[mythtv-users] uc: Strange DVB Kernel Signal loss

2006-01-30 Thread Barker Thomas

Hi I have been running FC3 quite stabily for a long time,
this weekend I decide it wont be hard to start again and use FC4 this time
instead.

Oh how wrong am i! I have FC4 all up and running to the
stage that FC3 once was. However I have noticed this strangeness:

In FC3 I was
using kernel 2.6.11.x, my dvb card
in myth would do a full scan with no multiplex prior listed and pick up all
channels

In FC4 using
kernel 2.6.14, my dvb card wont do
a full scan, it fails tuning, if I add multiplexs manually and scan those (ie
ones from FC3 db) then it will pick up most channels but fails to tune 2
multiplexs.

In FC4 if I boot
using kernel 2.6.11, I can now
tune these 2 multiplexs as well. Eh?

Is it me or is there a weird issue in the newer kernels
relating to DVB. I tried kernel 2.6.15 (from fc4 testing) and I also tried
compiling CVS DVB/V4L modules against 2.6.14. none of this worked either.

How come I am loosing signal by changing kernels?

Now I would just revert back to using 2.6.11, but support
packages for this kernel are long gone, ie nvidia-kmdl and I don't want
to use the nvidia installer.

Does anyone have any ideas?

BTW my system is:

2600+ sempron

XCube

½ gig ram

Nova-T SAA7xxx

Thanks

Tom

[mythtv-users] UC: Recording fine but watching live tv dies

2005-11-03 Thread Barker Thomas

Does anyone have any idea why when I watch live tv it wont
tune and my frontend dies, but when I tell it to record the same program and I watch
the recording all works fine?

It never used to be like this?

[mythtv-users] FC3-FC4 using apt

2005-07-14 Thread Barker Thomas

I know this is off topic but:

Is it possible to upgrade my FC3-FC4 without a
reinstall. Can I just change sources.list to point to fc4 packages over fc3? I
am using a couple of non standard repositories, axels and ayo I think? I had a
quick look last night but did not come to any conclusions

Any suggestions welcome.

RE: [mythtv-users] Perplexing one - On screens with lots of bl ack playback judder s

2005-07-06 Thread Barker Thomas

I did have use video as timebase, and assumed that to be my problem , so I
unchecked it. But I still get the problem.

As far as I am aware though, I tried playing the same file on a remote
frontend connected to the juddery machine (backend) and did not get the same
problem.. I will have to verify that though.

It really is a strange one..

Ok, When I am watching TV be it live or recorded and the scene changes to
a
mostly black scene, the video and audio judder. It is only a blackish
scene
 which does this.. Normally during advert breaks;

 My system:
Latest svn, (used to do it on 0.18 too)
Latest nvidia drivers, complete removal and reinstall just to make sure
 (nforce 2, ie mx4)
 FC3
 Sempron 2600
 Nova-T uk dvb

Spdif reroute of all sound to an optical decoder
AC3 passthrough is not checked nor is sync with audio

I'm glad it's not just me, yes I see this too. This is also with UK
DVB (TS mode), in fact i've only seen it for one program (Nip Tuck)
but it does for every episode at all 'fades to black' for advert
breaks plus other dark scenes.

One thing I haven't checked that may be of interest is whether mplayer
displays this behaviour or not. Thomas, just out of interest, do you
have 'use video as timebase' checked or not? This setting could be
related and is probably worth testing.

I can probably supply a short mpeg file that demonstrates this
behaviour if required.

grip seems to work fine (both lookups and rip/encoding)

Yet myth either fails to lookup an comes up with unknown artist or
just exits and ejects the cd - going back to the Import CD page.

Any ideas?

[mythtv-users] transcode settings bug?

2005-05-06 Thread Barker Thomas

Hi I have setup mythtv many times before and had transcode
working nicely. However this time I set it all all and when I transcode I get
fairly big files. I am using 0.18 release.

I have changed the low and high quality settings in h/w
encoders (I have a nova-t dvb card). I only changed the vid to default mpeg4
but changed bitrate to 2000 for high and 800 for low and audio to mp3 32000 at
quality 7.

But when I encode a file for example

The bill, normal size 1.64G, before transcoding

After transcoding 1.4G in low? That's not much of a
change!

Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug ?

I have AC3 passthrough set if it makes any odds.

Any suggestions?

Hi folks

I have been workingon my Mythtv system for some weeks
and have made some mistakes but also a great deal of progress

But I am stumped on Mythmusic!!

I think I know how it should work but I would like
confirmation

CD open tray and insert CD

Select Import CD from menu (tray will accept CD)

Few seconds and menu will give way to options such as
quality, CD title, performer and genre

First question, should the above be automatically entered?

