[newbie] Typing in different language
I have 10.1 official on an AMD k6-2 350 running KDE 3.6 . In AbiWord I want to be able to type documents in French Canadian with accents etc. My default language is US-en. How do I get the accents? -- --- Roger Bird Burlington, Ontario [EMAIL PROTECTED] Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Re: [newbie] amd chip
I also currently have a K6-2 350 with 96mb. How much of an increase would I gain putting in a K6-2 500? Roger mark willenbring wrote: I thought it was a AMD 350 or greater. It had a problem in Win 95 because the chip was too fast for the OS - image that! 98 does not have this problem. Also just buy a nice fan to protect your chip and to make it run better. The faster the chip the hotter it runs. --- "Pittman, Merle" [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: This may be a little off topic, but I thought I'd ask anyway. I have been given an AMD K62 333MHz and MB by a friend. Has anyone had any problems with these CPU's. I have heard rumors about them overheating and having problems (especially with win98). can anyone confirm this, or do you have comments of your own? Thanks. MDP __ Do You Yahoo!? Re: [newbie] Garbled time when trying to invoke at command
It is working now. Thanks. It was just a matter of syntax. Roger "Stephen F. Bosch" wrote: Roger Bird wrote: I tried to do an "at" command but the only response I get is "Garbled time". I think trying to delete an "at" job, I screwed something up. *chuckles* That's what at says when you don't enter the time correctly =) (or forget to enter the time) Check the man pages for proper syntax. -Stephen- -- Roger Bird [EMAIL PROTECTED] Senior Accountant i4i 116 Spadina Ave., 5th Floor Toronto, Ontario M5V 2K6 ph 416.504.0141 Ext 206 fx 416.504.1785 http://www.i4i.com

My machine had been running perfectly-sound, internet, x-windows. I wanted to make it more secure since I am on cable @home. After doing some reading I went into startup services in x (as root of course) and must have shut off one or two of the wrong services. Now my machine boots but hangs before it reaches the graphical login. I know that I stopped httpd, and xfs and ypbind (I think it is called), I can't remember what else. So, two questions... 1) What command at the lilo "Boot" prompt should I use to boot into text mode? 2) What services should definitely be active (my machine is not a server, just a home workstation hooked to the internet) 3) Where would I turn these services back on? I do know of /etc/inetd.conf but are all the services there? Please help. I promise to be more careful next time (ie. back up vital config files) Thanks Roger -- Roger Bird [EMAIL PROTECTED] Toronto, Ontario Thanks again, group! This mail list is super! Thank you very much, Eunice. That worked perfectly! Everything runs like a dream! Roger PS. Mandrake rocks! The easiest way I found to correct this, was to pop the CD back in, go through the installation process again and do an Upgrade, instead of an install (make sure that you've still selected the expert mode and either normal or development for the type of install). It won't change any of your partitions, but it will allow you to add more packages. When you get to that stage, just uncheck each (+) to see what's there, and select which packages you want/need. Xconfigurator, xconf, startx, ... none of this works (yes I ran them as root) So now I have just regular text mode. I need to get X working. What is the easiest way to do this? I want to use KDE. On a previous install, x worked fine and installed all the great icons in KDE. The only problem was my nic was not being detected, so I did a re-install. Not the nic is fine, @home is fine, but X does not work. Please help. Thank you. Roger -- Roger Bird [EMAIL PROTECTED] Toronto, Ontario

[newbie] Mandrake and @home cable
I finally got linux to recognize my nic but I need help with configuring it to access the cable modem. I have tried various settings in netcfg and netconfig. Should I be running dhcp? Should I take out all the settings and start from scratch? The nic works fine on my win98 drive and accesses @home just fine. HELP!! Thank you Roger Bird Toronto, Ontario PS. What a great install program!
