Re: [newbie] Intel i810 video and Mandrake 7.0
I have a lot of problems to compile i82810 chipset I have a SY 6 WIM/L SOYO motherboard with on board video card. I can not run X Server From: root [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [newbie] Intel i810 video and Mandrake 7.0 Date: Tue, 04 Apr 2000 20:38:42 -0500 AlrightI need a little more help :) I am running linux Mandrake 7.0 on a box that has the intel i810 graphics chipset built into the board. (Note: I would NEVER purchase a mobo with anything like this built in for myself, but this is my box at work, and I didn't have a choice in that ;) ) Now, the problem is: I can't get the thing to work properly. I've gone to the intel website and gotten the two .rpm's needed for the install, and I've followed the intallation directions as far as I could. Here is where I get hung up. The directions call for me to edit the XF86Config file, to add in the intel chipset. I have done this, and rebooted, only to have the system hang upon restarting the Xserver. I gives me a message about the XF86Config file, and it not recognizing some setting with "My Video Card". Now I have checked and re-checked the XF86Config for errors in my editing, but everything was done just as the directions called for. Does anyone have any insight as to the problem? Have any of you experienced this yourself? Any soulutions whatsoever? Thanks in advance! Travis P.S. - Thank you to those that helped out with the network card (3c905b) problem, I now have that resolved! __ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

I installed v4 without drama but, no matter what I do, I cannot get a normal mouse pointer; rather, I have the big white square that has featured prominently on the newbie list. I have read the archives and tried (I think correctly) the Options "sw_cursor", "noaccel" and "no_bitblt" as appropriate. I have tried to configure a serial IntelliMouse and a conventional 3-button mouse with the same unhappy result. I have reverted to the previous XFree86(3.3.6?) that ships with LM7.0 without problems and have the normal pointer back. Does this suggest a fault in the "sis" driver in v4 rather than a fault in the SiS chip? Then again, some people are having problems with the earlier XFree86, but it seems strange that it will work in my setup but not with v4. I have an Aopen PA50 AGP card (not flash, I know, and I wish I hadn't bought it). Has anyone any ideas to help me run v4 other than "buy a better card"? Why would you want to run in 8 bit mode, its horrible! Have you tried a generic 800*600 monitor, or if it is multisync, a generic 800*600 multisync monitor? Also 60hz is a frequency that most if not all monitors can run at. It may not be the easiest on the eye, but it almost always works and also prolongs the life of your monitor too :-) I have seen people set their monitors at ridiculously high frequency just because people say that it is better, well it IS better, especially for the manufacturers of Monitors, they get to sell new ones after yours carks it :-(.. Rant mode off :-) Try as I suggested, and if it works, let all of us know, it may help others.. Cheers: Mike. __ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

Re: [newbie] Mandrake 7.0 - Installation screams 'error not enough space in partition /
You must format this partition. From: kiriakos [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [newbie] Mandrake 7.0 - Installation screams 'error not enough space in partition/" Date: Sat, 18 Mar 2000 03:22:34 +0200 Hello all, I just got a Mandrake 7.0 distribution from a computer magazine. It all goes well up to the point that it asks me for the packages I want to install. I had the disk auto-allocated, which gives me around 1409 Megs for the / partition. I chose "expert" installation (I'm not an expert, just a freak, hehe) and development type. After that point, the installation gives me an error saying more or less that the packages I chose are 1180 Megs in size and there's no space for all of them (like 1180 1409?) but I could go on anyway, just I won't get all packages installed. I OK this, to go on, and then I get a menu of package choices (Server, Development, Games, etc.) I choose the absolute minimum, which is 1180 Megs, and when I OK this too, I get an error that the .rpms could not be installed because of no space in / partition. This is weird cause I restarted after I partitioned, so there shouldn't be a problem for the installation to see the allocated space. Any ideas? Thanks in advance GG __ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
