2019




Highlights:




LEAST BITTERN

LESSER SCAUP

RING-NECKED DUCK

RED-HEADED WOODPECKER

CLAY-COLORED SPARROW

Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and and Montezuma Wetlands Complex 
(MWC)

   




     6/4: A PROTHONOTARY WARBLER was again found at the forested area on 
Armitage Road. 2 GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS were found on Carncross Road.

     6/5: The BLACK-NECKED STILT was again seen in the Main Pool . It was seen 
again on the 6th. and the 9th.

     6/7: A BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was seen at the Sandhill Crane Unit.

     6/8: 6 PROTHONOTARY WARBLERS and 24 CERULEAN WARBLERS were noted by 
birders canoeing around Howland Island. 2 BLACK TERNS were noted also. 4 
SANDHILL CRANES were seen along the Wildlife Drive.

     6/10: 5 BLACK TERNS were seen at the Visitor’s Center.







Onondaga county






     6/6: A LEAST BITTERN was again noted south of Potter Road at Three Rivers 
WMA north of Baldwinsville.

     6/9: An ORCHARD ORIOLE was seen in the open area above Green Lakes State 
Park.







Oswego County






     6/7: A pair of RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS is showing nesting activity at the 
north lookout area of Derby Hill.

     6/8: A WHIP-POOR-WILL was heard calling at O’brien Glenway near the Oswego 
Country Club in Oswego.

     6/10: ORCHARD ORIOLE, AMERICAN BITTERN and SORA were all noted on Peter 
Scott Road north of Phoenix.







Madison county






     Late staying LESSER SCAUP and RING-NECKED DUCK continue at Woodman Pond, 
last noted on 6/9: 







Oneida County






     6/7: A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was again seen on Lakeshore Road at the east 
end of Oneida Lake.

     6/6: A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW continues at the Sprong Farm Nature Sanctuary 
south of Clinton.

[nysbirds-l] Black-bellied Whistling-Duck - Nickerson Beach, Nassau Co

Shai Mitra and I are currently with a group of 10 whistling-ducks at Nickerson 
Beach. They were found here by Don Heitzmann and company yesterday evening. 
They are on the wet lawn at the western end of the park (in the same area as 
the stilt from earlier this spring).

[nysbirds-l] Black-bellied Whistling-Duck - Nickerson Beach, Nassau Co

Shai Mitra and I are currently with a group of 10 whistling-ducks at Nickerson 
Beach. They were found here by Don Heitzmann and company yesterday evening. 
They are on the wet lawn at the western end of the park (in the same area as
