[osol-discuss] What ever happened to Solaris New Boot for Sparc?
I remember hearing a long time about Sun was working on updating Solaris boot for Sparc to something similar to what they did for x86 (ie. grub based or like). Does this project exist? If so what is its status? This message posted from opensolaris.org ___ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org

If so what is its status? Yes, kinda. I think it's a requirement for ZFS boot on SPARC. It won't be grub based (there's little point in using grub as grub is really just a work around for the limitations of the BIOS) Casper ___ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org

If so what is its status? I don't know what the status of the project is, but from what I understand, new world boot is essential for having older Sun HW like the Ultra5 be able to ZFS boot, since updating the OBP is out of the question, at least from what I've been told. So to work around that, GRUB will be required. On SPARC. Can you imagine? Never tought I'd see the day.
