Re: [MBZ] '87 190D blinker and blower problems

2006-05-16 Thread Daniel Konow
Marshall, Zoltan and Jim et al
Thanks for your input. I took the hazard switch out and apart. I used verv fine
grid sandpaper to clean and smoothen the contacts. However, the hazard still
works fine, the blinker still does not. High beam and whiper are fine too.
Any suggestions how to get the blinker back on track?

with my OM617.912 in my Gwagon - There is light ticking noise emanating

cyl fires ) . When loosening one fuel line at a time it appears that #2
cyl is not contributing much ( speed drop and engine note does not
change much ) however when I did a compression test results ( engine hot
) are as follows - #1 is very low at 9 bar and all others are 16 - 18
bar. Oil consumption is in spec at 1 l/1000km.

The compression test indicates that there is an issue with Cyl # 1 yes
the fuel line removal test indicates #2 is faulty. Engine starts easily
when cold , no so well when hot without glowing ( 3 -4 engine
revolutions before is starts )

Any ideas what could be going on? Could there be a crack between #1 and
#2 cyl ?

Peter,

Hard starting when hot was the signal on a couple of my diesels that the
ring sealing was gone. Your low compression readings are just barely
acceptable
on 3 cylinders and the #1 is just plain bad. Mine would start cold fairly
well but just as you describe, very hard to start hot, and required glowing,
too. Don't go anywhere without a good spare battery!

Yea, those inpections are nice, but I would take them with a grain of
salt. Their job is to find thing wrong, so of course they are going to
find things wrong with an old house. Just dont take everything too
serious. It would be about like taking a 240D down to the dealership to
have them tell you want is wrong with it before you buy it.

You get the idea,

[MBZ] 190D blinker and blower problems

2006-05-14 Thread Daniel Konow

First of all thanks to everyone helping with our B2 piston problem on our ‘81
300SD the other day. The fix was fairly easy but the gasket that holds the
bushing in place. That’s a real bitch to get out without scratching the
surface!!
However, our ‘87 190D 2.5 5 cylinder is giving us some issues now. Please let
me try to describe the symptoms of the two mayor problems:

Issues with the blower: Getting in the car, turning the key and glowing
the diesel, the fan comes on and blows. Then, turning the key further to
get the starter going (and actually starting the engine) the blower goes
off and usually stays off all the time. Except sometimes, when it comes on
for a split second to blow hard and turn off again. This tends to happen
more likely in the wintertime (when this feature is quite needed). In the
dry season, it sometimes stays on longer. But still ..
Issues with the blinker: First I want to mention that you cannot hear
the blinker relay at all – when they actually work (unlike our 300SD).
Then sometimes, only the right side works and the left not at all - and
right now nothing works - no blinker what so ever. Sometimes on a very
rare but lucky day, the blinker actually works - next day: nada...

I changed the multifunction relay at the very end of the fusebox with a used
one from PYP but the symptoms persists to be annoying (especially the blinker)
A new multirelay is about 150 bucks as is the new blinker/ multifunction
switch.
Hope anyone has some knowledge about these 190D electrical stuff and can
help us out.
  Thanks all
  Daniel

[MBZ] B2 Piston repair? --- Transmission failing

2006-03-25 Thread Daniel Konow
Hello List
I send the follwing Email earlier to a different list and got a kind answer
from Larry T. who has a good guess about the problem my 81 300SD is facing. He
suggested to join this list and bother you guys with my tech problem.. So here
we are. Any reply is greatly appreciated

So my good old 81 300SD decided to give us serious trouble: Going
shopping and entering the parking lot, we had to stop and then, still
in D for drive the tranny decided that forward is no more. So, the
tranny clicks still, when I put in in D, L or S but nothing happend
except the engine revs up. It wants to go reverse though, no problem
this way However now it sits in the rain on the paking lot and
won't move. The tranny recently got a new filter and fluid and it ran much
smoother after that. and now.
Any ideas what went wrong? Anybody had the same experience and what
the heck can I do about it.
Thanks for all answeres
Daniel