Lower down on that screen there is the track information or
rather in my case lack of, what I have is the correct number of tracks and what
would seem the play length

Next question; with the information for freedb entered in
.cdserverrc as http://uk.freedb.org
etc as gleaned from the freedbwebsite should all this information be
entered automatically?

I can rip the CD but it will not have any track info

This system is behind aFirewall but there is no
attempt to go out to the freedb website according to the Firewall logs

First time I have felt the need to ask for advice from this
forum folks!!!

The cube itself has onboard audio and geforce mx 4 etc..
After installing FC3 from scratch and and setting up ATRPMS and getting
mythtv-suite. A few configurations and a mysql source all is back to normal.
And so much faster and smoother than ever before.

I did try using XVMC acceleration for displaying live tv,
but disliked the fact things were in B/W and also it seemed very sketching,
kinda streaking with white lines, so I turned that off. CPU usage without XvMc
is laughable anyhow so makes no odds.

I must say im impressed with the dvd rip facility, wish you
could specify lower bit rates though.

One thing I wish we could sort out, is burning files to dvd.

I see mythburn and nuv2burn (or some similar name) made a
good start, but haven't got too far yet. Would be nice to see.

Many thanx

Tom

That's a very good point, I assumed UK DVB-T had AC3 encoded channels? Does
anyone know this? I have had no luck getting AC3 output from DVB-T. However
normal DVB-T audio does sound much better over digital, just cos!

As for getting AC3 working with mplayer it was just a matter of having alsa
for my snd card and doing mplayer -ac hwac3,

Ie try to use hardware ac3 passthrough and if not there use normal ie the ,
.

Thomas,

Which UK DVB channels are AC3 encoded currently? Whenever I've demuxed
recordings to burn to DVD, they've always come out as MP2 streams.
Having a Pundit-R system, one of the last things I have left to
configure is to run the sound through the SPDIF so I'd be interested
in your responses.

As I'll also be restoring the DVD drive into the system this week
(after trying to hunts down mediamonitor oddness) which obviously will
give AC3 output from DVDs, I'll be hoping to get everything eventually
working over the SPDIF which may involve cutting a hole in to front
door of the Pundit-R (great design having the SPDIF output not only on
the front of the system, but also behind a door?!?).

Cheers,
Nick

[mythtv-users] uc: spdif anyone?

2005-04-20 Thread Barker Thomas

Does anyone use spdif digital audio with AC3 over DVB or am I
flogging a dead horse?

Hi I have mythtv 0.18 compiled with alsa, I have alsa
correctly using spdif.

I have a dvb-t setup in the uk, nova-t so should be fine for
AC3 encoded channels.

For example mplayer ac3test.avi
-ac hwac3 -vo null switches my external amp to DD and all sounds
great.

I have enabled my mythtv audio setup to pass AC3 through and
have set the device to ALSA:iec958 and I get sound through my amp now over
coaxial, But my amp does not switch to DD.

Now my question, is ALSA:iec958 the correct device for a via
epia m10k? if so how do I make mythtv output AC3 channels to my amp? Am I
Missing something here?

Please help!!

P.s. I have checked the forums and this is as far as I can
go information wise!

What do these drivers provide? Do they provide mpeg2 decoding on chip? Or is

Does it replace the need for viaxvmc?

Works fine for me. :)

I had a very quick look but the docs in the distribution seemed a bit poor
 and I haven't looked at

Which docs in particular? Perhaps either pointing out which bits are
bad and need improving or making the improvements would help?

Oops, I've just realised you mean VIA's new open source Unichrome
driver release as opposed to the new Unichrome open source driver
release.

Doh.
Must pay attention, must pay attention.

This is going to get confusing, VIA Open Source Unichrome driver vs
Open Source Unichrome VIA driver

Ho hum.

Anyway, in summary, no there's no point trying to use the VIA driver
with myth since the VIA driver only provides their proprietary ddmpeg
API.

Hi does anyone know why this is:

When I click enter on the keyboard or ok on the remote

depressed, ie does not click to progress.

Now this used to work, the only thing I have probably
changed is the distribution packages, ie FC3 apt-get update and upgrade, I am
using the default apt sources list.

Any ideas? This one is bugging me?

I am thinking its either lirc or xorg, which have both been
upgraded since it used to work.

I am using CVS mythtv with viaXvMC support compiled in,
Latest cvs version of DRI module via.ko,
Latest cvs version of via_drv.o
Latest cvs version of libviaXvMC.*

And to be fair, my backend is stable enough, but the frontend is just not
stable. More so recently, but has always been so. I seemed to have best
results before viaXVMC was even introduced and it was libdd(I think? Was
ages ago!).

I am going to try older cvs versions later tonight and test them, but I
would love some feedback from other users.

Whats your setup and how well does it work? (ie driver versions or cvs
dates, mythtv versions, board) - unichrome only please.

Many thanx, Tom
