I had a similar problem with my BJC-5000. I think it has to do with the
printer. When I connected my HP Officejet, it printed like a champ. I
rebooted to DOS and tried to print from the DOS prompt and nothing came out.
My guess on the 5000 is that it is a win printer- similar to a win modem.
The control software resides in Windoze not on the printer so it will not
print from any OS other than Windoze.
Try to dump something to the printer from dos (not a dos box under Windoze).
If this works, there may be something wrong in Linux, if it doesn't, it's a
printer issue.
Anyone want to buy a used BJC-5000?

Try connecting just the printer and see if you can print. In KDE, open
a console window and type "printtool" (without quotes). Try using
printtool to reconfigure the printer and print test pages.
