[MBZ] 260E Injection

2008-04-10 Thread Frederick W Moir
Calling all gurus, calling all gurus.
Patient:- '89 260E.
Problem:- starts up fine and runs well. At about 40C the throttle
starts to be unresponsive at more than 1/4 and when warmed up, 95C, runs OK.
If the car is then stopped for approx. 1/2 to 1 hour, on re-start the
car will start to stumble for about 15-20 seconds and will not
accelerate, then almost as if a switch was closed the car then accel. normally.
My tired old brain can only come up with a couple of ideas.
1. The cold start injector is activated then shuts off.
2. there are one or more injectors dribbling fuel after the car is shut off.
Any thoughts?

Re: [MBZ] 260E Injection

2008-04-10 Thread Peter Frederick

Well, now. First, check the OVP, if it's out, it will run funny.
Check the idle mixture, and also (first) for vacuum leaks --we just
replaced the idle control valve hoses and the boot between the air
meter horn and the throttle body.

Squirt some brake parts cleaner over the idle control valve hoses and
the boot -- if the idle changes, replace them, and replace the
injector seals AND the o-rings on the sleeve the injector fits in --
they all are bad if any are bad. Vacuum leaks will drive you nuts on
that car, as the computer controller won't set the check engine light
when the mixture goes out of control.

If you have occasional stalling when coming to a stop and/or throttle
lag, suspect a serious vacuum leak.

The warm start problem is quite likely a leaking accumulator (will
also cause hard starts in really hot weather with the engine hot) --
you need to have the pressure checked, it should be 3 bar with the
pump on and something like 2 bar indefinitely with the pump off.

Peter

2008-04-10 Thread mak
Replace the Fuel accumulator .A lot of strange symptoms will be gone
including hot start stumbles.
Check for vacuum leaks as Peter as suggested.

Finally suggest Check and replace the throttle position sensor on the
front of the fuel unit.
