Ya. I just wanted to provide the specific URL to the (presumed)
BSE article you mentioned since it took me a couple of minutes
to dig it out, and I thought others interested would find it
convenient to just click, rather than search for it.

They would inch up the credibility scale if the articles they have were
independently

I don't think that the experts are telling anyone that Mad Cow Disease is
not transferrable to humans.  It causes death in humans and cannot be killed
by cooking at normal temperature.

Hoof and Mouth disease is not transferrable to humans and should not be
confused with the common human affliction Foot in Mouth disease.

It is the former that may destroy the livestock industry  in Europe and lead
to turning lots of folks into vegetarians.

We raise our own beef so I am not going to turn into a vegetarian.

Ruth,
Pleas be carefull with the pricing offerred. I understand the quality of home grown
beef and your price is lower than the chain supermarket in Atlanta.
Does the offer include the people in the South??? (transplanted Yankee)

It you want great corn feed beef (the reason for mad
cow is how they feed their livestock) visit the Omaha
Steaks web page.

The US should never have any of these problems. We
feed our cattle with grains such as corn. We should
not have a problem with hoof and mouth because we
vaccinate our cattle against such diseases.

Don't bet on it!

One of the largest faults in the country goes through Omaha, Ne heading
north to the edges of South Dakota, North Dakota, Iowa, & Minnesota! How
do I know? My house is built directly over the fault! Fortunately, it
isn't very active! but I do have an earthquake rider on my homeowners
insurance! I figured $20.00 a year over a lifetime is cheap protection for
the what if.:)

Actually we had our HP cluster crash today as well. First
one side went. Got that all back up and then the other side
went. Since I am in Gresham, OR we are blaming it on the earthquake.
Couldn't find a reason not to. So far management seems to
be buying it.

Hummm!! Must be a week for disasters. We've had a multi DB development box
crashing for the first 3 days of this week. Right now the HP rep is in
there
with his head inside the chassis & parts all over the place outside!! Sure
that
earthquake was in the NorthWest? Looks like splattered quite a bit over
here
too!! Thank God tomorrow's Friday! :-)

RE: eek!

2001-03-01 Thread Boivin, Patrice J

Last night on a game forum someone wrote that he was driving a truck
"between Microsoft buildings." He was at a traffic light, and he thought
"Is it ever windy! Look at those lights sway back and forth." He noticed
that the truck in front of him was swaying too, he thought it must have been
some wicked wind tunnel effect between the buildings.

Then he noticed that the buildings were swaying too and people were running
out of them, he finally realized what was going on.

: )

He didn't mention anything about the Microsoft buildings collapsing.

I was thinking - a seismologist on CBC said that "the big one" would
probably be centered off-shore, so not to worry about the effects of this
one. OK, if the "big one" is centered off-shore, all these measures
architects are taking in California to build quake-resistant buildings will
be for naught, it won't protect them from any tidal waves...

RE: eek!

2001-03-01 Thread O'Neill, Sean

Dennis,

So how are things post earth quake?. Did you need to invoke any of your DR
Plan?. If so, sharing your experience on this would be useful after the
dust settles =:-0

It's a hell of a wake up call to remind one why DR plans are important.

The earthquake made news here in Ireland along with the impending foot &
mouth disease crisis and even mentioned ahead of bad rail crash in England
across the Irish sea where lives were lost.

"I see the bad moon a risin'. I see trouble on the way."

True, nothing fell on my head with this one. I will admit that I no
longer am calling this one fun.
I ran home at lunch and found quite a bit of damage to the brick entryway.
Of course, no earthquake
insurance, talk about needing diasaster recovery! I need a bigger bank
balance!

Walt, were you in Fairbanks to go to school? I attending the university
there around that same time.

I'd say the fun quotient is inversely proportional to the number of things
that fall on your head.

At least that was my experience in Fairbanks in 1976 when an earthquake
occured there...

Yeah, I'm in Vancouver BC. Actually it wasn't nearly as bad here as what I
hear happened in Seattle.
