[mou-net] GWFG~Rice County
Hi everyone, It's like we went back in time one week! There were eleven Greater White-fronted Geese at Wells Lake this morning. There were also a dozen Redheads and a single female Northern Shoveler. Still present were several Lesser Scaup, a pair of Ruddy Ducks and a single Gadwall, not to mentions group of coots. I plan on re-checking there later this afternoon. Good birding! [mou-net] Bald Eagle on Osprey nest
Yesterday I observed a nearly adult (some dark still on head) sitting on what has been an Osprey nest at Coon Rapids Dam (west side). Park personnel informed me an immature eagle had been seen on that nest earlier in the day. Park personnel (east side) also informed me a Northern shrike was singing on the east side yesterday morning. I was unable to re-find the bird. Thomas P. [mou-net] Screech owl pellets
I had a screech owl here for over a month and the wood duck box it was staying in is littered with pellets. Most of them look like mouse fur, but there are some feathers in the box too. Is there anybody interested in collecting these? I haven't seen the owl since I returned from vacation on Wednesday, but it returned just before I left and may still come back. This is your reminder that Birds and Beers is on March 5th at 6pm until 9 or 10, at the Wilde Roast in Riverplace in Mpls. http://wilderoastcafe.com/ Monday is burger night and happy hour is until 6:30! Birds and Beers is an informal gathering of birders of all abilities-if you're interested in birds, you're invited. You can meet other birders-maybe find a carpool buddy, ask about where to find target birds, share cool research projects you might be working on, ask a bird feeding question, share life lists, share some digiscoping tips, promote your blog-the sky is the limit. It's low key and it's fun. http://www.birdchick.com/wp/birds-and-beers/ Curt Rawn Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html
