[NTG-context] simpleslides - no macros found errors

2010-01-20 Thread Himanshu B. Dave
I am a new user of simpleslides.
Linux 2.6.21 kernel, Slackware 12.0, teTeX
installed latest version of t-simpleslides via t-simpleslides.zip in
/usr/share/texmf tree
Executed:   mktexlsr
confirmed: appearance of t-simpleslides.tex in /usr/share/texmf/ls-R
confirmed:  path via kpsewhich t-simpleslides.tex
copied: speaker_introduction-2min.tex to my HOME directory, and
tried to compile it. Got the following errors:

system : no macros found in module style=Boxed
system : macros of module font=Bookman already loaded

... ... ...
! Undefined control sequence.
l.29 \SlideTitle
 {Speaker's Name}
?

Incidentally, context system itself is running OK.

Am I missing something? Or, doing something silly?
Help requested. Thanks.

[NTG-context] When to migrate from MKII to MKIV?

2009-02-03 Thread Dave
Hi all,
I've been using ConTeXt for a few years and I'm curious about whether it is
worth migrating to MKIV (I've just re-read the mk.pdf document). Here are
the features I often use:

  - Postscript fonts... I have typescripts setup for the fonts I bought
(full versions of Utopia, Minion, Warnock, and a few compatible sans fonts).
 I believe I can get these as open-type as well if needed.
  - Bibliography via \usemodule[bib]
  - Chemistry via \usemodule[chemic]
  - Inclusion of PDF figures using an XML Figure database, i.e.
\usemodule[fig-base]
  - Equations (with the multiline and alignment macros) using Fourier/Utopia
including the bold math modifications in the MyWay document.
  - Tables (tabulate, natural, linetable)

The questions I have:
  1) Do all of the above work in MKIV?
  2) How much of a pain is it to switch to MKIV? Do I need to rework my
fonts/typescripts? Will all my current environments (setups, macros and
one-line definitions) work?
  3) Beyond speed and better font support, does it offer anything else to
me?

For the most part, I'm content with MKII and wonder if it is really worth
the effort to move to MKIV. Perhaps the sample is skewed, but after reading
the mailing list I get the impression that the current experimental/beta
MKIV has a number of bugs and is not particularly feature complete when
compared to MKII.

mojca.miklavec.li...@gmail.com wrote:

 If you neglect the bugs and problems, transition should be painless -

I recall that it took me a good week of work in the evenings to get my
regular and math typescripts to work correctly with MKII. I'm happy with
the PDF output of the papers/notes, lecture notes I write for work but I
will need to switch to OTF in the not-too distant future. My university has
a site license for various Adobe pro fonts but they are only being
distributed in OTF now. The ones I currently use were derived
from manipulating a set of multiple-masters a few years ago.

 Btw: math is a big mess at the moment; you can expect any kind of bugs
 related to maths with next beta version, but you can become a beta
 tester :)

I do physics/chemistry with a lot of equations so incomplete math support is
really a deal breaker for me. I recall there being issues with some aspects
of bibliography support and a lack of fonts when I last tried the Minimal
package. Again, deal breakers for me so I reverted to the ConTeXt included
in the 2008 version of texlive with a few bug-fixes from a more recent beta.

I think it would be very helpful to most ConTeXt 'users' if there were a
wiki page that spelled out the current status of MKIV exactly and listed
which features of MKII work, which are buggy, and which are work in
progress. Something a little more high-level than the release notes and
this mailing list ;)

Thank you to everyone who contribute here. I often find myself amazed at
the speed at which ConTeXt develops and very much look forward to the end of
font voodoo as promised by MKIV.

Re: [NTG-context] Bib module and prefix=+

2008-12-19 Thread Dave
For what it is worth, it fails using the latest 'minimals' installation. I
was under the impression that this patch would eventually make its way into
the main brach and the patch would no longer be required. It works with the
texlive-2008 basic install but I'm now without quite a few fixes which
breaks other things. Working references, however, are much more important
than the formatting/table bugs... I now remember why I never upgrade ConTeXt
by choice.
I'll try to post a reminder if I haven't heard anything from you by mid-Jan.

Thanks,
Dave

  Taco, do you have any ideas on why this is failing again?

 Probably that fix was patching an internal macro the handling of
 which has changed in the context core. Just a guess, though.

 I have no time today to delve into this, sorry. As I wrote to

[NTG-context] Adding whitespace equivalent to a -ve sign

2008-02-11 Thread Dave
Hi all,

I am trying to line up some equations on a page and I'd like to insert
some whitespace that has the same width as a -ve sign in an equation.
An example would be trying to ensure the cosine and sine and on the
first and second rows (second column) in the matrix below:

  \startpmatrix
% Row 1
\NC - \cos \theta_{\text{el}} \, \sin \theta_{\text{az}}
\NC \cos \theta_{\text{az}}
\NC \sin \theta_{\text{el}} \, \sin \theta_{\text{el}} \NR
% Row 2
\NC - \cos \theta_{\text{el}} \, \cos \theta_{\text{az}}
\NC - \sin \theta_{\text{az}}
\NC \sin \theta_{\text{el}} \, \cos \theta_{\text{el}} \NR
% Row 3
\NC - \sin \theta_{\text{el}}
\NC 0
\NC \cos \theta_{\text{el}} \NR

Any ideas?

[NTG-context] Combining eps figures into a single document

Hi all,

I am not sure if there is an easy way to do this with a generic
ConTeXt document but I thought I'd ask anyways. I have a folder full
of identically sized data plots saved as eps/pdf files and I was
wondering if there was a quick way to shrink and tile them into a
multi-page document so that I get 15 plots per page (5 rows x 3
colums)? I have scripts that generate these plots and I literally
have hundreds of them that I need to combine and print. Any ideas?

Hi David,

Peter gave you the first hint with the width-key in \framed and the \hbox.
I can give a better solution for your problem but you have to write the

put braces around \placelegend.

[NTG-context] problem using Bibtex

2003-08-26 Thread Dave Bailey

Hi---

Ive been trying to get an @InProceedings bibtex entry to
format.

The original entry looked like this:

@InProceedings {aapga,

 author = {Williams, Jeffery and Schaefer, Marv and Landoll, Douglas },

 title =  {Pretty good assurance},

 booktitle = {New Security
Paradigms Workshop},

 year =  {1995},

 publisher = {ACM Special Interest Group on Security, Audit,
and Control}

}

When bibtexed,
the authors appear in the .bbl file, but they do not appear in the references
list. The references list entry begins at (1995).

If I change the bibtex
entry to an Article, as follows, all the information appears in the reference
list.

@Article{aapga,

 author = {Williams,
Jeffery and Schaefer, Marv and Landoll,
Douglas },

 title =  {Pretty good assurance},

 journal = {New
Security Paradigms Workshop},

 year =  {1995},

 note = {ACM Special Interest Group on Security, Audit, and
Control}

}

Is there a problem with the InProceedings
entry type, or have I done something wrong?
