I don't know what the conversion from AU $ to US $ is, but I'm fairly
certain that AU $1,000,000 is a fair piece of change.

Hendrik --

Speaking of AMG ...

I live in a small rural Iowa town in the midst of the agricultural region (
http://www.jeffersoniowa.com/). There is a law firm across the street from
my office and we occasionally see an M-Class Benz or a Lexus SUV parked
there, driven in from the big city by an attorney. We do have a late
model E320 and a G-class here in town but both are owned by an old fart
retired farmer and his wife. I have a 240D and our auditor drives a 10 year
old (?) C-class gasser. That is it for our local Benz community.

Last Thursday afternoon, I looked out our office window and saw what I think
was a late 70s or early 80s S-Class (might have been an E-Class, couldn't
swear in a court of law).

A very nice bronze-brown in color. Had this wee tit of a spoiler on the back
of the trunk. Custom wheels (but very nice, discrete sort of custom wheels)
on what seemed to be factory size tires. I did not notice any sort of
spoiler in the front but I didn't have a good look at the front from my
angle.

I wandered across the road to see what manner of beast this might be. The
trunk emblem was not much help, for it said only AMG.

The more I looked at the car the more it looked to deserve a speeding ticket
just sitting there parked. It was either a W124 or a W126 -- I don't have
enough experience to tell between the two unless I have a tape measure.

I was in absolute lust.

I asked our administrative assistant to watch to see who was driving it and
what building he left. As luck would have it, the car disappeared while she
took a run to the loo. I went to the law office to ask who might own the car
and they gave me blank stares -- no one had been in and out all morning. The
only other shop there is a barber. Perhaps someone popped in from out of
town for a haircut?
