[nysbirds-l] Jamaica Bay additions, Queens County
In addition to the species Andrew mentioned in his post (sans Piping Plover) Shane Blodgett and I observed an adult Gull-billed Tern feeding a recently fledged young which was still showing a pale gape, a banded Little Blue Heron, at least 6 White-rumped Sandpipers. The Gull-billed and Black Tern were mostly working the south end of the east pond up to the raunt and back, occasionally going farther north. I thought it worth mentioning that of the 1600 Semipalmated Sandpipers we counted there were small numbers of juveniles (under 50) where of the roughly 125 Least Sandpipers we counted the number of juveniles was closer to half. All in all a great morning to be out on the pond.
