RE: Win 98
Title: Win 98 This is also an issue I've had on only two VLAN's of 8 on the network, W98 boxes. We have a class C, the mask changes from that class C 255.255.255.0 to class A 255.0.0.0 This happens willy nilly, no rhyme or reason to it that I can see thus far. I had thought it was remote users, when then come into the office their PPP adapter messes with the Ethernet? Not, there is now a desktop PC I have the same issue with. I've looked into my config on router, to make sure settings are the same for all VLAN's, etc... To resolve, winipcfg, release, renew and the subnet mask goes back to 255.255.255.0 I'm going to look into the suggestion of updating driver files for NICs. Any further suggestions? I have a NT4 DC server running DHCP/DNS/WINS. I am on a class B private subnet using the 10.52.x.x address range. I have a 98 machine that everytime it tries to renew its lease at the half-way point, it changes the subnet mask from a class B 255.255.0.0 to a class A 255.0.0.0. Once that happens, of course all it can do is access local machines and will not be able to get passed through my router for internet and corporate access. I have done everything short of reloading the system, which will get upgraded to 2000 soon. But I am curious if any of you guys have bumped into this, since it is only one machine? Please help! RE: Nimda - Thought we were protected
I don't know if Eeye put out a new tool since Friday, but I used a tool they had put out on my network, and ended up getting false positives from said tool. I spent hours checking into 19 workstations to find that all were safe and sound. It was scary, so don't count on everything you find out there. Desiree Herrmann Network Manager MasterLink Corp. We just had our developer machines, running NT2000 Server hit with Nimda. The strange thing is, we have Nimda protection in our email scanner, and all the security fixes MS said should be applied. SP2 is installed. The machines boot up, a log in screen displays, and they login. The Novell login script begins to run as normal ( we run mixed network, NT and Novell), then the login script box clears as normal, a blue screen appears as normal, and nothing further happens. Could this be a new strain? RE: Virus scanning on file servers
I also run Norton Corporate 7.5. Thus far I haven't had problems. I love the console, I can run Virus Sweeps right there. Been running Norton since 7.0, without issues. We are also currently running Finjan, which is a great tool to check for malicious code running, etc. Desiree Herrmann Network Manager MasterLink Corp.
