Hi All,

I am using the split function to split school district values into
municipality values. It works except I have to do it one school district at
a time or I get an error: "An error occurred overlaying the objects." I
have done some experimenting and it looks as though the data sill splits
even though I am getting this error. However, I am reluctant to just
assume this without knowing the details of the error. Thanks for any

MI MB: layout window behavior when changing printer driver in MB 3.51

1999-10-05 Thread Mark McMillan

Hello,

I am having a problem with the layout window behavior when the printer
changes.

I have an application using mi runtime 3.51 and mb 3.51 and vb.
One peice of the application allows the user creates a layout window and
sets a few frames on it which the user can then change/edit/print. once
done, the window is dismissed.

if the current printer is then changed through the MI printer setup dialog
and the user creates another layout window and I place the frames on it the
layout "gray area" (behind the white area)is resized either significantly
bigger or smaller. I am assuming the gray area is set by MI querying the
printer driver. in mapinfo 3.51 the layouts correctly recognize the printer
change and correctly size the layout "gray area".

does anyone know if this is a limitation/bug in 3.51 or am I missing a
method to force MI Runtime 3.51 to requery/adjust its layout settings. I
have tried all the layout and coordsys calls/settings.

thanks.

MI RE: point object to rectangle with update command

1999-10-05 Thread Robert Crossley

There is a way that you can use the update command, but it still needs mapbasic.

If you set up a function that accepts a point object object returns a rectangle
object,

ie
Update Table Set Obj = makeRect(obj)
Function makeRect(BYVAL Pointobj As Object) As OBJECT
Dim myObj As Object
Create Rect Into myObj
((CentoidX(PointObj)-GridSpace/2), (CentoidY(PointObj)-GridSpace/2)),
((CentoidX(PointObj)+GridSpace/2), (CentoidY(PointObj)+GridSpace/2)),
End Function

It only works in MapBasic, but works about as fast as normal update commands.

Robert.

As I already said in my question, this command can not be used together
with the update command. This command is simular to the Create Circle
command, which is different to the CreateCircle() function. This can only
be used with the alter command, going through the table record for record,
and then it will take to much time.

Please check more one help of MapBasic. There is function, which you are
 looking for.
 The syntax is:
 Create Rect [ Into { Window window_id | Variable var_name } ]
  ( x1, y1) ( x2, y2)
  [ Pen . . . ]
  [ Brush . . . ]

 Stefan

  Hi all,

Last week I had a question how I could change a set of points which are
situated in a regular grid into a polygon. I came to the conclusion that
probably the easiest way is to change the points into squares, so that
 they
fit exactly to each other, and then combine them into one polygon.

For this I can use the alter object command to change the object for
 every
point into a rectangle, but with the alter object every record will be
changed one by one, which is much too slow, as I might have more then
 one
  million records.
In the mapbasic help they recommand to use the Update command, where a
complete selection is changed. To change the object, they give the
 example:
  Update "selection"
  set object = CreatePoint(CentroidX(obj),CentroidY(obj))

This brings me to the next question: If I want to use the update command
 to
change the object, and I want to change the object into a rectangle, how
 can
I do that? It seems to me that one can only use CreatePoint(),
CreateCircle(), CreateLine() and CreateText(). Why isn't there a
  CreateRect() function?
(There is a Create rect command, but it seems that I can not use that
  together with the update command?)

Is there somebody who can help me with this, as the alter object command
 is
really not wotkable. (It would take some hours when you have a fast pc,
 with
a slow pc I really don't want to try this...)

  Thanks, Carla

MI re: GIS contribution in RF/CDMA

1999-10-05 Thread ISSA, OTHMAN

If any of the honourable members in this list had done any research or
had any info. about RF/CDMA and GIS applications/approaches. I will
appreciate if you share that info. with me. I understand that
applications like DeciBel and Vertical Mapper can be used for RF
propagation analysis and possibly the later version of Northwood sw
application called "Virtual Frontier"???

I will much appreciate any info.

What I need to know is how GIS can help?
What capabilities are available in MapInfo/MapInfo add-ons or other
softwares?

I have to prepare a one page briefing for my peers tomorrow and will
appreciate any help from you.

Thank you,
