[bug #18766] Not re-sorted at panel swap
Follow-up Comment #2, bug #18766 (project mc): Okay, now I understand the design. But then IMHO the right behaviour would be to re-sort the panels at swap, so that mc is consistent with itself (a ^R doesn't change anything), and ^U is usable not only to very quickly show some other file attributes but also to very quickly change to a different sorting method. ___ Reply to this item at: http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?18766 ___ Message sent via/by Savannah http://savannah.gnu.org/ ___ Mc-devel mailing list http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/mc-devel
[bug #18766] Not re-sorted at panel swap
Follow-up Comment #1, bug #18766 (project mc): Uhm, well.. It seems this behaviour is by design: [...] Tue Aug 29 14:33:16 1995 Jakub Jelinek * layout.c (swap_panels): Fixed. Now it should work fine and if there are both view_listings, then it just swappes their content (and not formats etc.), so that you may have one format in the left and a different one in the right panel and if you want to see some things that are in the left for a file on the right, you just C-u. [...] And also from the swap_panels() in layout.c: /* Change everything except format/sort/panel_name etc. */ As I understand it the idea is to have a super-fast way to view some file attributes which are not displayed in the other view but are displayed in the current panel view. I noticed that this function is not documented very well - IMO the documentation is not clear on what this command's purpose is :) ___ Reply to this item at: http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?18766 ___ Message sent via/by Savannah http://savannah.gnu.org/ ___ Mc-devel mailing list http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/mc-devel
[bug #18766] Not re-sorted at panel swap
URL: http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?18766 Summary: Not re-sorted at panel swap Project: GNU Midnight Commander Submitted by: egmont Submitted on: Friday 01/12/2007 at 14:40 Category: None Severity: 3 - Normal Status: None Privacy: Public Assigned to: None Open/Closed: Open Discussion Lock: Any Release: current (CVS or snapshot) Operating System: GNU/Linux ___ Details: If you use different sort orders on the two panels and press ^U to swap the panels, the file lists are not updated. E.g. left panel is set to sort by name, right panel is set to sort by date. Swap the two panels, the left one will have the entries sorted by date, and the right one will list them alphabetically. However, the sort settings of these two panels are not swapped. Once you press ^R, that panel is re-sorted according to the current rules. I think that either the panels should be automatically re-sorted when swapping, or maybe the config of the two panels should be swapped too (but I don't really like this latter idea). ___ Reply to this item at: http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?18766 ___ Message sent via/by Savannah http://savannah.gnu.org/ ___ Mc-devel mailing list http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/mc-devel
