http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/date-and-time-functions.html#function_date-format
 can give you that in a single string; on the same page there's other stuff 
that allows you do do it into separate fields if you prefer. 

I sometimes feel the documentation is the best part about MySQL :-p
