Re: [OT]: Script Editors

2010-03-31 Thread Micheal Espinola Jr
For source control, you could set up your own local repository, or even use
a free service like Google Code. It can help make your code secure,
portable, accessible, and version controllable over the long term with share
access if needed.

Google Code uses SVN on the back-end, which is what I would recommend (any
SVN-based implimentation) for any new source control implimentations (as
apposed to CSSC or the latter CVS).

Most programmers I know prefer SVN as the repository, and most recent
projects that has always been the collaborative preference chosen. For my
own personal code work, I use Google Code on the back-end, and TortoiseSVN
for Windows-client integration.

I wouldn't focus too much on code snippets. You can find code snippets
everywhere on the net. I would pay closer attention to code color-coding
and formatting (and customizations) in your chosen application. This is
what makes code functionality pop-out at you; which helps it be infinitely
easier to understand.

Slightly OT, but those of you who write scripts, whats your preferred
editor?

I'm using NotePad++ and VBSEdit at the moment for creating mainly
VBscripts, they both do the job, but looking for something with a bit
more.

Going to take a look at these

AdminScriptEditor http://www.adminscripteditor.com/

PrimalScript http://www.primaltools.com/products/info.asp?p=PrimalScript

They're not cheap, look to have a lot of features and I've got
provisional approval for the cost.

Just wondering what everyone else was using or other options to look at.

Got the PO raised for PrimalScript Studio 2009 yesterday, about 10 minutes
before we were informed that the company was taken over by administrators,
fun times ahead.

I wanted something with VBscript, PS and code snippets, the thing that won
over with PrimalScript was the integrated source control support.
It's the main area where I was lacking discipline, my idea of source
control was ctrl-c ctrl-v on the script file, on occasion.

Slightly OT, but those of you who write scripts, whats your preferred
editor?

I'm using NotePad++ and VBSEdit at the moment for creating mainly
VBscripts, they both do the job, but looking for something with a bit
more.

Going to take a look at these

AdminScriptEditor http://www.adminscripteditor.com/

PrimalScript http://www.primaltools.com/products/info.asp?p=PrimalScript

They're not cheap, look to have a lot of features and I've got provisional
approval for the cost.

Just wondering what everyone else was using or other options to look at.

I have both, but use ASE more than PrimalScript on a daily basis. The main
things I like about ASE are the ScriptForm Designer and the WMI Wizard.

Re: [OT]: Script Editors

2010-03-26 Thread Steven Peck
I have PrimalScript, I still use notepad++ a lot.  I also primarily
use PowerShell.

If you want a cross language one then PrimalScript is pretty good (I
think you can use it 30 days for free too). If just PowerShell only
then PowerShellPlus is awesome.

So a better question is, what is driving you to look for a better script tool?

Subject: [OT]: Script Editors

Slightly OT, but those of you who write scripts, whats your preferred editor?

I'm using NotePad++ and VBSEdit at the moment for creating mainly VBscripts,
they both do the job, but looking for something with a bit more.

Going to take a look at these

AdminScriptEditor http://www.adminscripteditor.com/

PrimalScript http://www.primaltools.com/products/info.asp?p=PrimalScript

They're not cheap, look to have a lot of features and I've got provisional
approval for the cost.

Just wondering what everyone else was using or other options to look at.
